Teaching My Bookworm Stepsister

Chapter 43

Kapri's P.O.V.

************

Well, Monday came and went. I only saw Maverick that morning when he took me to school. And guess who was waiting in the parking lot for him?

You guessed it, Sally.

Sally was flagging Maverick down as soon as we pulled in. I didn't even have time to sneak in a kiss. Then Sally clung to him like she was drowning, and Maverick was a damn life raft. I had to rush away from them. It was making me sick to my stomach. I guess I should be thankful in a way. I most definitely shouldn't be thinking about asking Maverick to kiss me in public. Even if we were in a car. Someone could have seen us.

Not only that, but.. I shouldn't be getting my hopes up. I think I have come to the conclusion that I do indeed have feelings for Maverick. Strong ones. I think they are only so strong because I used to strongly dislike him.

Oh, how I wish that I still strongly disliked him.

I think I finally understood my feelings when Maverick really did show up at Brooke's. We were really just going to drink and forget all about our problems. Brooke even took my phone. Not that I could stop thinking about Maverick anyway.

When Maverick really did show up though... My heart was beating so hard in my chest. I was so unbelievably happy. Then he told me that he had brought my stuff. He brought his own stuff. Maverick really did come to get me, and stayed with me too. Once again, Maverick took care of me. He made me get out of the pool to go to bed. Maverick even changed me, and refused to let me pleasure him. I was only allowed to kiss him for a while before he made me go to sleep.

That was the best night's sleep I had gotten in a while. I felt so safe and warm. Waking up to Maverick working out was also a big plus. Guess I finally got my answer to that question.

Still, I haven't seen much of Maverick since then. It's now Friday. All week Brooke had come over. I think Mom is waiting for a perfect time to ask her to move in.

There have been a few times that I've asked Brooke to head home without me though. All so I could try to get a ride from Maverick. Of course, the big oaf was always willing to give me one. But Sally was always with him. Apparently, Maverick takes Sally home every day. Every. Dad. Like why? What for? Are you saying that Sally's super rich father won't buy her a car?

It's been making me extremely jealous, and I hate it.

I've also been trying to sneak into Maverick's room at night. Thankfully, he's always home these days. In fact, it really seems like Maverick takes Sally home, and comes straight home. Then he stays here all night, mostly hanging out in his room. I think he's doing it to prove to me that they really aren't doing anything. Although, I don't see how this proves anything. I mean, he still takes her home every day.

Even though I've been able to sleep with Maverick most nights, it isn't enough.

First of all, he's almost always gone, or leaving his room by the time I get up. When I crawl into his bed, he's always already asleep. So all we do is cuddle. We don't even speak to each other.

If I'm going to be honest with myself, I miss Maverick. I miss hanging out with him. I miss bickering with him. I miss just being around him.

And I really miss doing stuff with him.

I'm extremely se.xually frustrated. I want to do stuff with Maverick. I want Maverick to want to do stuff with me. But I can never find the time to ask him to be alone.

Today is going to be different though. Today, I'm going to finally ask him. I see him at his locker every day right before lunch. So, today, I'm going to march up to him, and ask if he has some time after school. "Don't be nervous," Brooke said to me.

"I'm not nervous. What do I have to be nervous about? It's just Maverick," I said.

Wow, is it really that obvious that I'm bervous?

"I don't even know what you're so nervous about." Brooke said, shaking her head. "You sleep in the guy's bed every night, but you can't ask him to hang out after school?"

My face flamed as I turned to her.

"Th-this is different!" I whisper-yelled.

"Mhm." Brooke said.

The bell rang, and all of the other students started to shuffle out of the classroom.

"Just, ya know, act natural. Like you said, it's just Maverick." Brooke reminded me.

"You're right," I said.

I gathered up all of my stuff, and headed to the hallway. Maverick is already at his locker. Thankfully, he's alone.

I took a deep breath, and walked up to him.

"H-hey Maverick," I said.

Maverick turned his head to me, and smirked.

"What's up nerd?" He asked as he shoved a few books into his locker.

"U-uhm, well.." I said.

I took another deep breath, and tucked some of my hair behind my ear.

"Maverick, I was wondering if maybe you wanted to.. hang out tod-"

"Hey Maverick! Thanks so much for waiting for me for lunch." Sally said as she ran right up to Maverick.

