Chapter 14
The slight wind from outside flowed through the window, making her lift her head, enjoying the refreshing breeze. The wind left her in comfort, somewhat seeming to have taken her worries for the time being.
But the moment didn’t last, remembering the vivid grey eyes that stared right through her. She remembers the emotions she felt: uncertainty, joy, fear, excitement. A roller coaster of emotions.
She sighs, thinking about what had transpired when their eyes locked. Remembering the way he turned away from her and leaving the hall with his pack, without even looking back at her.
She had felt her heart squeeze with the idea of her mate rejecting her. And ever since he left her standing there, she’s been wishing he would knock on her bedroom door, she’s been wishing just to smell his rain scent once again.
But now it seems like a memory even though it was only hours ago.
She has not been able to sleep from that moment on. Her wolf was agitated and in need of her mate but she too could not deny that their mate may not want them, but her hope has always been stronger than Solani’s.
“You’re doing it again.”, she heard him whisper. Tilting her head a little, she sees his fiery hair first before he lays beside her on the couch.
“You’re thinking too much.”, he tells her laying his head on her shoulders, making her tense for a moment.
“Well, it’s one of my best traits.”, she says laying her head on top of his.
“How long have you been up?”
“I never slept.”, she admits.
The silence between them is comforting but not enough to let her mind ease up, as it goes back into a tsunami mode, ticking with thoughts.
She thought of her mate, his life and what he had endured. She could never shake the way he made her feel. She got so protective as if wanting to shield him from all the pain he has been through and she couldn’t help the growing hate she felt for Elina.
Honestly, she enjoyed hating Elina. The pompous she-wolf who thought she was better than anyone.
“What’s going to happen to The Council?” she asks, “to Elina?”.
She hears him huff and feels his body relax further, “Well… All high-ranking packs will hold a meeting to discuss their fate but that’s if anyone wants to challenge the council”. “And Elina?”.
“There’s nothing the council, nor anyone could do for that matter. She will live on freely but the only satisfaction we can get is that her blood will never rule.”
“Well, that’s not fair. What about the Rouge King? Doesn’t he get some sort of justice?”
Silence follows after her question and she gets up letting his head fall on the couch. With a groan, she looks down on him expecting an answer but what he says catches her off guard.
“You mean what kind of justice does your mate receive?” Her cheeks turn a little bit pink as she becomes flustered for a minute but she groans walking away from Lugar and muttering a few words under her breath at the same time wondering how he found out.
