The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains

Chapter 105 A Strong Embrace

Veda was doing alright now.

But Michael...

Emily felt a bit uneasy facing the aloof Michael.

She walked into the bedroom with a bowl of soup.

She figured Michael would be lying in bed, all down and out, waiting for her salvation like Veda. After all, they were both at their lowest, and she thought he'd be easy to talk to.

Then she could reason with him, tug at his heartstrings, and Michael would be super grateful. Maybe, in a good mood, he'd drink a few more bowls of soup and flash her a few more smiles.

And he wouldn't seem so annoying.

But to her surprise, as soon as she walked in, she saw Michael had already showered, his upper body bare, sitting by the bed and applying medicine to himself! Yeah, last night Mason's cane had left a long, deep scar on his back.

The whole Scarlett thing ended too late, and Michael had refused to let anyone into his room.

So Emily hadn't called the family doctor to help with the dressing.

She'd been worried about it. But Michael had taken care of it himself!

Hearing the door, Michael looked over and saw Emily coming in with the soup.

He instinctively swallowed and paused what he was doing.

'This bowl of soup must be for me, right? Does she still resent me? How could she not? She was terribly frightened that night,' Michael thought.

Thinking of this, Michael hesitated, and both of them felt awkward.

Emily broke the silence first. "Are you okay? How about I help you?"

Saying this, Emily handed the bowl of soup to Michael.

Michael didn't refuse, raised his hand to take it, and handed the cotton swab to Emily.

They moved in sync, one turning around, the other sitting down.

Michael's back faced Emily, the scar was very noticeable, and it startled her.

Maybe noticing the lack of movement behind him, Michael thought of something, drank the soup in one gulp, and said directly, "It doesn't hurt much, go ahead and apply the medicine." Emily felt that Michael had suddenly become very gentle.

It might just be an illusion.

After all, so much had happened overnight.

Learning that his mother had shown her true malicious nature, and knowing that she had been using him all along, how could he feel good?

Michael must be feeling really bad right now.

So she should say less and try to go along with him.

Thinking this, Emily nodded gently, carefully applying the medicine to Michael's back with the cotton swab, her movements very gentle.

For a moment, Michael's face showed a hint of surprise.

Then, he inexplicably smiled.

Yeah, no wonder Mason always said that a man should settle down, have a wife, and enjoy a comfortable life.

Now, Michael truly understood the value of those words.

Compared to his rough and clumsy actions, which often accidentally touched the painful wound, Emily's application of the medicine made him feel a bit of indescribable comfort. "Does this hurt?" Emily asked cautiously.

"No." Michael answered almost instantly, but after thinking for a moment, he added, his eyes flickering, "Apply a bit more medicine, I want it to heal faster."

Hearing this, Emily didn't think much, just nodded and continued to apply the medicine carefully.

She even unconsciously blew on it gently, making Michael feel that Emily was very gentle.

"Your wound is pretty bad. Why did you still take a bath?" Emily asked, looking at Michael's slightly inflamed wound, feeling a bit worried.

When would Michael start taking better care of himself?

"I haven't been to the office in days. I need to check in, or I won't feel right," Michael replied.

Emily didn't respond and continued applying the medicine for him, but Michael couldn't hold back. "Are you leaving?"

Emily didn't react immediately; her hand paused subconsciously.

Michael didn't want to push it, so he changed the subject, trying to keep her around.

He didn't want Emily to leave the Smith family anymore.

"My mom probably won't come back, and Veda can't handle anything. Can you..." Michael started.

Before he could finish, Emily cut him off. "Of course, I should do that."

Michael continued, "What about your place?"

Emily paused, then quickly thought of a solution. "It's fine, the rent there is super cheap. It doesn't matter if I don't stay there for a few days."

Michael breathed a sigh of relief and said, "The money I gave you, make sure to use it. You deserve it."

Emily finished applying the medicine, blew on it again, and responded, "I know."

"You don't know. If you did, why didn't you say anything about what my mom did to you?" Michael turned around, and despite his concern and anxiety for Emily, he wore a sullen expression, questioning her bluntly. Emily didn't want to argue with Michael about his attitude.

She lowered her eyes, looking indifferent. "What's there to say? Everyone would lose face."

"So you just let her bully you? Don't you know what she's like? If she fails this time, there will be a next time. Do you really think I can always be there for you? Emily, can you take some responsibility for yourself! Stop causing problems that make me worry!" Michael meant well, but his words came out as a command.

This made Emily very uncomfortable. She felt she had already accommodated Michael and the Smith family a lot.

Why were they never satisfied?

Why was everything she did wrong!

In an instant, Emily's grievances surged.

She stood up, glaring at Michael, trying to see what was so good about Michael that made her love him so deeply for so many years!

"I make you worry? I cause problems? Michael, can you stop being so hurtful with your words?"

"I never treated your mom and Veda badly despite their harsh words to me, and I never spoke harshly to you despite what you did to me. Isn't that enough?"

"Your mom treated me like that; why didn't I say anything? Because I remember how good your grandpa was to me, I care about the Smith family, I care about your reputation! Is that enough!"

As she shouted, tears welled up in Emily's eyes.

But this time, the tears flowed out, making Michael's heart ache.

Seeing Emily about to leave, Michael couldn't help but pull her into his arms.

"Michael, what are you doing!" Emily tried to struggle, but she couldn't match Michael's strength. "Michael, let me go, you..."

Once again, their soft lips met unexpectedly. Emily's eyes widened, looking at the engrossed Michael, she was stunned.
