The Alpha Twins Rejection

Chapter Chapter Seven - Kane

It was just after dawn, and I had just finished speaking to Alpha Miller about our early arrival. The Bloodmoon Pack desired us to aid them with extra security for their annual Bloodmoon Ball, lending what warriors we could spare to help ensure the perimeter of their territory was secure from the threat of a rogue attack. Reluctantly we agreed to the invitation to attend and to offer added security detail. To be completely honest, my twin brother Rayne and I were not the least bit worried nor thrilled about helping them. We had more than enough of our own problems to be concerned with at present but were ultimately swayed by the number of unmated members of our pack, knowing we could not deny them the chance of finding their fated mate. Nor could we say that an alliance with such a large pack would be unwelcome or unnecessary. Bloodmoon’s size and strength were unmatched, their warriors fierce with a reputation that preceded them. An alliance with them would be beneficial for our smaller pack. Arriving in advance would also permit us ample time to check them out firsthand and to survey their vast territory at the very least. To suss them out, so to speak. I won’t lie, though; Rayne and I were also extremely curious about Alpha Miller’s Beta and daughter, Ashley too. Since we had taken over the reins as Alpha’s of the River Run Pack, we decided it would be worthwhile to extensively research the neighbouring wolf packs to learn everything we could about them, and the more we learned about Ashley, the more the she-wolf intrigued us. My brother and I appreciated fine women, and by all accounts, Ashley was extremely fine. I thought smugly, even if she did have a partner, it couldn’t hurt to check her out whilst in their territory. As far as I was concerned, she was still fair game since she was unmated. No she-wolf could resist our good looks and charm. “What are your thoughts about attending the Bloodmoon Ball, Kane,” I asked, trying for casual and failing miserably when he cocked an eyebrow at the stupid grin I couldn’t wipe off my face. I knew the answer but wanted to discuss it more with my brother. “I don’t particularly care for it but will certainly be content if some of our pack members find their fated mates”, Rayne replied, shrugging his broad shoulders. “Do you think we have a chance at finding our fated mates there,” I question seriously? The idea had Jax, my inner wolf, up and yipping excitedly in my head. He was eager to find our fated mate. “With the expected attendance of thousands of wolves, I’d say it increases the odds, don’t you think, brother” Rayne states with a grin. I smirk back, his words causing butterflies to take flight in the pit of my stomach at the thought of finding my mate. “After hearing the rumours of Alpha Miller’s daughter, Ashley, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t keen to attend. A twenty-four-year-old, unmated, skilled warrior could be a bit of fun if you know what I mean,” I say between mouthfuls of toast, wiggling my eyebrows suggestively in his direction. I could only imagine what getting a cougar like her between the sheets would be like. The thought had my dick hardening painfully in my jeans. “Beta Miller, you mean, don’t get overly familiar just yet, brother. She might kick your ass if you get too cocky. And I, for one, would love to see it”, Rayne teased smugly. I would have to have a chat with my dick and remind him that she was a renowned Beta who was a renowned warrior. I couldn’t keep thinking of her as a conquest or someone beneath me. Not only was she an Alpha’s daughter but also a Beta, for Christ’s sake. I already admired her and held a lot of respect for the woman. Belatedly I ponder Rayne’s last statement and let out a bellowing laugh, slapping my thigh in amusement. “She can try any time. I would relish the chance to spar with her,” I reply through tears of laughter. The thought of a woman, no matter how skilled, getting the better of me was hilarious. “I hear beta Miller is breathtaking. I wouldn’t be laughing if I were you, my dear boy. I have heard tales of her fighting skills and would not erroneously believe you could beat her if I were you, Kane”, our mother chimed in, flashing us a fond smile and a wink as she walked into the kitchen to join us for breakfast. “She is also taken, so off-limits, my darling boys. There will be other attractive women in attendance, no doubt.” She continued thoughtfully, sipping her morning coffee. Our mother was eager for us to find our fated mates and settle down. She wanted to semi-retire now that we had taken over running the pack and was keen for us to produce grandchildren for her to love and spoil. Children were the last thing on either of our minds, though. Rayne and I were only young and wanted to enjoy our lives for a while longer yet. “We have heard the whispers about Beta Ashley being in a relationship with her father’s Delta”, I snorted in response. “If she is as half as gorgeous as rumoured, I cannot wait to meet Delta Zac McMillan. He has apparently only recently turned eighteen like us,” Rayne exclaimed as he poured himself a second coffee. “They are playing with fire if you ask me, brother,” I say. “Both are high ranking, in the same pack and unmated. A recipe for disaster when the inevitable happens. If she were my mate, I would dispose of him quickly,” I continue. “Kane,” Mum counters in horror, nearly choking on her mouthful of food. “What? You know I have a problem with sharing”, I reply with a laugh. To be honest, my brother and I were enjoying being unmated Alphas. The line-up of she-wolves, unmated and mated, was never-ending, and we were enjoying them all. They all sought to please, wanting a shot at getting close to an Alpha and clawing their way to being Luna. I thought with a dark chuckle, who were we to rain on their parade? We didn’t promise them anything nor tell them we would choose our Luna’s. No, we wholeheartedly believed the Moon Goddess had our backs when it came to true mates and would simply enjoy ourselves until the time of their arrival in our lives.

