The Chronicles of Moon

Chapter 12

Uncomfortable

The large man and Moon stared for a long moment at Colin as he pulled himself together. Moon didn’t think Colin was capable of laughing. The man was always so serious.

“Moon, what are you doing in my office?” Colin finally regains his serious composure, but his eyes don’t look as serious.

“I didn’t know it was your office. I just wanted to find a phone to call Ben. I know he must be worried sick by now.” Moon fidgets and slips off the desk, moving a little bit away from the man she swatted; and eyeing him.

Colin watches as Moon moves away from the poor man she assaulted with a rolled-up magazine and chuckles a little. “Moon, this is my Gamma Zach. He is filling in for Chris. Zach, this is Moon. I told you earlier she would be staying here while Johnny recovers. Moon, I have already called Ben, and he knows everything I know. You are still more than welcome to call him. I had men go and get the trucks and as much lumber as possible. Some were damaged, and it seems that most of it was stolen. It seems strange to want to steal lumber, but I need to do a better inventory of it.”

Colin walks over to Moon, reaching into his pocket, pulling out her cell phone, and giving it to her. She takes it and sees fifty missed calls and messages from Ben and Emily.

“Thank you, Alpha.” Moon is trying to be more respectful of Colin, considering she is in his pack now.

“Oh, don’t start following the rules now. Colin is fine.” He almost smiles at her but turns and walks to Zach, patting him on the shoulder.

“Well, thank you and sorry, Zach, but you can’t just growl at someone like that.” Moon pops her hip out and places her hand on it, looking at Zach, and he shrinks a little.

“Sorry Miss.” Zach shyly says for a big guy, he seems more afraid of her now, and Moon giggles. “My name is Moon.”

“No, it’s Sarah,” Colin says, sitting down at his desk and pulling out the lumber files he even has, the one Henry gave her this morning. Moon figures he got it from the truck already.

“Hey, you have the file I was supposed to give you. Henry wanted you to check it and sign it; I need to ensure you do. Henry’s orders. And just call me Moon. No one has called me Sarah since I was three.”

Colin looks up at Moon as she comes and sits on the desk again. She actually takes the file and starts flipping through it. Zach seems impressed with her boldness, but Moon doesn’t seem to notice or care that both men are staring at her.

Moon is too focused on flipping through the files’ papers, and she’s happy to see they are all there. “They all seem to be here,” Moon says, handing the file back to Colin.

“Great, now can you stop sitting on my desk?” he raises an eyebrow at her.

“Oh, sorry bad habit. I guess I will go back to my room now. Has there been an update on Johnny?”

“He’s still the same. You don’t have to go to your room if you don’t want to.” Colin even seems shocked for a moment. Show her around stupid, ask her if she’s hungry. Fuck, just ask her to stay here with us and let her keep sitting on the desk. Just do something!!! Farrell is so loud in Colin’s mind it’s making it hard for him to hear what Moon says as she slides off his desk.

“I should go and call Ben. Thanks, though.” Moon is heading to the door and Colin fights to remain sitting as Farrell pushes him to stand up and follow her. No, she’s leaving now dummy! Farrell howls and finally retreats again. Huffing in annoyance.

“Alpha, are you okay?” Zach asks.

Colin blinks and looks down to see he has been gripping the edge of his desk. “Yeah, I’m fine.”

“Okay, she’s pretty cute, you know.” Zach looks at the door Moon just left through, and when he turns around, he’s met with Colin’s staring him down. Colin’s eyes are black as he growls.

“Sorry, Alpha. What did I say?”

“Stay away from her.” It isn’t Colin speaking now; Farrell is in control.

“Yes, Alpha, of course, I just meant, well, I didn’t mean anything.” Zach stumbles over every word and shows his neck in submission.

Farrell snaps his jaws once and storms out of the office. Colin manages to convince him to go for a run rather than scaring Moon to death, chasing after her, or storming into her room like he wants to. What is wrong with you, Farrell? She isn’t our mate. We would know if she was. Colin tries to reason with the wolf, but he isn’t listening as they storm out of the packhouse, and everyone gives him plenty of space. Farrell doesn’t care, and he shifts, heading for the woods and running as hard as he can. Something about Moon is special; Farrell can feel it even if Colin can’t.

