The Hunter Becomes the Hunted

The king stood and waited at his carriage whilst his men dealt out the punishment to Alex’s family, the men soon returned with Alex between them, he had tears running down his face

“they are dead because you are a fool their death is your fault and you will be punished when I decide it is time” the king said

“yes, my King” Alex said

“I want you in groups and I want her hunted” the king shouted

“we will find her and kill her for you my king” one said

“no” the king said

“what?” the man asked

“I do not want her killed I want her brought to me alive” he shouted so that everyone could hear him

“why, my king?” he asked

“because she does not deserve a quick death, she deserves to suffer” he replied “and when you see her give her this” he said handing the man the necklace that he had been wearing, he had already taken off the ring and put it on his finger, he did not need to give them that, if they gave that to her she would know who he was and he did not wat that

“what good will that do?” he asked

“because it is one of a pair and she wears the other” the king replied “whatever you do, I do not want you to tell her who I am, I don’t want her to know until I have her in front of me” the king added

“what does it mean?” the man asked looking at the necklace

“she will know it means business” the king replied “she will now that if she does not stop, she and everything she cares about will die” he added

“yes, my king” the man said and they split into groups to start to track her, the king would send more men when he got back to the castle, it took the king two days to get back to the castle with Alex as his prisoner, he was angry for the entire journey and could not quite believe that the humans had been so stupid as to let her escape especially after the warning that he had given them, why would nobody listen to him when it was he that knew her better than anyone else and knew exactly what she was capable of , he would not leave it to the humans anymore, he would deal with this, once they were back at the castle Alex was thrown in a cell and the king went to find Leigh

“where is she?” Leigh asked as he walked into the room

“she escaped my love” he replied

“you promised me” she shouted

“I know my love but the humans are so bloody stupid that they let her escape” the king replied “we will get her” he added

“and how are you going to do that?” Leigh asked

“I have sent all the men I took with me to hunt her and I will send more” the king replied

“they had better get her” Leigh said

“Ash” shouted the king

“yes, my king” Ash said as he walked into the room

“I want groups of twenty-five men sent to Baren now” the king said

“how many?” Ash asked

“four groups should be enough” the king replied

“what are they to do?” Ash asked

“they are going hunting” the king replied

“and what are they hunting?” Ash asked

“a woman left Baren two days ago, they will find her scent in the basement of the mayors house, I want them to track and capture her and bring her back to me” the king replied

“as you wish, I will send them at dawn” Ash said

“no, they will leave now” he shouted

“yes, my king” ash said and walked from the hall

“will they get her?” Leigh asked

“yes” he replied

“is there any point to all of this really, when we don’t even know if it is her” Leigh asked

“it’s her” the king replied so full of hatred and anger that he got up and began to smash anything that he could find to try and relieve that anger that he was feeling

“and you said that you had your emotions under control” Leigh said

“I do” he replied

“smashing things up is having your emotions under control” she said

“I told you before this helps” he snapped

“like I am going to believe that smashing things up help” Leigh said

“you think that you know how I feel” he shouted

“I think that you are angry” she replied

“of course, I am angry” he snapped

“why my love?” Leigh asked

“because she is hunting me” he replied

“do not let her get to you” Leigh said

“do not let her get to me, what a stupid thing to say” the king chuckled

“she cannot hurt you” Leigh said

“how would you know what she can do? You have never even met her and you have no idea what she is like, if she has set her mind to something, she will not quit until one of us is dead” he replied

“do not worry my love, she won’t hurt and do not let her get to you” Leigh said

“how do I not let her get to me? When I was human that woman, meant everything to me, I hate her for abandoning me, I was glad when I thought she was dead, there was nothing else that mattered in my life but her she was everything” the king said

“but you have me now, my love” Leigh said

“you think that you can compare to her” the king laughed

“I thought that you hated her” Leigh said

“I do but I also remember what she was like, she was more beautiful than anyone that I have ever met” he said remembering her face

“am I not beautiful?” Leigh asked

“not like her” the king replied thinking about her red her and her purple eyes

“thanks for that” Leigh snapped

“well, you did ask why you did not compare to her and that is one of the reasons” the king replied

“go on then, what else?” Leigh asked

“you really want to know?” he asked

“why you are being honest you may as well tell me” she snapped

“unlike you, she was brave and strong, she was independent, she never needed anyone, she was anything anyone could ever wish for and more, she was my soul mate, she was everything that you are not” he replied

“I see” said Leigh “it sounds like you are still very much in love with her, I will leave you to your thoughts, if you do decide that I am enough for you, then you will find me in our bedroom” Leigh said and walked from the hall crying

By the time he realised what she had said, she was already past the point where she would be able to hear him, he had not mean to be so cruel but as usual he was angry and did not think before he spoke, yes, Leigh did not compare to her but he did love her in his own way, when he had met Leigh he had only been a vampire for a couple of years and he was angry all the time, he was finding all the hunters he could, killing and torturing many to find her, he wanted her dead for abandoning him, he was told of a hunters house, he went straight to the house but did not found any hunters instead he found Leigh a human, the hunter that had told him under torture had lied

When he walked into the room where Leigh was hiding, she didn’t scream or beg for mercy, she just sat up and spoke to him

“you look angry” she said

“I am, are you not scared of me?” he asked

“no, my sister Amy is one of you and visits me most nights” she replied

“I know Amy, why has she not turned you?” he asked

“I don’t know but why are you angry?” she asked

“because somebody I cared about left me to die” he replied

“they did not care for you very much, if they left you to die, I do not know why anyone would leave somebody they cared about, with the world being like it is” Leigh said to him

“I am hoping that one day this world will be made better” he said

“how?” Leigh asked

“because we will rule and there will be no one left who can hurt us” he replied

“but I am not like you” she said “you could be” he replied

“how?” she asked

“I can make you like us” he replied

“I would like to get to know you first” she said

“you can come with us, if you like” he said

“I will” said Leigh and that was the start of their relationship, he took Leigh back to the castle and for six months they spoke every day, it was strange, she seemed to have a calming effect on him, no matter how angry he was when he went to see her, she calmed him down, she soon asked him to change her and not long after they got married

As he sat there in his hall, he thought of Leigh and how much she had helped him over the years, but he was soon back to thinking about her, what he could not understand was why she was using his name, had she read the history books, did she know that everyone in the world would hate her as much as he did if they knew who she was
