Chapter 15: The baby's father
Leon was outwardly assertive but internally restless. Ever since hearing Mr. Roberts mention Sara's pregnancy, memories of that night flooded his mind. He wasn't sure if Sara remembered, but he had always remembered. He called Mark to get Sara's phone number but was hesitant. He wanted to resolve everything once and for all, desiring no entanglements with the Roberts family.
The phone rang unanswered, leaving Leon with no choice but to drive straight to her villa. He watched from outside but saw no sign of Sara, waiting until the evening darkened. Finally, he took a risk and sneaked in.
Sara was exhausted from recent events, and her pregnancy only increased her fatigue. She soaked in warm water, relaxing her muscles, and the warm embrace of the bath soothed her. Her alluring curves visible under the delicate water surface were irresistibly captivating.
With soft music playing, Sara slowly closed her eyes, submerging her head under the water, wishing to think of nothing. Her soul drifted into the serene void, relaxing her body.
Later, Sara, wrapped in a bath towel, stepped out. She dried her wet hair, her slender fingers weaving through the strands, scattering droplets. Unbeknownst to her, someone was watching her intently.
Suddenly, a man cleared his throat, startling her into turning around.
"Leon, why are you here?" Sara was baffled, unable to comprehend what was unfolding.
"I've been here before; have you forgotten?" Leon gave a bitter smile.
"Get out of here now. Trespassing is against the law," Sara, putting down the hairdryer, pointed angrily towards the door and shouted.
"I don't recall you ever being like this. Why so hot-tempered today?" Leon continued to tease, making Sara feel belittled. Despite being let down by Leon, she still had her dignity, and being scorned by a man she once truly loved was deeply painful.
"What brings you here today?" Sara looked straight into Leon's deep eyes, demanding an answer.
"The father of the child."
Sara laughed loudly. You knew how to be detestable. She was at a loss for words before this bizarre man. He had once wanted to cut ties, wanted her to disappear from his life, and had done everything to push her away, and now he was here claiming the child in her womb as his own. Leon was incomprehensible; his nerves must have been frayed over the past four years.
"Do you even realize the absurdity of what you're saying? Do you know how people have children? Have we ever shared a bed?"
"Yes," Leon asserted firmly, stepping closer to Sara's beautiful face.
Sara laughed, her eyes sparkling with confusion as she pushed Leon away, indignant.
"That's impossible. You're lying."
"No, the person you spent that night in the hotel was me."
Sara staggered backward, her legs trembling. She didn't know how to process this incredible turn of events. How could such a coincidence exist? The Leon standing before her was no longer the man she once adored but now cold, oppressive, and repeatedly hurtful. She didn't want to see him anymore.
Leon grasped Sara's shoulders, forcing her to look at him, his voice cold as he splashed a harsh reality on her.
"I never thought you were this kind of person. Is this how you want to sleep, men, no matter who they are? If it hadn't been me that night but someone else, you would've been just as passionate. Is this the Sara I knew? So promiscuous that you'd sleep with anyone without even caring for their name?" Leon's scornful words twisted Sara's heart painfully.
"Is the child yours?" An angry shout shattered the quiet. Sara's force made Leon release his grip.
"You blame me? You recognized me initially, yet why did you leave money before leaving? Do you consider me as a prostitute? If that's the case, why claim a child born of a lowly whore?" Sara cried bitterly, and all her pent-up grievances were finally voiced. She had always searched for the man who left money and disappeared, never expecting it to be Leon.
"Oh, that's right, you wouldn't want any entanglements with me. So, if you're saying the child is indeed yours, you'd have me get an abortion, wouldn't you?" Sara stepped back, pointing at Leon, "Let me tell you, it's my child alone; you have no say in it."
"Sara, I don't believe it," Leon aggressively moved forward, embracing Sara tightly, making her scream in discomfort. "Let go! Let me go!"
"I won't let go."
"Leon, let me tell you, you're not the only one in my life," Sara whispered into his ear in resignation, driving Leon to despair. His hands trembled as they gradually released her, his eyes darkening as if he had just heard his fortune collapse. "So, have you understood now? Who do you think you are? Men chase after me in droves; do I not have the right to like them? They are a hundred thousand times better than you." Sara laughed through her pain, finally learning to hurt others just as Leon once did.
At this moment, standing before Sara, Leon was nothing but a defeated wretch. He had hoped the baby would bind them together again, but everything he had just heard left him utterly disillusioned. Leon silently thought; it turns out Sara had long forgotten him and was with another man, while he stubbornly thought she still loved him. Their once pure and beautiful love affair continued to wither. Seeing the disdain in Sara's eyes towards him, Leon realized his arrogance and overconfidence had led to this day. He wouldn't have been so profoundly hurt if he had decisively refused that night. Despondently leaving the villa late into the night, Leon drove swiftly through the streets. The road stretched endlessly before him as Leon tore through the night alone, unaware of where his journey would end.
