The Cellar City Chronicles

Chapter 42: She Finally Leaves

Giselle grinned at Useless as he reclaimed his seat. His hands were busy fidgeting with the hem of his shirt as she eyed him.

She liked how uncomfortable he was. That meant she still had power over him.

She liked that.

“Useless.”

He jerked as if slapped, eyes coming up to meet hers.

Giselle couldn’t help but chuckle. “Relax. I won’t bite. Unless you want me to.” She licked her lips, and his eyes dropped.

She reveled in it for just a moment before leaning forward and clasping her hands between her knees. She knew how much of her cleavage was visible. That was the point.

“Useless, I might need you for something.”

Useless nodded hesitantly.

“I have to take care of something for the big guy. Something that will make both of us look really good, do you understand?”

Useless glanced quickly at her face and nodded.

Giselle smiled. “I’m going to run some errands tonight. Do you have a license? Can you drive?”

Useless nodded.

“Good. I’m going to need someone to drive me around. Tonight. I can get you a car. I can pick you up.”

“Where?”

Giselle blinked. So he was speaking now? She smiled cruelly. “Do you really want to know?”

Useless nodded.

Giselle laughed. “Look at you, free thinker!” She shook her head and patted him on the knee. “We’re going to take care of something that’s been bothering the boss. I’m going to stop these little incidents that keep happening at Mr. Jones’ clubs.”

“You… know where he is?”

Giselle shrugged. She gazed at him with narrowed eyes. She could see the sheen of sweat on his brow – poor baby it must be taking so much effort to speak for himself. “So will you later tonight.”

Useless fidgeted in his seat. “I… I need a job. That pays me.”

Giselle giggled, putting a hand up to her lips. “What an entrepreneur! Of course I’m going to pay you, Useless. In fact, how about half now?”

Giselle snapped open her purse and pulled out a stack of 20 Credit Notes, dropping them haphazardly on the table. “There are one thousand Credits there. Enough for you?”

Useless’s eyes bulged. “But – “

Giselle leaned forward and rubbed his knee. She cooed soothingly at him. “Don’t you worry. Giselle wouldn’t let you starve. I’ll find a use for you yet. Are we on?”

Useless didn’t take his eyes from the money. Giselle felt a slight tick itch at her jaw and she slowly started to move her hand up his thigh, eyes narrowing in menace at his silence.

“Useless?”

“Y-yes!” Useless stammered, leaning back in his chair, terrified at the appendage creeping up his leg. “Yes. I’ll do it. W-what time?”

Giselle removed her hand and snapped her purse shut. She languidly rose to her feet and sighed contentedly. “I’ll pick you up at ten.”

Useless nodded.

No more questions. That was good. Giselle could have picked any one of Martin’s body guards – but they were all just a bit too smart to go along dumbly. Useless was perfect. He wouldn’t go running to anyone, especially if she threatened to seduce him. The thought made her grin.

“I’ll get you one day, Useless. When you just can’t resist.” Giselle leaned down and planted a kiss on his worry-wrinkled forehead. She let her hair tickle his face before she sauntered to the door with a laugh.

Not a sound followed Giselle out of Useless’s apartment. Not a sound except for the clicking of her heels and her own pleased humming.

I’m coming for you. I’m coming to kill you, you psycho fuck.
