The Hunter Becomes the Hunted

It took Charlie most of the day to locate Leon, the last person that she had seen with her sword, she walked up behind him

“where is my sword?” she snapped making him jump

“I have it at my house” Leon replied Turning to face her

“why would you have it there?” Charlie asked

“a thing of such beauty would not be safe in the city armoury, anyone could take it, if you will follow me, I will take you to it” Leon replied and he led Charlie to his house, once they had entered the house Leon shut the door behind her

“where is it?” she snapped

“firstly, I must apologise for my part in what happened to you” Leon said

“you were being a good soldier and doing what you were told” Charlie replied

“I did not mean to hurt you” Leon said

“you did not now, where is my damn sword” Charlie snapped getting annoyed with his constant talking

Leon went and fetched her sword, once he was back in the room, he went up really close to her and started to look for the cuts and bruises that should have been all over her, she was covered in cuts and bruises when he had chained her to the wall the night before

“there is not a mark on you” Leon said

“as I said you did not hurt me” Charlie replied

“let me make it up to you” Leon said and pulled her close, he tried to kiss her

“you think that you need to do that to make it up to me” Charlie said pushing him away

“it is how I make it up to the other ladies in this village” Leon replied

“I am off limits to you or anyone else, touch me again and you will die” Charlie snapped

“I was only being polite” Leon shouted “now get the hell out of my house” he added

“with pleasure” she replied and took her sword from Leon and left his house, she walked around looking at everyone in the village feeling very sorry for all of them, all these people had to protect them was a fool of a man and he could not even protect a fly, she was just walking past the market thinking about everything that had happened so far and what was likely to still happen

“I have been looking everywhere for you” Jack said walking up to her

“I thought you wanted to be alone” Charlie said

“I did, I see you found your sword” Jack said

“I did the fool of a man tried to kiss me, to make up for what he had done” Charlie said

“I will go and see him” Jack said grumpily

“you do not need to worry, he will not try it again, I do not need your protection, what was you looking for me for?” Charlie asked

“they have the person that you wish to talk to” Jack replied

Jack and Charlie walked to the hall, where they found a lot of people waiting and in the middle of the room sat a young man

“who are you?” Charlie asked

“my name is Dale” he replied

“what do you do here?” Charlie asked

“I gather information on them and anything else that maybe useful to our leader” Dale replied

“where did you get the information about the chains?’ Charlie asked

“from the next village over, they said that they had found a book and I brought it back here” Dale replied

“last one, where did you hear about me?” Charlie asked

“I don’t know who you are” Dale replied

“that is a lie, you told me that a woman and a man would be travelling here and that she was a vampire” David shouted

“yes, I did tell you that but only after someone else told me” Dale replied

“who?” Charlie asked

“I will not answer that” Dale said and looked down at the floor

“shut the doors and do not open them again until I tell you” Charlie said and watched as all the doors were closed and boltex

“what are you doing?” Jack whispered going over to her

“there is a vampire here and he is under their spell” Charlie replied

“how do you know?” asked Jack

“because I do now, help me find them,” she said

“okay” Jack said and started to walk around the edge of the room

“one amongst you here does not belong, one of you is a vampire step forward now and you can leave here with your life, if you do not you will die” Charlie said

“they won’t step forward” Dale said

“shut him up” Charlie said and Dale was gagged by the guards

“I find it hard to believe that none of you know that there is a vampire amongst you, it is a wonder that all of you are not vampires” she said and pulled her dagger across her hand so that no one could see, no matter how hard they tried whoever it was, would not be able to hide their reaction to the blood “one of you must know who it is, they are never out in the sunlight, certain things make them go funny” she was saying and then she spotted her walking around the edge of the room , being what she was Charlie was able to get her before she realised what was happening and she put her sword to her throat

“going somewhere” Charlie said

“leave my wife alone” Leon shouted

“you have a wife” Charlie said watching as Leon tried to get to her “Jack” she said and he knew what she meant, he grabbed Leon and held him

“well?” asked Charlie

“I am getting away from whoever it is” the woman replied

“she is not a vampire, tell them Kay baby” Leon shouted

“do shut Leon, you wouldn’t know a vampire if it smacked you in the face, your wife has been one for no more than a year” Charlie said

“I am not one of them” Kay said

“if you are not a vampire then I guess that I am a real human” Charlie said

“I am not” Kay said and began to cry

“why do you all think that crying will make you seem more human, shall we show them what you truly are” Charlie said putting her cut hand across Kay’s mouth, the instant the blood hit her lips, she become what anyone would recognise as a vampire

’”no not my beautiful wife” Leon said “why did you not tell me baby?” Leon asked

“you are a fool Leon, I know what you do with the woman in this village, I only married you for your job not for love, the only person that truly understands me is my king” Kay replied

“on that note I would like to know more about your so, called king” Charlie said but just as Kay was about to answer, she heard a commotion behind her and Leon had gotten free, he was making his way towards her, she turned in time to push him away, as she went to turn back to Kay to get the answers she wanted, Kay went to attack but was not quick enough and out of reflex Charlie rook her head

“Leon you bloody idiot, look what you made me do, I needed answers from her” Charlie said and saw Jack walking towards her

“you were supposed to keep her alive” Jack said

“does it look like I had a choice” Charlie replied as all around the two of them panic erupted, with people running around and trying to escape

“come on everyone, please calm down” David was saying

“enough” shouted Charlie “there are no more vampires in this room” Charlie added

“how do you know” one asked

“because she is one of them” Leon shouted so that everyone could hear

“I am not well, I am but I will not hurt you, I am on your side” Charlie said but nobody was listening, all they heard was, vampire

“can you wait outside while the council talk” David said

“really” Charlie said why couldn’t people just say thank you she thought, Charlie wiped the blood from her sword and put it back in its sheath, with Jack at her side they walked from the hall to wait outside, they had only been outside a short moment when they were called back in

“we have decided that although you helped us on this occasion you are still one of them and could change sides at any point” David said

“are you bloody mad, she hates them more than any living person, there is no way in hell that she would ever join Their side” Jack shouted

“the decision has been me made” David replied

“I think that you are all mad, not wanting her here to protect you” Jack shouted so that everyone in the room could hear what he had said

“you can stay as you are human” David said

“you must be totally insane if you think that I would stay here with you, you may have your high walls but you have no idea who is and who isn’t a vampire, I am far safer at Charlie’s side than I would ever be here” Jack replied

“if that is your choice then you can leave now” David said

Charlie and Jack were given enough time to collect their belongings and then were promptly escorted to its gates, they had got rid of the one person in the world that could have helped them

“well that was fun” said Jack smiling at her “where next?” he asked

“to the next village, well city if I remember correctly which means we may face a coven this time, thank you for what you said in there” Charlie replied

“you are my friend, that is why I said what I did” Jack replied “what is a coven?” he asked

“a vampire nest” Charlie replied “I may have said in the past that I do not need help or friends on this journey but I may have been wrong” Charlie added looking at Jack who just smiled at her, Charlie did not understand why Jack would want to be friends with someone like her but at least she was not alone
