The Apple of My Eye

Chapter 2146 You Couldn't Trust Him

After a while, Charles finally seemed to break loose from whatever trance he was in.

He looked up slowly, but his eyes seemed to wander around. Nobody knew what he was looking at. Vicky, who was standing close to him, was trying to observe his behavior. Finally, she had the courage to ask him, "Charles, what's wrong?"

"Have you found the person?" Charles asked, finally meeting her gaze.

Seeing that Charles didn't want to talk about himself, Vicky answered him immediately, "Yes, I found him. He promised me that he would do me a favor."

"Good. Make an appointment with him. I'll bring him here in the evening."

"Okay!" Vicky agreed but hesitated. "If we fail to deceive Rob this time, then Clark's poison will be..."

"I won't let that happen!" Charles interrupted her. He did not need to say any more. Putting his hand in his pocket, Charles turned around and walked away. Seeing him leave, Vicky was dumbfounded for a while. Part of her still did not want to believe what Charles said without any reason.

But he knew that he wouldn't let anything happen to Clark. He will find a way. He would make this work!

Sheryl and Melissa had stayed and watched Clark in the ward for a while. When he woke up, his body returned to normal, and he finally stopped crying.

Seeing that Clark was okay, Sheryl felt glad. She had cooked a bowl of porridge for him earlier and placed it in front of her son to dig in.

Sheryl wasn't expecting he would have a pretty good appetite. Watching from her seat, Sheryl felt accomplished that Clark seemed to have liked what she had prepared. He ate the bowl of porridge quickly, with not a single drop left. Seeing that, Melissa was also pleased. She grinned from ear to ear, wondering whether Clark had already recovered without taking any medicine.

"Clark, do you still feel any pain now?" Melissa couldn't help asking.

Clark shook his head and was about to answer when he suddenly felt something. His little face started to wrinkle.

"My head aches..." He muttered vaguely. Both Melissa and Sheryl couldn't make out the rest of his words. Clark began to roll on the bed with his hands over his head, his face showing both pain and horror. Sheryl's heart skipped a beat at the sight of it. She tried pulling Clark into her arms, making sure he wouldn't hurt himself. His hands were still over his head while he shouted in pain.

"Clark, calm down. Clark..." Sheryl said repeatedly. Sheryl tried her best to comfort her son but also realized that he wouldn't act crazily if the pain was bearable. She knew Clark, and he was not a crybaby. Sheryl could feel her heart breaking as she held onto Clark, desperately trying to calm him down.

Melissa was taken aback by the scene, finally realizing that Clark's condition wasn't getting any better; instead, it got even worse.

She rushed to call the doctor but bumped into Charles and director Liu on her way out.

"Charles, hurry! Clark is sick again!" Melissa shouted, not wary of the other patients in the ward.

Upon hearing this, Charles' expression changed. He said to Director Liu, "You are right. He has been poisoned."

Director Liu nodded and walked into the ward with a serious face, Charles and Melissa following at his heel.

He saw Clark on the bed, holding his head in much pain, while Sheryl was bent over, putting her arms around him in an attempt to comfort the boy. Director Liu placed his medical kit on the side table and took out a vial of liquid and a syringe. Turning to Sheryl, he requested, "Mrs. Lu, try to control the child's body. I will give him a shot to temporarily relieve his pain."

Sheryl nodded in a hurry. She was unable to stop her tears from falling at seeing Clark was in pain. Following the doctor's advice, she exerted more effort in holding him still but also tried not to hold Clark too tight, fearing that she would hurt him in the process.

All of a sudden, he twisted, getting rid of Sheryl's grasp as the needle was stabbed into his arm.

The tiny needle was still in Clark's arm, but the doctor wasn't able to take it out, afraid that it might be broken into two pieces if he was not careful enough. Sheryl was startled. Before she could even react, Charles quickly stepped forward and held Clark's upper body to keep him still.

Director Liu seized the opportunity to keep injecting the rest of the medicine into Clark's body with Charles' help.

