Chapter 241 Lonely At The Top
Doris swallowed nervously and answered the phone in fear.
"Well, Nancy, I am suffering from morning sickness. As much as I would like to help you because of your wound on your shoulder, I can't pick up the babies for you these days. How about asking Charles to pick them up? Or maybe Hiram can do it. After all, isn't he Charles' bodyguard? As his bodyguard, it's absolutely part of his obligations to pick up his boss' children..."1 Even before Nancy could say a word, Doris had already given her an excuse.
Nancy was stunned. Was she the same Doris she knew? Didn't she use to like her children very much and would do these things for them without hesitation?
What a fickle woman she had become!
What could have happened for her to change so quickly? Was it something the two kids did? What made her so scared of them all of a sudden?
"I haven't told you yet what I'm going to say next, but you already began to rant that you wouldn't pick up the kids..." replied Nancy in exasperation and continued,
"Oh, I'm calling you not because I want you to pick up the kids." "Then what is it?" Hearing that, Doris felt secretly relieved.
"I don't have any clothes to wear..." Nancy began embarrassedly.
But before she could finish her words, she was suddenly interrupted by Doris. "Wow, how could that be? There is a rich man beside you. If you don't have any clothes to wear, you can simply ask Charles to buy it for you. Why are you telling me this instead?" "When would this woman get rid of her impetuousness?' Nancy thought and then retorted, "Let me finish what I have to say first, okay?" "Okay, go ahead then!" Doris said albeit patiently.
"I don't know where Charles took me yesterday. My clothes were thrown away by him, and then he left. I don't know where he is now, and I don't have any clothes to wear!" She walked over to the window to asses her surroundings and said, "Let me take a look. I seem to be in 'Cloud Lake Community,' an area with several villas."
"Never heard of such a place before. How about I ask Jay to send you some clothes? Find something to put on first and he'll be there in a while."
"Well, I'll look for Charles' clothes and wear them for now. I'll also try to get in touch with him. Please ask Jay to hurry up." "Okay, got it."
After ending the call, Doris shouted impatiently at Jay who was in the bedroom, "It's getting late, Jay. Aren't you getting up?"
"What do you mean? Why are you waking me up? It's my rest day at home today!" Jay turned over and murmured sleepily.
As soon as Doris came in, she pulled back the quilt to wake him up and ordered, "Nancy has no clothes to wear. She told me to ask you to bring her clothes. Go, hurry up!"
He sat up straight, fully awake and looked at her in surprise. "What do you mean? Nancy is naked and has no clothes on. And yet you are asking me to send her some clothes? I'm your husband. Why are you so generous to share me with others?"
Doris looked at him speechlessly, bewildered by what he said. "What are you talking about? Yesterday, Charles took Nancy to the Cloud Lake Community. He threw away her clothes and then left her. Nancy didn't know where he had gone now, so she asked me to bring her a change of clothes. I'm pregnant, aren't I? If I were to drive there myself, you will be worried, won't you? So, it's up to you to get up now and bring some clothes to her!"
"Oh, I see, that's what happened. You scared me just now!" Rubbing his face, Jay got out of bed, did some stretching and walked to the bathroom lazily.
"Hurry up, don't be slow. Nancy is waiting for you!" she said while pushing him away.
"No matter how anxious you are, I have to brush my teeth and wash my face. Won't you feel ashamed if people see that your husband goes out in a mess?" Jay said as he raised his eyebrows and sneered in jest.
"Well, only God knows you are indeed my husband!" she murmured to herself.
Jay turned around and hugged her gently, "What? Do you now want to announce our relationship to the public and let people know?"
"No, that is not what I meant. I'm much too afraid that many women will attack me with their negative opinions!" Doris said sarcastically in annoyance.
"Yes, you are right. You are not alone now. You need to take care of yourself. Since you are pregnant with our baby, it would be better not to make our marriage public yet!" Jay said seriously. He was also worried about the dangers that may happen to the baby.
It was so lonely at the top!
What troubled him was that he had indeed provoked a lot of women over the years, and they were, of course, all dumped by him in the end. If any of them were to find out that he had married Doris, they might do something dangerous to her. Making it public really wasn't worth it for now!
Doris looked at him, full of suspicion and asked jealously, "Why don't you want to announce our relationship? Do you still have any feelings for those women?"
"No, absolutely not! I swear that I only love you. No, no, I also love our baby together. As for other women, I really don't bother anymore to spare them even a glance!" Jay raised his hand and swore solemnly. Smiling, Doris stood on tiptoe and kissed his face adoringly.
"Go and wash yourself now!"
"Yes, ma'am. I'll do it right now!" At the same time, his phone rang. He took it out and looked at it. He muttered to himself, "Just now, Doris said that Charles's phone couldn't be reached. Why is he calling me now?"
He picked up the phone and asked with concern on his voice, "Charles, where are you? Nancy said she couldn't get through your phone."
"Yes, my phone was turned off during the time she was trying to call me up. I'm telling you, Jay, you need to bring Nancy to the police station now. I'm in big trouble! II
"What? Why? What' could be wrong this time?" Jay inquired coldly.
"I ran the red light with Nancy yesterday. Now I am regarded as a suspect and bad person. Come here quickly! By the way, you need to prove the relationship between Nancy and me!" Charles replied hurriedly "Okay, I'll just need to wash my face and brush my teeth. I'll be right there!" After thinking for a while, Jay continued, "Charles, remember to call Nancy up. She was worried when she couldn't find you this morning.
Hey..."
But before he could finish his words, Charles had already hung up.
"Huh? What happened? It's so weird!" Then, he put away his phone and walked quickly into the bathroom to freshen up.
Charles also wanted to make a phone call to Nancy, but he was not allowed to. The police regarded him as the suspect. As soon as he finished speaking, the police took his phone and said, "Well, you've already said a lot. Now you can begin to explain exactly what you have done yesterday!"
"Sir, I'm a good man and a good businessman. I have nothing to hide and have no problem explaining what happened. The woman I was with is my girlfriend. I have two children with her. You can investigate this if you don't believe me!" Charles said sincerely.
"Well, I'll give you a record first, and then you can find a witness to prove your relationship with the woman in your car yesterday. But from our point of view, the state of your so-called girlfriend yesterday was very unusual. Because of this, we naturally have a reason to suspect you. To clear the misunderstanding, explain clearly what you had done yesterday. After all, our principle is that we won't wrong any innocen person, but we will never let any bad guy go. So, sit down!"
the policeman scolded, and Charles had no choice but to sit down obediently!
He was, first and foremost, really a good citizen who observed the law!
