Chapter 11 - The Natania People - Part 1
Lucian POV
The first hour of weapons training we worked on throwing axes which Viola caught on right away as it's not much different than knives. So I started showing her how to use more than one weapon at a time. So, how to sword fight and then throw or stab with a knife. Since Viola has been catching on so well with weapons training she easily caught on to using multiple weapons. I'm so proud of her and the rate at which she's training. She could beat some of my warriors in a sword fight right now. That makes my chest swell with pride.
The second hour of hand to hand combat we trained on grappling wrestling. Viola is quite a bit smaller than the average warrior but that doesn't mean she can't take someone down and she needs to be ready to defend herself from these techniques. We practiced clinch fighting, takedowns, throws, submission holds, pinning techniques, sweeps, reversals, turnovers, and escapes. Then we always end with sparring to put our lessons into practice. Everyday she gets better at the hand to combat. She no longer flinches when I throw punches, she's more confident to take the offensive, and she's quicker at dodging punches. She's learning how to use her height difference compared to the average warrior to her advantage. Maybe another month or two of sparring and she'll be as good as one of my warriors at hand to hand to combat.
"Viola, come this way. We're not going back to our tent just yet." I guided her with my arm now that we were done with our training. I've noticed how good she is at using strategy to take down her opponent during fighting. So, I was thinking about inviting her to some of my meetings. It might be nice to hear a fresh opinion and she was pretty smart too.
"Oh? Where are we going?" Viola instantly perked up.
"I'm taking you to the weekly meetings that I attend as General. You can either observe or feel free to participate by offering your opinion." I smile at her as we reach the meeting tent.
"The first meeting is with my lieutenants regarding rogue militia attacks and if they are preparing to strike again." I explain as we step inside and I start to greet my lieutenants and get an extra chair for Viola. I noticed some of my lieutenants seemed to stiffen up when they realized she would be attending our meeting but they would just have to get over it.
"Why don't we offer peaceful negotiation?" Viola asks innocently
"We would but the Notwood Kingdom is in civil war right now and by policy we do not interfere with other countries' political upheavals. Also, the rogue militias are in territory that is just off our borders and the Notwood Kingdom doesn't care what they're doing. They're fighting for any territory they can get their hands on." I try to explain knowing that all of this is new to her.
"So, then why don't we just dominate and kill all of the rogue militias?" Viola asks with a smile on her face.
Lieutenant Elderbern claps his hands and laughs out loud. "I like her already!"
"They're difficult to find because they constantly move. They never stay in one place. When they get close to our camp and stay there we know they are going to attack. We also have to be careful that they are not squatting on our land without paying taxes." I will explain. "But we could consider an offensive combat attack. Thoughts from my other Lieutenants?" I say after thinking it over."
"I'm game." Lieutenant Chasen agrees
"It would be much nicer to be on the offensive rather than always being on the defensive." Lieutenant Olivent also agrees.
"Let's do this. Can you imagine how many troops we can send home or send to another border?" Lieutenant Kaine also agrees.
"Well, it looks like everyone agrees. Great! Lieutenant Kaine, send out four scouts to look for their camps so we know where to attack. I also need you to coordinate between purchasing and the other departments to ensure that we have enough supplies needed. Lieutenant Olivent, increase training so the men are ready for battle. Lieutenant Chasen ensure the hospital is ready for an increase flow of patients. Viola, can you volunteer some time to work at the hospital? Lieutenant Elderbern, can you make sure that everyone has an ample supply of weapons from the forge?" I bark out orders to everyone present.
"Of course I can volunteer at the hospital. That would be my pleasure." Viola replys somewhat shyly.
"Well Viola, look at you! Look at what you did by just asking simple questions. I'm so proud of you!" I look at her with true admiration in my eyes. "Lieutenant Kaine, see if your scouts can be back in four days. I would like to get this over quickly." I hear agreements as the meeting is adjourned.

My Lieutenants already take care of training, the hospital, and the forge so I don't have extra meetings with those departments. My last meetings are with finance and purchasing. The two departments that I hate meeting with the most. But the meetings go by relatively fast. I ensure with finance that we have enough money to purchase additional supplies that weren't budgeted for. I then notify purchasing of an influx of orders that will be coming over the next day or so because of the impending battle.
Viola POV
I can't believe Lucian said he was proud of me in front of all his lieutenants! That made my heart swell so big! This man is just too much.
Lucian takes my hand after the last meeting and we walk back to our tent. But instead of going inside he guides me to the side of the tent.
"I'm going to change into my dragon form so you can ride him and then we're going to a very special destination. Hold my clothes for me." He says as he smiles at me.
Lucian changes into his dragon form and I climb on top as he takes off I hug onto his neck. I'm still afraid of flying but I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually and with the exciting places that he takes me to I can withstand the fear. His dragon is a beautiful red color with a black underbelly. He's actually quite stunning to look at.
Slowly the weather around me gets warmer and I notice Lucian's dragon starting to descend. We landed in a clearing surrounded by forest. I can hear birds chirping and animals making noises that I never heard of. All of the grass, trees, and flowers are in full bloom. Everything looks beautiful. I climb off of Lucian and he changes back to his human form. I hand him his clothes but he doesn't put them on right away. He walks me down a path towards a beautiful waterfall and lake. "Come on! Let's go for a swim!" He jumps right in all naked so I take off my clothes and get in the water. The water feels so refreshing. We play in the water splashing each other and Lucian dives underneath to grab my leg out from underneath me. We both laugh the entire time. I end up in his arms and we're kissing passionately when I hear a loud thumping noise. I turn to look over my shoulder and the side of the lake is lined with native men wearing nothing but a little piece of leather tied to a string to cover their private area and in each of their right hand is a spear. I take in a big gulp of air.
"Hey Niko! It's been a long time, brother. Can my wife and I share lodging at your father's camp?" Lucian asks as he moves to the shoreline.
"Of course! Come this way." The man Lucian called Niko stands forward and thumps his spear for emphasis.
Lucian gets out of the water and starts getting dressed.
"Lucian! Lucian!" I'm still in the water and I'm not about to get out all naked in front of a bunch of native men. There has to be at least 30 of them. "Lucian, I can't get out of the water!"
"Why not? What's wrong? Ohhhhh. You're shy. Don't worry. These guys don't mind." Lucian tries to reassure me.
"Lucian! Are you fucking crazy? I'm not getting out of this fucking water with 30 men staring at me!" I really think Lucian has lost his damn marbles.
"Okay. Niko can your guys walk over there so my lady can get out of the water and get dressed? She's a bit shy." He nods and stomps his spear and the men follow him around the corner of the lake where they can't see. Okay. The coast is clear. You can come out." Lucian reaches out to help me out of the water.
*Matlock Village: Outskirts of the Eastern Army *
Ambrose POV
I have got Royse settled in at the cottage just outside of the Matlock Village near the outskirts of the eastern army which I am a general of. I can keep an eye on her here until it gets closer to when she has to give birth and then I can move her to the castle in Drakor. I send two messengers out, one to my father and one to Lucian, to tell them that I have helped Royse escape the Xsar Empire and she is pregnant with my child. They also need to expect the possibility of war with the empire
