The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains

Chapter 78 Plotting the Car Accident

Emily was still reeling from Michael's words. She kept replaying his gentle, caring tone in her head. It was something she had always dreamed of, but now, it just didn't make her happy. There were too many problems between them. She took a deep breath, remembering that Michael said he'd come over for dinner tonight. That thought made her feel a bit better.

After a night out at the club, Sophia had way too much to drink. The next day, she went to the Smith Corporation to find Michael, but he wasn't there. She bumped into Andrew as he was coming out of the elevator. "Where's Mr. Smith?" Sophia asked.

Andrew replied, "Mr. Smith went to the hospital to see Mrs. Smith this morning."

Sophia's face twisted with anger. "He hasn't come back yet?"

Andrew shook his head.

Sophia left, feeling dazed. Was this really the end for her and Michael? Sitting in her white car, she didn't bother turning on the lights, letting the darkness consume her. She felt like she was about to lose control. Her face contorted with rage. "Damn Emily, Michael is mine. You'll never take him away from me." With that thought, a crazy idea popped into her head. She started the car and sped out of the garage.

The night wind whipped past her ears as Sophia drove, her eyes filled with malice and hatred. The thought of Michael being with Emily drove her mad.

At first, everything seemed normal, but as she took a sharp turn, her vision darkened. She yanked the steering wheel, causing the car to veer off the road and crash into the guardrail. The impact threw her forward, only to be yanked back by the seatbelt.

After the initial shock and pain, Sophia sat in the car for a long time until she heard someone shouting outside, "Miss, are you okay? Are you conscious?"

Sophia forced a smile, letting her tears fall. She pulled out her phone and called Michael.

Michael was having dinner with Emily when his phone rang. Emily saw it was Sophia calling and turned away, pretending not to notice. Michael frowned and hung up, but the phone kept ringing.

Finally, Emily, annoyed, said, "Can you just answer it? It's so annoying." Seeing Emily's irritation, Michael sighed and picked up the phone. He stood up immediately after answering. "Are you hurt?"

Michael walked out with his phone, not even explaining to Emily. She thought he had left, but a minute later, he returned, looking urgent. "I have something to deal with. You eat your dinner, and I'll come back to join you later." Emily didn't say anything, and his phone rang again. This time, he answered quickly. Sophia's tearful voice came through, "I'm so scared, Michael. Please come quickly."

Michael's brow furrowed, and he said urgently, "I'm on my way." He left in a hurry, not even glancing at Emily. Ava, watching Michael leave, tried to make excuses for him. "Mrs. Smith, Mr. Smith, he..." Emily stopped Ava. "Ava, just clear the table. I'm done."

"But Mr. Smith, he..."

Emily sighed, lowering her eyes. "He won't be back tonight. No need to make excuses for him, Ava. Just clear it."

Ava glanced at the door and sighed, starting to clear the table silently. She thought Michael really didn't know what was important. Emily was still in the hospital; how could he just leave like that? Emily said softly, "Ava, I have a nurse here. You don't need to come tomorrow. It's too much trouble for you to keep coming back and forth."

Ava immediately protested, "No way, Mr. Mason Smith specifically instructed me. And Mr. Mason Smith also told Mr. Michael Smith to take care of you in the hospital. Mr. Mason Smith was very worried about you. He even called Mr. Michael Smith back and scolded him."

Emily knew Ava was speaking on behalf of Michael. She smiled and said, "Then thank Grandpa for me."

Emily thought it made sense why Michael insisted on staying in the hospital this time, having meals with her and staying all day. It turned out Mason had told him to do so. But she didn't care about any of that. She just wanted to recover quickly and get "Lucky" back.

Mason was eager to match her with Michael, but she found it repulsive, and Michael was even more eager for a divorce. Emily just felt that she would disappoint Mason's efforts. She didn't understand why Mason was so insistent. Emily thought for a moment and said, "Ava, don't tell Grandpa about Michael leaving. I don't want him to worry."

Mason was getting on in years, and Emily feared that his anger would give him a heart stroke if he found out. And she didn't want Michael to get the wrong idea that she would go to Mason to complain.

Ava sighed at Emily's understanding and silently cursed Michael again. Emily was such a good person, and Michael was blind to prefer that wretched woman.

When Michael arrived, Sophia had already opened the car door herself and was sitting by the roadside. There were traffic police handling the accident. Michael saw Sophia sitting on the steps, silently crying. He also saw that the car had crashed into the guardrail, the front dented. He looked her and the car over and was relieved that it wasn't too serious.

Seeing Michael, Sophia immediately scrambled to her feet and rushed over, throwing herself in his arms. Michael was pushed back a couple of steps by her force. He reached out to hold her and said, "Alright, are you okay?" Sophia, with a sobbing voice, said, "Michael, I'm fine. But I'm so scared. I thought I'd never see you again."

Michael frowned. "Don't overthink it. It's just a minor accident. I'll handle it."

He separated them and put Sophia in his car. "Rest for a bit. I'll talk to the police."

Sophia, seemingly still in shock, held onto his hand, unwilling to let him go. Michael patted her shoulder and comforted, "It's okay. Everything's fine now."

Sophia watched him, then silently sat in the car. She watched Michael walk towards the police, and felt reassuring seeing his figure. Every move he made was etched in her mind like a brand. He was so elegant and gentle. How could she be willing to give such a man to Emily?
