Chapter 816
Truth be told, Peter had been on an endless search for her, never once taking a break during all these years. Charles had seen it all, which was why he had agreed to lend a hand. Tania was not just some girl. She was his so-called sister, the apple of his uncle and aunt's eye. Noelle's eyes widened in surprise. "So, he's been searching for Tania all this time?" She smacked her forehead. "I should've seen that coming. Otherwise, Charles wouldn't have offered to help out."
Charles might come off as a bit of a distant figure, but Noelle knew better. Underneath that reserved exterior was a heart of gold, especially when it came to his loved ones. To Charles, Peter and Tania were practically family.
"So, what's the game plan? Convincing your uncle and aunt won't be a walk in the park, right? Tania is their daughter, and they still haven't cleared up that old misunderstanding with Peter."
"I'm thinking of approaching my aunt first." Charles said.
Noelle nodded in agreement. "Your aunt does seem more approachable, but is she up for this, with her health?"
"Don't sweat it. She's tougher than we give her credit for, but we've got to keep this under wraps from my uncle for now. He wasn't exactly Peter's biggest fan back in the day. Imagine if his long-lost kid, who he should be showering with love, ends up getting hurt by the Lennon family."
"Wait, is that why Collosus Group hasn't worked with Lennon Group for years?" Noelle ventured a guess.
A chuckle escaped Charles. "My uncle can be all stern and serious, but he's got his quirks. If this makes him feel better, then why not?"
Talk about being a kid at heart!
Noelle was at a complete loss for words, finding the whole thing more funny than anything else. Then, Charles dropped another bombshell. "You know, Peter isn't as hung up on the Lennon Group as everyone thinks. They all assume that's his endgame, but it's not."
"Wait, how do you know that?" Noelle asked.
Charles grinned, clearly amused by Noelle's baffled look. "What if I told you Peter's got his own gig, and it's big enough to gobble up Lennon Group?"
Noelle was speechless.
Shaking his head, Charles added, "Peter's done a ton for Tania. That's reason enough for me to back him up."
The next morning, Milo was up before the sun. He had spent a restless night in the hotel, rolling around in bed. Charles had promised to release Janet, but Milo didn't buy it for a second. He did not trust Charles one bit.
However, with his back against the wall, he had no choice but to play along.
Milo remembered all too well the stunt Charles pulled three years back. He had pegged him as a naive kid, but somehow, he had managed to rattle the Baker family's iron grip on Capiton.
Thinking about all that gave Milo a headache. Recently, things had been piling up for him. Jonathan from the Sanders Group at Harborpoint still refused to give in, while Jace was making big moves at home. Then, unexpectedly, the Hoffman family from Brookville also started taking action. Even though Milo had been confident in his plans, he could not help but wonder if he had made a misstep somewhere, leading to the current situation.
The past few days had been a barrage of calls from the Baker family, with Sir Baker's persistent son on the other end, demanding that Milo fix everything and bring Janet home.
However, Sir Baker had no idea that
Milo's hands were tied. He had not been able to find anyone who could untangle that knot. Charles's reach was far more extensive than Milo had ever given him credit for. Three years had passed, and Charles had only grown more dangerous.
