The Inauguration

Chapter 6

The howls of the creatures that lurk in the night echo in her room. She lays on the bed, her eyes drifting to the corners of the room, afraid of what might come out of the darkness when she’s not looking.

She felt suffocated and alone in the darkroom. Paranoia filled her veins as the darkness grew in her room. The moon did nothing to fill her room with light, the clouds hid the moon away mocking her so much that she felt unsettled in her room.

She hated how she felt, how she felt scared just at the sight of darkness but in her defence she didn’t fear the darkness but what tremors hid in them.

She shakes her head and leaves the sheets she found safe and wore her shoes, before tying the black mop on her head into a tight ponytail. She huffs before wearing a windbreaker and left her haunting room.

She walks across the floorboards cautiously not wanting to wake the rest of the residents taking refuge in the dark and she leaves the house, flying towards the desired peaceful lake she wishes to feel.

The wind brushes against her coco skin and her wolf grunts wanting to feel the wind past her fur as she thrusts against it with speed. She sheds the windbreaker and tight as well as the shoes before hearing her wolf whining impatiently for the release.

The cracking and breaking of bones fill her ears and echo through the night and she lands her auburn pause on the floor. Her wolf sets out a joyful howl before her claws dig through the earth and she takes off leaving the particles and dust behind.

She runs faster, enjoying the thrill of the wind enjoying how it brushed against her skin, against her fur- her coat. She grunted at her human to give her full control, not liking how her human lingered, waiting for an opportunity to take over again and her human listened to her desire to be fully in control.

Her human disappeared and took refuge in the pits of her wolf's abyss, letting her other half be an animal without supervision. She focused on her wolf’s emotions, the serenity, the calm, the joy and she relished in those emotions not wanting to feel her own.

She’s startled to feel the emotion of uncertainty running through her wolf’s veins, caution builds up in her chest and she comes back to the limelight to see what her wolf is seeing.

Her wolf had stopped running and was now looking into the darkness around her. She growls in warning at the feeling of someone watching her, the sound of a branch snapping makes her growl a threatening warning.

The wind picks up again and the scent so familiar to her brushes against her skin and her eyes settle on the big shadow of an oak tree, letting a small rumble of a growl echo through the forest encouraging the wolf watching her to show itself.

Her tense attacker mode was now relaxed and she focuses on the scent before whining, wanting the male to come out of the shadows and he does.

Black eyes that had blended in the shadows meet her emerald eyes and she watches as the male approaches her with his blond coat coming into view as the gap between them closes. He brushes his fur against hers and nuzzles his face into her fur. Her wolf pushes him away but he whines before nuzzling in her warmth again and she lets him.

Her wolf gruffs in annoyance wanting the young male to let her be and once he does, he sits on his hind looking up at her. She growls before turning away from him and running towards her destination often turning to make sure that the pup was following.

They reach the small lake after some time of their paws meeting the floor, they shake their fur as they drink from the lake and lay on the green and she enjoys the sound of the running water soothing her mind.

But her peace is soon distributed as the young pup tugs on her ears demanding attention.

She growls at the laughter of her human ringing in her head. The pup continues to peg for attention and her wolf huffs as if rolling her eyes and finally gives in to the pups demands and they play along the lake. Chasing each other, jumping on each other and small little fights wanting to tire out the pup’s energy.

Soon enough the pup is nuzzled deep into her fur, his small breaths fanning her fur and she lays on her paws, protectively curled around him and sleep washes over her demanding its own attention.

The sun shines upon the small meadow and she feels the jerk of something on her side. Her head lifts and she stares at the small boy that had just kicked her side just a second ago. His pale skin on display, his naked body only covered by parts of her fur.

She smiled knowing that he must have been exhausted from shifting, after all, he is just a newly shifted pup. ‘Is he with you?’ his voice fills her ears, the thread holding them together thrums.

‘As always,’ she links back before shifting back into her own skin.

Picking up the young male who lays sleeping in her arms, her black hair now loose and flowing to the tip of her back. She smiles as he nuzzles deeper into her, a new day little one.
