The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains

Chapter 94 Scarlett's Aftermath

"What did you say? Right now?"

"Yeah, move out now!"

Abigail, still half-asleep at work, was in a total daze.

But the second she saw Emily's video call, she snapped awake and started firing off questions.

"Are you really giving up? Are you and Michael really done? Emily, are you sure? You like him so much, you must be feeling awful."

Emily sighed. "I'm hanging up."

"Don't! I won't say anything. Do you really think I'm upset about your breakup? That damn..."

Realizing she was in public and couldn't mention Michael's name, Abigail quickly changed her tone and mumbled, "Sure, you should stay far away from him! Just tell me what you need, and I'll handle it!" Seeing Emily was serious, Abigail straightened up, widened her eyes, and listened carefully.

"There's not much. You go to work first, and after, help me move all my stuff out of Emerald Lake Manor."

"What about you?" Abigail asked.

"I need to find a place to stay. I can't sleep on the streets!"

Abigail then bombarded her with questions before getting to the main point.

"Do you have enough money? I haven't had much work lately, so I can't help you out much, Emily. But I just got paid, so you can use it for now!" Hearing this, Emily smiled faintly. "Then I won't be polite."

"Why be polite with me! Alright, you go ahead and get busy. Leave the moving to me!" The call ended, and Abigail's cheerful voice abruptly stopped. Along with it, Emily's hard-won smile faded.

She looked at the half-empty closet in front of her, feeling indescribable.

But at this moment, she finally understood that some pain needs to be stopped in time.

When Emily left Emerald Lake Manor, she only carried a handbag.

She just took a bit longer to leave than usual.

Ava noticed but didn't think much of it.

She didn't even notice Emily's lingering expression.

Of course, after living there for three years, Emily would naturally feel a bit reluctant to leave suddenly. "Ava."

Hearing Emily call her, Ava hurried out of the kitchen.

"Are you hungry for breakfast? Mrs. Smith, you didn't eat much earlier. Why not have some before you go?" Emily smiled knowingly at her words.

To be honest, Ava was the last bit of warmth Emily felt at Emerald Lake Manor.

This bit of warmth was like the last hope, the reason she kept convincing herself to return to Emerald Lake Manor.

"I'm really full. I don't need to eat more."

"Alright, Mrs. Smith, it's raining today. Be careful when you go out and remember to take an umbrella. I'll prepare hot water for you later so you can take a hot bath when you get back." A hot bath?

She probably wouldn't be coming back here again.

This place was about to change owners, wasn't it?

Thinking of this, Emily couldn't help but feel a pang of bitterness.

She held back the sourness in her nose, shook her head, and hurried out the door, leaving behind a simple "no need."

'No need? She usually takes a hot bath when she gets home. Is she not coming back today?' Ava couldn't figure out what was up with Emily. 'Maybe she's just in a bad mood. Who wouldn't be after an early morning argument?' But Ava had no clue that Emily was planning to move out of Emerald Lake Manor.

Time flew by, and soon it was afternoon.

The weather had cleared up, but the Smith family mansion was still gloomy.

Mason had gathered all the servants early in the morning, grilling them one by one.

He was determined to get to the bottom of the weird stuff that happened last night.

Mason rarely laid down the law, but when he did, he meant business.

With Benjamin's help, they were super efficient.

In no time, they had questioned most of the servants, and a few had even spilled some clues.

This freaked some people out.

"Come here! You took the money, so stop pretending!"

Scarlett twisted a maid's ear and threw her against the wall.

The maid looked around nervously. Luckily, this was a rarely used storeroom. Scarlett had arranged for the maid to work here, so even if Benjamin's people searched, it would take a while to find this place.

As for the maid, she was pretty ordinary.

Benjamin probably didn't even know she existed.

Thinking this, Scarlett's tense heart relaxed a bit.

The maid pleaded, "Mrs. Smith, I really won't say anything. Please let me go, please!"

Seeing Scarlett's fierce demeanor, the maid was immediately terrified, tears streaming down her face, her whole body trembling.

Scarlett, afraid that her crying would attract Benjamin's people, slapped her a few times.

"Shut up! Stop crying! I'm not here for your loyalty. I'm here to tell you to resign. Of course, you can't resign right now. That would be too suspicious. I'll come up with a reason. You can pretend you made a mistake and got fired. I'll still pay you. How about that?"

She was too young.

Scarlett was really afraid that with Mason and Benjamin's methods, she would spill everything in a few words.

What if she implicated Scarlett?

"Mistake? What mistake?" The maid cowered against the wall, trembling, afraid that Scarlett would slap her again. The stinging pain was truly torturous.

"Just some petty theft. I wouldn't really make it impossible for you to find work in the future! Also, I remember you said you have a younger brother in school, right?"

Hearing this, the maid looked up in shock.

Seeing Scarlett's malicious smile, her tears fell again.

Scarlett shouted, "I told you to stop crying. I can't stand your pitiful tears. Who are you trying to fool?"

The maid immediately took a deep breath, forcing her tears back.

But her whole body kept trembling, slumped on the ground, clearly terrified.

"You're so stupid! I'm just saying, if you take the money and do as I say, I won't trouble your brother. In a moment, I'll take you to Mr. Smith. Once he sees you, you can leave the Smith family."

As she spoke, Scarlett leaned closer to the maid, her smile turning sinister.

"Be smart. Don't expose me, or I'll come after you."
