Marvin was a little more inclined toward believing Corinne and thus asked her again, “Do you swear you’re telling the truth?
You’re not lying to me, are you?”
Corinne kept her calm and assured him, “Don’t worry, Dad. I’ll never do that sort of scandalous thing.
Marvin breathed a sigh of relief. “You don’t know how relieved I am! Don’t you ever end up doing bad stuff, okay? I’d be such a
disappointment to your late mother if you did!”
Sherlyn was furious to see Marvin’s sudden change of attitude toward Corinne, and she tried to complain again, “Dad, even if
Corinne isn’t a bar hostess, her actual job isn’t much better either! I didn’t want to tell you this because I’m worried that you’d get
angry if you find out, but since it’s clear that Corinne shows no intention of learning from her mistakes, I think it’s only right for me
to say something as her sister! Here goes... The truth is, Corinne’s working as a maid for a rich family! The landlord she
mentioned is actually her employer!”
“What?” Marvin frowned again and looked at Corinne unhappily. “Is that true? Are you now working as a maid?”
“Hmm, I guess...you could say that?” Corinne felt that her predicament was somewhat similar to that of a maid, notably in that
she was ‘enslaved’ by Jeremy and forced into cooperating with his requests at all times as his pretend-wife.
Marvin fumed at Corinne’s stubbornness and said, “You stopped working at Alpha Enterprises just so you could change careers
and be a maid? What on earth is going on in your mind?”
Just as Corinne was about to speak, Sherlyn took the lead and said, “Corinne was fired by Alpha Enterprises! I don’t even want
to know what she did to get herself fired!”
Marvin once again looked at Corinne in disappointment. “When will you stop making me worry so much? You know what, I’m not
going to care about you anymore. You’re free to work as a maid if you want, but you’d better not tell anyone that you’re my
daughter. I can’t afford to lose my reputation because of you!”
Corinne’s expression remained unchanged, and she responded in a matter-of-fact manner, “The thing is, the topic of my
graduation thesis is “The Development of Industries Related to Domestic Service’. The ingredients necessary for a good thesis is
to experience first-hand the work life of someone in the domestic services industry. Besides, I don’t think there’s any shame for
someone to earn some money doing honest work.”

Marvin was stunned, and he realized that his youngest daughter’s words made perfect sense. His displeased expression
softened gradually, and he said, “So that’s how it is!”
Corinne nodded and calmly added, “You needn’t worry about my graduation thesis, Dad. Though I must say that you should
advise Sherlyn not to be so hard on herself!”
Marvin frowned in surprise. “What did your sister do?”
Sherlyn had a puzzled look too. “Advise me? Why? What do you mean by that, Corinne? Why are you asking Dad to advise
me?”
Corinne looked at Sherlyn and sighed. “The entertainment circle is a murky place, and it must’ve been difficult for you to struggle
on your own. You should’ve told us earlier if you were bullied. Why would you deal with it all by yourself?”
Sherlyn was confused. “What on earth are you talking about, Corinne?”
Corinne took out her cell phone, clicked on a certain news article online, and handed her phone over to Marvin. “I can’t bring
myself to tell you what happened to her. Here, see for yourself...”
Marvin took the phone skeptically and looked at it. His eyes widened all of a sudden, and he exploded with rage in an instant. He
looked up, glanced angrily at Sherlyn, and roared, “Shameless! Utterly shameless! How could you do such a thing?”
Sherlyn was stunned for a moment and asked blankly, “Why are you scolding me, Dad?”
Scolding was not the only thing Marvin wanted to do. He could have strangled her to death if he could! “You have the decency to
ask me that? You ought to know about all those things you did!”
“But I... I didn’t do anything!” Sherlyn panicked and did not understand what was going on. “What did you show him?”
Corinne blinked and glanced silently at Sherlyn before saying, “Didn’t you know you’re on the trending searches again today?
This time, you’re at the very top of that list.