After it was over, Sheryl looked at her son's little body, tears rushing down her cheeks. The boy's body turned into a strange shape and then began to tremble. Shortly after all the medicine was absorbed, he began to struggle less until he finally calmed down.

"Clark, Clark..." Sheryl murmured his name in between sobs. Standing beside his bed, she could see how the little boy looked back at her before he slowly closed his eyes. Sheryl's face was full of grief, but she could only cry as she saw her son go through this horrific state.

At this moment, she couldn't feel anything more than hatred. Hatred to that vicious man who did this to Clark. How could anyone do such a vicious thing to a young child?

If she could have her way, she would want to kill that man now!

Holding onto Clark's little hand, Sheryl didn't let go until he finally lost consciousness. She looked at her son for a while. He was sleeping again, peacefully, with no trace of pain on his face anymore. Suddenly, she stood up and turned to Charles. "Where is he?" she asked.

Since she had been crying for a while, her eyes were red, like that of a wild beast. Her territory had been damaged, and she had to maintain her own territory.

Looking at Sheryl, Charles was speechless. He knew that Sheryl was acting like this because of Clark's condition. As a mother, she had to bear so much pressure. He could only imagine what she was feeling right now, but even his words might not be enough to describe Sheryl's grief.

But he couldn't tell Sheryl where he was keeping Rob imprisoned, no matter what the reason was.

Sheryl was very unstable at the

moment. Once she knew where Rob was, she would desperately go there. to find him and ask him about the antidote. Only heaven knew what Shery would do to get the answer out of that man. But how could they get Rob to talk when he

even afraid of rough torture?

not

If that happened, Sheryl might not be able to bear such a result, and her spirit would be more broken then.

Stretching out his arms, Charles reached out to hold Sheryl in his embrace. The latter was caught surprised. He then whispered in her ear, "Don't worry, Sheryl. I've thought of a way." Struggling in his arms, Sheryl tried to look up at him. "Are you serious? Do you know how to get the cure for Clark?" Sheryl's eyes were still watery, but she demanded the answer.

Charles nodded and said, "Yes. I'll get the antidote by tomorrow."

Sheryl gazed at Charles, searching for confirmation. She was willing to believe this man, and she was willing to put Clark's life in his hands, not because she had always loved him, but because he was Clark's father. A father who loved his son deeply would never deceive her.

Sheryl finally calmed down. "Okay, I believe you." Sheryl closed her eyes, leaning against Charles' chest. She could feet a teardrop fell down her cheek and onto Charles' shirt, but she didn't care. She felt tired, but his presence told her she could still would be over

soon.

Meanwhile, the elevator opened, and a man came rushing out. He walked past two doors before finally stopping in front of one of the hotel suites. Inside, Damian was walking back and forth anxiously. Suddenly, the doorbell rang. He didn't even seem surprised as he was expecting his visitor. He rushed to open the door and found Duke standing outside.

"Why are you looking for me in such a hurry?" Duke said discontentedly. He had been having a meeting with someone just now when Damian had called and asked him to come over. He was not even sure what the emergency was.

"Have you heard from Rob?" Damian asked anxiously.

"I have been trying to find him, but he seemed to have disappeared without a trace. I have already sought assistance from both the government and the underworld, but they still haven't heard any news," Duke answered, shaking his head.

The news made Damian more anxious. Something seemed to be very wrong by the looks of it. "What happened? That man promised to help me. Now Charles has woken up, and Sheryl is still with him. What about me? Sheryl is meant to be with me."

"Damian, I have something to say. Please don't hold it against me," Duke started.

"What is it?"

"Actually, I think Rob is unreliable,

and you are not even in the same boat. You shouldn't put your trust in him so much. What's more, you

don't even know his background et

What makes you so sure that he has not lied to you from the start? For all we know, he never really wanted to help you get Sheryl back, He just used you and your resources to destroy the Shining Company and Charles." Duke slowly analyzed,

seeing Damian was all ears.