Moon calls Ben and reassures him that she is fine, and johnny was the same. Moon plans to go and check on Johnny in the morning. She is pretty sure she can remember the way to the clinic, but walking would take a while. She has always been a morning person, so she knows she could explore the town a bit by getting an early start. She didn’t really want to bother anyone about giving her a ride.

Moon lays on the soft bed and notices her ribs hurt much less than they did before, and she still wonders if the doctor is correct and if she has a wolf after all. Before she can really give it much thought, she drifts off to sleep.

The night was just as restless as the rest of her nights have been lately. She keeps dreaming of a large white wolf running in the moonlight. While the dream is beautiful it always leaves her feeling uncomfortable and like she didn’t sleep at all.

The sun isn’t even up, and Moon checks her phone, and it’s only four in the morning. She had been brought a charger and something to eat while she was on the phone with Ben. Moon just feels restless now and decides to get up.

She changes and decides now is as good a time as any to find the kitchen. She’s sure for a pack this size and a packhouse of this many wolves the kitchen will be busy getting breakfast ready. Moon wants some coffee, and hopefully, there are waffles with strawberries.

Once she is back on the first floor of the packhouse, she starts wandering around all the common areas. She finds the dining room and can smell the delicious smell of coffee and bacon. Following the scent leads her to the kitchen, where about five omegas are busy buzzing around getting things ready. One older woman with her curly salt and pepper hair pulled up in a mess of a bun looks up at her.

“Well, good morning, dear. You must be Miss Sarah.” The woman smiles warmly. “I’m Ann. Come on in here. You must be hungry.”

Moon smiles back at her and walks over to the island counter, Ann is working at slicing fruit.

“Just call me Moon everyone does.” She says, hopping up into a stool. Moon feels completely fine this morning. She isn’t even stiff or anything after everything from yesterday.

“All right, Moon, it is. What can I get for you?” Ann warmly chirps

“Oh, I just came for some coffee if it isn’t too much of a bother.” Moon feels weird having someone wait on her. In her pack, you do for yourself.

“Nonsense I’ll get it for you. If you ask me, you need to eat something you’re to think as it is. I have bacon and sausage. Oatmeal, cereal, I think the pancakes and waffles are about ready and clearly fruit.” Ann giggles gesturing to the fruit in front of her.

“Waffles, please, with syrup and strawberries.” Moon lights up a little at the thought that she gets to have her favorite breakfast.

“Coming right up.” Ann winks and hurries off. She’s back in less than a moment with a plate of waffles dripping in syrup. She scoops up some strawberries and puts the plate in front of Moon. Another girl brings Moon some coffee, and Moon feels utterly embarrassed that they are waiting on her.

“So, how do you like the packhouse?” Ann asks as she gets back to work.

“It’s lovely. From what I have seen, it’s just really big.” Moon looks around the kitchen, taking in its size.

Ann just laughs and keeps working as Moon eats her food, trying not to make a mess.

“So you do eat food but only if it’s covered in syrup.” Colin is standing behind Moon, and she jumps, turning in the seat to look at him.

“Good Moring, Alpha.” Ann chirps, smiling at him.

“Good morning Ann,” Colin replies, but he’s still staring at Moon. He reaches out and wipes syrup off her lip. Moon shivers, her eyes going wide. He moves away before Moon can even think clearly again. Why is he like that with her? Why does he love making her so uncomfortable?

Colin gets his coffee, returns to the counter, and swipes a strawberry from the fruit bowl.

“So, Moon, why are you up so early anyway?” Colin asks her popping the fruit in his mouth.

Moon is still having difficulty thinking clearly, and after a moment, she regains herself. “I was going to walk to the clinic and see Johnny.”

“You don’t need to walk. I was heading there later. You can just go with me.” Colin says taking another strawberry. He didn’t seem to notice he’s managing to make Moon so uncomfortable.

“I’ll come to get you later when I’m ready to go.”

Again, before Moon can argue or say no, Colin leaves the kitchen. Moon doesn’t want to go with him, and she certainly isn’t a fan of not even being asked and having decisions made for her.

“We’ll just see about that.” Moon mumbles as she drinks her coffee. Ann gives a little amused chuckle but doesn’t say anything. Moon can only imagine Colin is used to getting his way in many things, and she has no interest in being his plaything if that is what he’s thinking. She knows she won’t be waiting around for him like some little puppy.
