The Brilliant Mrs. Windsor by Jasmine Joy

Chapter 22

Chapter 22: Preparing

Medicine for Master

Windsor

Alexander’s gaze fixed on the

blood–stained handkerchief in Master

Windsor’s hand, a shadow of concern passing over his features.

It seemed his grandfather’s condition was far worse than he had anticipated.

Master Windsor had his own private physician, a former military medic from his unit, who had been taken in to live at the mansion upon retirement.

The servant quickly fetched the

doctor, and Alexander pulled him

aside, displaying a rare moment of unrest.

“Mr. Hawthorne, what exactly is wrong with my grandfather?”

Barnaby Hawthorne sighed softly, casting a discreet glance towards Master Windsor before lowering his

voice.

“Mr. Alexander, to be frank, Master Windsor’s condition is much more severe than I initially thought. His years of combat left him with numerous injuries. Though they seemed inconsequential at the time, they’ve since developed into serious

health issues.”

“Is there really nothing your medical skills can do?” Alexander’s brows furrowed even more deeply.

Though Hawthorne was originally a military medic, he had been renowned

doctor even before enlisting.

as a top

His medical expertise was considered among the best in Riverdale. If even he

was at a loss, what hope was there for Master Windsor?

As they discussed Master Windsor’s condition, Isabella couldn’t help feeling a pang of concern.

Despite her disdain for Alexander, she

genuinely respected the old man. She had heard of Master Windsor’s

military achievements and felt

saddened that such a venerable general was now plagued by illness.

Noticing the worry in Isabella’s eyes, Master Windsor offered a dismissive

smile, taking her hand with the warmth of a kindly elder.

‘My dear Isabella, there’s no need to worry about this old soldier. I’ve faced life and death on the battlefield; I’ve

long since made peace with my mortality. Seeing Alexander find a good woman like you brings me comfort.

Isabella listened to Master Windsor’s words, which sounded almost like a farewell, feeling an unexpected surge

of emotion that made her nose tingle.

Without thinking, she blurted out, “Master Windsor, you’ll be okay.”

Master Windsor smiled and shook his head, his grip on Isabella’s hand tightening as if fearing she might disappear the next moment. “There’s no need to comfort me. I know the state of my own body.”

Taking a deep breath, as if steeling herself, Isabella said, “Let me take a

look then. I know a bit about medicine.

Let me take your pulse.”

Master Windsor, indulging her,

extended his hand with a smile,

treating the gesture as if humoring a child’s play.

The pulse was irregular, but Isabella quickly identified the root causes of his ailments: residual effects from old

injuries compounded by recent stress over Alexander’s matters, all of which

had taken a toll on his body.

“Master Windsor, let me prepare some medicine for you.”

“Alright, alright. If it’s made by my granddaughter–in–law, I’d drink it even if it were poison,” Master Windsor agreed readily, his gaze never leaving Isabella. He didn’t care if Isabella truly knew medical practices; he was simply playing along with her.

Meanwhile, Mr. Hawthorne and

Alexander, having overheard Isabella’s

offer, were hesitant.

As Master Windsor’s personal

physician, Mr. Hawthorne naturally

opposed the idea of letting an outsider

prepare medicine for him.

Given Master Windsor’s high status,

even his daily routines were

meticulously managed by trusted insiders, and his meals were prepared by a dedicated chef.

The sudden appearance of this young woman, offering to brew medicine for Master Windsor, was understandably met with resistance.