After breakfast, we devoted the rest of the day immersed in tying up loose ends before our departure, not that our parents were incapable of running the pack while we were gone. We merely didn’t want to leave an unnecessary workload for them. We were heading off first thing tomorrow morning, driving to the Bloodmoon territory lines to meet our convoy escort, Delta McMillan. To say we were eager to meet him and see what the fuss was about was the understatement of the century.

Later that afternoon, there was a knock on the office door, a familiar, cloying scent wafting underneath it. “Eve and Jessica,” I whisper to Rayne as I lazily push my chair away from the large mahogany desk that I was working at, wondering what they required. They knew we were busy right now, getting ready to leave and should have been doing the same as they would be following us the next day to attend the ball as well. “Just a second”, I call out with mild annoyance, crossing the room swiftly to open the door. The sisters don’t hesitate to enter the office and stride in boldly, each touching me seductively as they walk by, making Jax’s hackles rise at their audacity to touch what is not theirs. They are becoming too familiar with us, the thought pissing me off. We were not in a relationship with either of them. We were simply passing the time in their company. If any other pack member had dared to touch us so brazenly, I wouldn’t hesitate to punish them. Severely. They were starting to push their boundaries, their intentions clear. We tolerated their touches as a means to an end, for now, I thought darkly. Their sickly, fake, eager to please attitude was starting to become unappealing.

“Want a quick break” I mind link Rayne with a tired smirk on my face. I didn’t feel like playing games today, but Jax hadn’t let up, so I thought I could use a distraction from his constant pacing and grumbling about finding our fated mate. Rayne and I both knew what the sisters wanted, and maybe the sooner we gave it to them, they would leave us to get ready. “Good afternoon, ladies”, Rayne spoke with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “To what do we owe the pleasure”. The sisters either didn’t hear the bored tone of his voice or didn’t care. “It IS a good afternoon indeed, Alpha Rayne, Alpha Kane,” Eve cooed, winking at her sister, who apparently couldn’t control her giggles. Eve looked me up and down appreciatively and then continued to walk over to where Rayne sat at his desk. She lowered herself slowly onto his lap, letting her ridiculously short skirt ride up her thighs shamelessly until it was bunched around her midsection, her bare pussy on full display, making me roll my eyes at her desperation. Jessica eyed her sister and Rayne, “I can see you two are busy,” she said with a laugh and grabbed the front of my shirt, leading me out of the office. “I will be back in ten minutes, Rayne”, I mind-linked with an exasperated laugh. “Don’t go making the paperwork sticky again like last time,” I continue, howling with laughter. “Haha, funny, wise guy”, he snarks back. “Just hurry up. We don’t have all day to mess about. We still have to ensure all loose ends are tied up before we leave”. Rayne adds on more seriously.

A nagging feeling inside me that feels like lead in my stomach replaces the usual sexual excitement as Jessica leads me down the hallway to one of the guest bedrooms in the packhouse. For once in his life, Jax is eerily silent, not wanting any part of the impending pleasure. Normally he would be going senseless with excitement inside me. “Everything ok, Buddy,” I ask him quizzically. “Why do you care what I think all of a sudden, Kane,” Jax spits with disdain. Whoa, where is this coming from, I think, recoiling at his bitter tone. “Hunter and I grow tired of you and Rayne being sluts. We want mate,” he continues sourly.

