Chapter 13

ISABEL

“Isabel”

I turned towards the direction of where I heard my name.

“Tim.” I called back in surprise.

It’s been over a week since I last saw him. “You are back. I remarked.

“Yes. I returned this morning and decided to get some groceries How have you been?” He asked.

Tve been good. It’s nice to see you again and thanks for the other day.” I said.

“You don’t have to thank me. It’s fine and I’m glad to help. Grocery shopping” He asked and I nodded my head.”

“That’s great then. We can get stuff together then.”

We got what we wanted and he offered to pay for me but I decljed. I can’t keep accepting his help all the time for he has helped me a lot.

“Did you come with your car?” Tim asked.

“No, I didn’t. I don’t know why I got the car when I hardly drove it, I chuckled.

Then you shouldn’t have gotten it,” Tim replied.

“But I get that feeling and good for me. I will be able to take you home so hop on,” he suggested.

“You don’t have to. I told him.

“I insist.”

I

got

into his car and he drove me. “The other day I took you somewhere else so where is this new place? Did you change house perhaps?”

I shook my head. “The other day, you drove me over to my friends place. This time, you are driving to my place,” I answered.

“Oh, now I see. So why didn’t you let me drive you over to yours the other time?”

“It was because my kids were over at hers.” I answered.

He seemed surprised by my answer. “You have kids? As in not one but two?”

“Yes. Twins A boy and a girl. Ethan and Emma,” I answered.

“Wow. I didn’t expect that. I never thought you were married,” he remarked.

Ishook my head. “I’m not married.”

“You are not? I hope you don’t think I’m intruding, where is Father?”

“He and I are no more,” I answered.

“How old are your kids?” He asked.

They are four years old,” I replied.

“Wow. I’m sure they look just as beautiful as their mother,” he remarked and I smiled.

“Thank you,” I said.

“So you recently parted with their father or?”

I wasn’t sure why I was answering him but I didn’t see the need not to after all it wasn’t like there was anything to hide.

“We never got married. He’s an ex and he doesn’t know I have kids. I’ve been raising them myself,” I said, feeling proud of how far I’ve come.

“Wow. That’s good then. It means you are single and ready to mingle right?”

I curled my lips to the side. “I never said that. Single, yes. Ready to mingle, I’m not sure and why did you say that?”

He shrugged instead. “We are here.”

I looked around to realize that we were indeed at where I lived. “Thanks for the ride and for every other time you come to help me,” I said to him.

“You are welcome,” he replied.

I got out of the car. “You don’t have to,” I said to Tim as he tried to get my groceries for me.

“Let me help you carry them,” he said as he took all my groceries with him.

“Thank you,” I uttered, following him behind.

“You have a beautiful place,” he said as we entered my apartment

“Thanks,” I replied.

Just then my kids ran up to me. “Mummy. Mummy. They both called simultaneously as they came towards.

I went on my knees and wrapped my arms around them. “My lovely babies,” I placed a kiss on their cheek each.

“Indeed they are lovely, Tim remarked behind me.

“Oh, thanks,” I replied, getting back on my feet.

“These are my kids. Ethan and Emma,” I introduced.

Emma, Ethan, say hi,” I said to them and they did as told.

“She’s so cute and she looks exactly like you. A complete replica, Tim remarked.

“Yes, she does,” I replied.

“And he looks familiar. Like I’ve seen him somewhere,” he said as she stared at Ethan, and I was reminded that he had seen Logan before.

Anyone who sees Ethan and knows Logan would know that Ethan was his.

“Oh, my goodness. He looks like him, Tim stated and I knew who he was referring to.

“Wow.” He muttered.

“Thanks so much for the help. I will drop this at the kitchen and then see you off,” I said, collecting groceries from his hands.

I returned shortly after dropping the groceries in the kitchen. “Mom will be back shortly, okay,” I said to my kids before walking out with Tim..

“Don’t,” Tim said just as I was about to say something.

“You don’t have to tell me how grateful you are. You’ve said that like fifty times already,” he replied.

I let out a small laugh. “You can’t predict you know. I wasn’t going to say that

“Really?” His lips curled into a smile.

“So what were you going to say? Kindly enlighten me.”

“Okay you caught me,” I replied.

“Good.”

“I will leave you now and return now,” I said.

“Isabel”

I halted on my track when I heard my name. Iturned to look at Tim

“What?”

“Your kids. They are beautiful and I don’t know what happened between you and that man but you are doing great,” he said and I smiled.

He walks closer to me.

“Would like to go out sometimes? We could just catch up and all you know. I’d like to get to know you, Isabel. And th you give me the opportunity to.”

I bit on my bottom lip I wasn’t sure of what to expect but he hasn’t been a bad person. The night I first saw Logan, he was the one who helped me, and the other time I saw him, he came through for me again.

Today he helped me and he doesn’t seem like a bad person. “Alright.”

“Take care, Isabel. I will reach out to you,” he said before entering his car.

I watched as he left before going back into the apartment

The next day, I decided to go see Leah and speak to her. The last time we smiled parted on bad terms and I didn’t feel good about it. Recalling my last conversation with Leah reminded me of my last conversation with Logan.

He confessed to wanting me and it only made me angry. I sternly warned him to stay away from me as I didn’t want him, to walk away without turning back.

Ever since he came back, all he has done was open wounds that weren’t healed and worsen the pain.

“I don’t want to speak to you Isabel. I already made it clear. Our conversation is over,” Leah said the minute I stepped into her office.

“Can you at least listen to me first before you conclude,” I said to her as settled on the chair opposite her

“There is nothing to talk about. You are going to work for…

I cut her off. “Leah please listen.”

“What is it?”

I sighed. “Good. I came here to talk but before you say anything, listen to me first please.”

Alright, go on.”

“I don’t like how things went between us two days ago. It was the first and I felt bad. Leah, you have been my culinary agent for a long time and you have been the best. I know that you only want the best for me and I’ve not been transparent lately and I’m sorry for that.”

I paused before I continued speaking. It might take a little while, but I will tell you soon after all you’ll find out the truth someday, I will work for Mr Smith. I’m sorry to make you feel that way about me, it was never my intention.”

I waited for her to say something but she didn’t so I continued.

“I just wished you actually told me about it and I was properly aware before the conclusion. I was the one who signed the contract. I shouldn’t have done what I did and so I apologize. I don’t want to ruin the relationship that we have.” I explained

to her.

“It’s fine. I shouldn’t have said the words I said that day. It’s fine if you don’t want to tell me what it is that you are going through but at least put the business first. This is business Isabel and any personal feelings should come later, she finally spoke.

“It’s good that you came to your senses I also don’t want to run the relationship that we have. So since we have concluded concluded the whole issue you’d begin working for Mr. Smith next week.”

“Next week?” I voiced out in shock.

“Yes,” she replied.

“Next week as in two days? You mean two days later?” I was beyond shock.
