Chapter 813
Upon hearing that, Milo's expression froze. He had not expected to be at a disadvantage so soon. Whenever he tried to be indirect with Charles, Charles would play the same game but even better. Milo could not figure out where Charles got that trait, but one thing was certain it was far from endearing.
Milo could not just admit it. He would give up his last bit of leverage if he admitted Janet was sick. That was a no-go.
Charles was as cool as a cucumber since he was not the one needing a favor. He was curious to see how far Milo would go for Janet.
He had always pegged Milo as a calculative man. Janet was his first love's child from a fling with another guy. Despite her having her mom's knockout looks, her illness was a hard fact.
Charles brewed some coffee and checked the time. "Uncle, shouldn't you be visiting my mom instead of hanging out here and wasting time?"
Milo was barely controlling his rage. "Spill it. What's your game?"
Charles just cracked a smile. "You're making a mountain out of a molehill, Uncle. You know I'm not up to anything."
Milo inhaled deeply, trying to stay calm. "I need to see Janet."
"Uncle, if you want to see your daughter, just go. Why come to me? I'm confused!" Charles slid a cup of coffee Milo's way. "Aren't you making this harder than it has to be?"
"Let's cut to the chase. Janet's had
an episode, and she's in the hospital, but they won't let me see her. That's your handiwork, right?" Milo was livid. "She's your sister, for crying out loud How can you do her dirty like that?" , FindNovel

Charles looked up, unfazed. "Why are you getting so worked up, Uncle?"
Milo finally lost his cool, and that was when Charles set his coffee cup down, leaned back, and casually tapped the table like he had all the time in the world. "What's wrong with Janet? I have no clue. If you don't believe me..." "Cut it out," Milo snapped, slamming his coffee cup down with a glare. "I'm taking Janet out of Brookville!"
Charles let out a soft laugh. "Ah, so you've come to bring your daughter home!" It clicked, and he smiled. "That's great news. Ms. Baker has been away for too long. It's not good for herto be out and about all the time. As the Baker family's treasured daughter, she should be cared for at home. It wouldn't be good if she got into trouble and word got out."
Milo's face twitched at the words. "You're right. I'm planning to take Janet back to Capiton tomorrow!"
Charles nodded. "That's the best
course of action. Since you care so
much about Ms. Baker, I'll help out however can. You must be exhausted from the past few days. Why not head back and rest? HI send word as soon as I have an update!"
Charles clearly felt relieved. Things had not gone exactly as planned, but at least Milo would take Janet back for now, and that was a win.
"Alright. I'll be waiting for your good news, Charles."
Charles nodded, stood up, and grabbed his coat. "I won't neglect your concerns, but you do know this is Brookville, not Capiton. Some things here..."
"Don't worry. I'll make sure she's under strict watch when we get back!" Milo's face was a storm of anger and his veins were popping, but he was holding it in with all he had. "Janet's not a troublemaker, you know!"