“We don’t think either of you is taking finding them seriously,” he snarls, retreating to the furthest depths of my mind. Well, that was different. Little shit. I wonder what’s gotten into him. I was too busy mulling over what Jax had said to notice that we had already entered the guest bedroom or the fact that Jessica was now on her knees with my limp cock in her hands. “Everything ok, Alpha Kane”, Jessica purrs; I must admit she looked a treat staring up at me through long lashes with my dick resting on her chin as she lazily runs her tongue over the tip. I didn’t bother responding. I grab her ponytail tightly in my fist and push her greedy, pouting mouth over my now semi-hard cock. Jax has royally pissed me off, I can barely suppress my rage over his tantrum, so I thrust as hard and fast as I can into her mouth, making her gag several times, her throat spasming around me and turning me on as spit dribbles from the corner of her stretched wide mouth and tears begin to leak from her eyes from my abuse. Hastily finishing in Jessica’s mouth, I zip my fly back up and leave her stunned on the floor and wanting more. These girls knew what we required and shouldn’t expect anything else from us. We made no promises. Before long, I reach the office that my brother and I share; just as I am about to open the door, Eve comes rushing out, swearing under her breath about asshole, egotistical Alphas. As if on autopilot, I grab her by the throat as she tries to dart past, slamming her hard against the wall. “Watch it, little girl”, I growl menacingly, inches from her fearful face. “Remember your fucking place, Eve”, I continue, narrowing my eyes at her in fury. I squeeze her throat tighter momentarily before I let her go with a shove. Eve immediately lowers her gaze, wheezing until she catches her breath before stomping off in the direction of her sister. Entering the office, I slam the door closed behind me, “What the fuck was that about” I ask Rayne.

“For some reason, Hunter is pissed off at me, so I wasn’t in the mood”, Rayne replied casually. “Eve didn’t like the rejection. What about you? Why are you back so soon,” he counters with an arched eyebrow in question? “The same problem with Jax”, I reply with a huff. It was odd. Our wolves had never acted out like this before, and it had knots rapidly forming in both our stomachs. “They are merely anxious to find our mates,” I say with a shrug. The thought was unsettling. To suddenly feel so incomplete and out of control was terrifying.

As expected, sleep didn’t come to either of us that night. “You awake, bro” I reached out using the mind-link. “Yep. Hunter won’t stop pacing. It has me on edge,” He replied with an exhausted sigh. “Jax too. Since we are up, wanna go for a run,” I groan. “Sure,” Rayne replied, “Meet you out the back of the packhouse in ten minutes”, I mutter. A run in the moonlight is just what we need, I thought. It would allow our inner wolves to stretch their legs and take over for a while. It might set their minds at ease and allow us some time to take a back seat to just unwind. Running in the forest was an obvious favourite pastime of ours. Our wolves enjoyed the freedom it afforded them. Unfortunately, for Rayne and me, the run did nothing but give Hunter and Jax more time to get worked up about us not finding their mates. For the first time since they awoke in us, they had tried desperately to stay in control. Running deep into the forest, they marked trees every few kilometres, making sure their scent was everywhere for their fated mates to find and to warn other males that this was their territory.

Ultimately, Rayne and I had to employ our Alpha voices to get them back under control and head back to the packhouse. They wanted nothing more than to stay in our wolf forms so that they could find their mates since they didn’t think we were taking things very seriously in that department. “Enough,” I roar at Jax. “I don’t know what has gotten into you, but if you don’t start behaving, I will not shift for another month until you learn some respect,” I growl savagely. Jax glared at me, his golden-brown eyes blazing. He was furious. As the house came into view, we shifted back into our human form, not bothering to find any spare clothing left in designated areas for pack members to wear after a shift. Racing up the back stairs, we agreed to have brief showers and finish packing for the long drive ahead, wanting to be on our way to try and give our wolves what they wanted, a chance at finding our mates, as swiftly as possible. Rayne and I decided that the sooner we headed towards the Bloodmoon Pack, the sooner our wolves might start behaving. Lord knows I could use a reprieve from Jax being a relentless asshole before he gave me a migraine.