Sally looked down at me.

"Oh, hey there Kapri. How are you?" She asked sweetly.

What a fake girl. How can Maverick really have feelings for someone like her? Does he really not see through this at all? "Fine thanks." I said tightly.

Maverick frowned down at me, but didn't say anything.

"Uhm, so Mav, are we still on for after school today?" Sally asked.

"After school today?" I asked.

Sally looked down at me, and smiled.

"Yeah, Mav and I are grabbing dinner and a movie. Just the two of us. It's going to be so fun." She said with a huge smile.

They're.. going on a date?

My heart sank, and I averted my eyes from them. I feel so stupid. For all of this. Why did I have to catch feelings for Maverick Penton? "Oh, sorry Kap.. Did you want to come?" Sally asked.

"Kap?" I asked her with a raised brow.

"Uhm.." Sally trailed off awkwardly.

I sighed as I looked from Sally to Maverick.

"No, I don't want to tag along on your date. Have fun." I told them.

I hope they do. Then maybe I can get over this stupid crush. For someone so smart, I sure am acting dumb.

"Kapri, what were you trying to ask me just now?" Maverick spoke for the first time.

I see he isn't going to deny this as a date.

"N-nothing. Forget it." I said.

"No. I want to know," he said.

I snapped my head at him, and frowned.

"Well that sucks for you," I stated.

Maverick smirked down at me.

"Sorry Sally, something came up. Maybe next time." He said, not taking his eyes off of me.

My eyes went wide. Sally only shook her head softly, which confused me. Then Maverick turned to her.

"And I never said we were going to the movies. You asked if I wanted to grab fries and ice cream at Snowy's. That was it." He said.

Sally's cheeks deepened. My eyes went even wider as I looked between the two. So, Saly lied. But why? What reason would she have to lie like that?

Maverick slammed his locker shut, and grabbed my hand.

"Come on, I'll walk you to lunch." He said.

"Okay." I replied softly.

Maverick is choosing me over Sally. Me. He chose me.

I don't know why Maverick chose me. Maybe it's that we haven't been spending as much time together lately. Maybe Maverick misses me too. Or maybe he's just really mad that Sally lied so blatantly.

Whatever the reason, I'm glad about it. I probably shouldn't let it go to my head like this, but I can't help it. I'm such an idiot for catching feelings for someone like Maverick.

I wonder if all the other girls that claim to be in love with Maverick feel this way. I find it hard to believe honestly. Maverick doesn't show who he is a lot. I hated his guts before I actually got to know him. I bet none of those girls got to know him this way. I'm sure that Sally has. She and Maverick are really close. It's no wonder that she's so obsessed with him the way she is. I can't even say I blame her at this point.

I wonder what the girl that Maverick is in love with is like. Does she even know about his feelings for her? Who is she? What's she like?

I bet she's gorgeous. Probably some kind of model. I'm sure she's smart and classy. I wonder why things with them haven't worked out. "Maverick, can I ask you-"

"Kapri!" Megan called out my name, cutting off my question.

I turned my head to see her running down the hall.

"Hey," She said. "I have something for you, but it has to be in private."

I looked up at Maverick.

"Go on." He said.

"Uhm, w-will you be taking me home today?" I asked.

Maverick gave me a tight smile.

"You know I'm always willing to give you a ride, but I will be taking Sally home still." He said.

I rolled my eyes, and yanked my hand free from him.

"Fine, whatever." I said.

"Kap-"

"Bye jerkface." I interrupted.

I grabbed Megan's hand, and dragged her down the hall to the girls' bathroom. I can't believe that a.sshole. He's still going to take her home? After he knows that I want to spend time with him? "You okay?" Megan asked me after we were in the bathroom.

"Yeah, whatever." I grumbled. "What did you want to give to me?" I asked.

Megan looked around, and under the stalls to make sure we were alone. Then she pulled something out of her backpack. I looked at the box, and my jaw dropped.

"This is.." I trailed off.

"A vibrator!" Megan squealed softly. "Now, go home and use that buddy to let out all your frustration." She said.

Maybe Megan is right. If I could make myself c.um, I wouldn't need Maverick. Maybe then these feelings will go away.

Hope you'll have fun driving that fake girl home, Maverick!
