Chapter 826
"What's your view on it?"
"Your mother seems unaware of the situation, but it's likely she knows more about Kelly's matter. Your uncle is definitely hiding something from her, and it's probably related to Janet. As for that child... I believe the child does exist." Charles raised a hand. "Go and find out. Do we still have contacts in the Capiton from three years ago?"
"We do, Mr. Hoffman," Ronald replied with a smile, recognizing that Charles was serious this time.
Charles had always avoided harsh actions as long as there was room for compromise. For the sake of his connection to Clarisse, he had refrained from taking drastic measures. However, since the Bakers had now decided to force his hand, Charles was not going to hold back.
"I'll gather our contacts and start working in Capiton. But what about your mother?" Ronald asked cautiously, mindful that Clarisse was still connected to the Bakers.
Charles' lips curled slightly. "Do it. You don't need to worry about that." Since Milo had chosen to leave Clarisse with the Hoffmans, there was no need for hesitation.
"I'll handle it right away," Ronald replied before leaving the room.
Once alone, Charles picked up the phone and dialed the Hoffman residence's number. James, the Hoffmans' butler, answered.
Charles inquired about Nancy's well-being and was relieved to learn that Clarisse had not caused any trouble recently. With Henry's care, Nancy's health had even improved slightly.
After hanging up, Charles stood quietly for a moment before heading downstairs.
In the living room, Noelle was watching a comedy, laughing so hard that she rolled across the couch with tears forming at the corners of her eyes.
Charles leaned casually against the stair railing, with one hand resting on the banister. He tapped his slender fingers rhythmically, watching Noelle with amusement. It was not often he saw her behave so childishly, and it brought a rare smile to his face. Sensing a gaze on her, Noelle turned her head and spotted Charles standing there. There was a gentle smile playing on his lips.
"Charlie!" she called out, sitting up quickly and smoothing her hair in embarrassment. She shifted to sit properly on the couch. "Are you done with your work? I saw Mr. Wells
leave just now."
Charles nodded and strolled over, his long strides bringing him to her side. He sat down and took her hand in his, giving it a gentle squeeze. "What are you watching?" "Oh, just something random-a comedy. Want to watch it with me?"
"Sure," Charles murmured, kissing her forehead. They settled in together on the couch, with Noelle resting her head against Charles' arm. Her eyes were glued to the screen. en FindNovel
Charles, however, kept his gaze on her. Every time she chuckled at the scenes his expression softened. After a while, he asked quietly, "Why don't you call Aunt Nancy and invite her over?" en FindNovel
Noelle blinked in surprise and sat up, glancing at him. "Aunt Nancy? Just her?"
Charles smiled knowingly and pinched her nose gently. "You catch on quick."
Noelle grinned. "Is Steven going to see Aunt Nancy?"
Charles shook his head. "No, it's not Steven this time."
"Then who?" Noelle asked, puzzled. Aside from Steven, she could not think of anyone in Brookville who would want to meet Nancy, let alone need Charles' involvement. Charles' smile deepened. "Peter."
Realization dawned on Noelle. "It's because of Tania, isn't it?" She smacked her forehead lightly. How could she forget?