The hours spent on the road passed in a monotonous blur, and we soon approached the Bloodmoon Pack territory lines, pulling our convoy up at the designated meeting spot. We had brought two dozen of our warriors with us as a precaution because we were a large pack and an anomaly of twins. We had a target on our back for other Alphas to try and exterminate us to absorb our pack into their own. We didn’t personally know the Alpha of Bloodmoon Pack, nor had we ever met any members, so we wanted to proceed with caution. When Delta McMillan pulled up alongside us minutes later and eyed the number of vehicles suspiciously, we didn’t feel the need to offer an explanation. As we approached who we assumed to be the Delta McMillan, Rayne and I began an inner dialogue via our mind-link. “Check this pup out, brother,” Rayne said with a snide laugh. I had to snort, watching my brother straighten himself to his maximum height. “Is he sizing us up, Kane” Rayne continued with mirth. Was he? With that notion, I shifted my gait to mirror my brother’s impressive height and build. “I think he might be scared for his unmated partner”, I replied with a sarcastic laugh. “He should be. Look at him”, Rayne replied with a growl. We were about 6ft away from Delta McMillan when the wind suddenly changed direction, and something unexpected happened. We caught a whiff of the most delicious scent we had ever smelt in our entire lives. It was so intoxicating it had Rayne and me freezing in our tracks as Hunter and Jax surged for control. “Do you smell that, Rayne?” I asked, still using the mind-link. “I do, brother. It is faint, but it is defiantly there and has Hunter in a frenzy. He won’t stop howling,” he replied in bewilderment. “Jax is doing the same. I think the scent is somehow attached to the pup. It doesn’t’ smell like him but is on him”, I say with a small growl building in my chest. “Let’s ride with him. Hunter is threatening to take over unless he can analyse the scent more,” Rayne replies, his fists clenching at his side. I hastily agree as Jax was also pushing his boundaries, trying to dominate and take control of the situation. “Settle down, Jax”, I growled in frustration.

Delta McMillan gave us a peculiar look when we exclaimed our intentions of riding with him but didn’t mention a word about it, thankfully. Not that he can refuse an Alpha, let alone two. As we enter his vehicle, neither my brother nor I can stop ourselves from inhaling sharply. The intoxicating smell lingered in here also. It was a beautiful creamy vanilla scent that had our wolves almost purring. “Jax seems to have settled down,” I mind-linked Ryne. “Hunter too,” He replied, exasperated. “I see the lover boy has a ring on his wedding finger. I didn’t know he and Beta Miller were married,” I said, perplexed and, if I had to admit, pissed off at the thought. Generally, unmated wolves didn’t marry. “Neither did I, let’s find out,” Rayne responded with a sarcastic laugh. We were both surprised that he replied using Ashley’s official title, seemingly to remind us of her rank and position in the pack, I thought with a laugh. Evidently, he was proud of Ashley, and it was glaringly obvious that he didn’t want to talk to either of us about her when he didn’t elaborate any further. As we suspected, they were not married. They had, however, been in a relationship for several years. “Interesting, brother. Did you also detect the warning in his response about not being able to meet Ashley on our stay in their territory?” I mocked, “I didn’t miss it. The pup is already pissing on trees,” Rayne replied, mirth dancing in his eyes.

Delta McMillan hastily shifted the subject from Ashley to enquiring about our mates. Rayne and I provided a brief reply and couldn’t help throwing in a dig about hoping to find our mates in his pack. I nearly lost my composure and laughed when Zac gripped the steering wheel so tightly that I thought it would explode. The boy seemed to display all his emotions on his sleeve for the whole world to see. He would be a terrible poker player, I thought with a snort. As the hours passed and we got closer to the Bloodmoon packhouse, the delicious vanilla aroma that we had scented earlier became stronger. Jax was getting closer and closer to the surface again, vying for control, and I did not doubt that Hunter was doing the same. It must have been apparent because the pup asked us if we were alright with a smirk on his face as he took in our rigid postures and clenched fists. This pup was pissing me off and testing my resolve to forge a link between our respective packs.

“We need to find the source of the scent Rayne,” I said via mind-link, running my hand through my hair in exasperation. “Otherwise, Jax is going to make this weekend a living hell”. “Patience, brother. Business first. After we meet with the Alpha and Luna, we will have a look around the town and attempt to locate it”, Rayne replied measuredly. “Behave yourself today, Jax,” I warned with a hint of Alpha command in my voice. “Or we won’t be investigating anything,” I continue tightly to an already pacing wolf. Jax let out a low warning rumble, his temper fighting to take control again, before laying down with a murderous look on his face. If looks could kill, I would be six feet under right now with how Jax keeps looking at me.

Before long, we are at the front entrance to the Bloodmoon packhouse and are being escorted into the dining room where the Alpha and Luna are waiting for us. The heavenly scent has now fully engulfed me, threatening to consume my very being. It is heady and has my cock straining against the fabric of my jeans painfully. Jax is pacing frantically. “Could it be?” I exclaim with a shaky breath via mind-link, “No, you’re not thinking?” Rayne replies hurriedly to my unspoken words. I look across the room to where he is standing, his nostrils flaring and his eyes almost black. Shit, this is bad. Hunter is trying to push forward. Thankfully his eyes flicker back to brown, and he takes a deep breath to steady himself. “I think we have found our mates, well, their scent anyway,” I reply, trying to contain the butterflies forming in my stomach. I felt like I was going to be sick.
