Chapter 239 Building Blocks
Nancy smiled as tears fell from her eyes.
"Where is Caspar?" she asked.
"Jay had just told me that he had caught him, and that Caspar had been sent to the police. You don't have to worry anymore, honey. We will make sure that Caspar will be put to justice," Charles said as he finished wrapping Nancy's bandage.
"Ouch..." She took a deep breath due to the pain.
"Do you want me to take you back to the hospital?" Charles worriedly asked.
"Just give me two aspirins. It's really not a big deal!" Nancy answered, clearly in pain.
Charles took capsules out and gave them to Nancy. He also poured her some water as he said, "I'm especially worried about you today. But I trust that you're fine."
Nancy popped the capsules into her mouth and took a sip of water. "Thank you," she said in the most sincere tone.
"Silly girl, I should be the one thanking you. Thank you for taking care of yourself. Otherwise, I really won't know what to do," Charles said. The man meant every word.
Nancy began to realize how important she really was to Charles.
"Where are the kids?" Nancy asked.
"Doris had taken them away so you could recover. Don't worry about them for now, honey. All you need to worry about is feeling better, okay?" Charles said as he took the cup from which Nancy drank. "Okay!" Nancy obediently lay down on the bed.
At dawn, their doorbell rang.
Charles gently removed Nancy's hand as he stood from the bed.
He put his slippers on, and then proceeded to answer the door. To his surprise, two policemen stood right outside.
The two police men looked stern. They flashed their IDs and said, "Charles, come with us."
Charles chuckled and said, "Sir, I do not understand. I haven't done anything wrong. You must be mistaken..."
"Mr. Charles Fu, have you forgotten that you ran past several red lights yesterday?" a policeman said in an unyielding tone.
"Sir, trust me. I can explain what happened. So I..." Charles looked back to gauge whether Nancy was still sleeping. He did not want to wake her up.
"Whatever your excuse is, no one should run past the red light. Besides, reports said that there was an unknown woman in your car!"
"No, no. That woman and I have a very clean background. If you follow the news, then you should know who she is!" Charles argued.
"Sorry, but we do not indulge ourselves with gossip! Mr. Fu, we're sorry but you have to come with us!"
"Okay. I understand." Charles knew that he had not committed anything wrong, and so he agreed to come with the police. He returned to their room and got ready to follow the police. He gently kissed Nancy's forehead before heading out.
Nancy had a deep long sleep.
She slept until very late.
Nancy felt estranged with her surroundings. She couldn't remember where she was.
After all, that was her first time home for quite some time. Her feeling was completely normal.
"Charles..." In a very low voice, Nancy called out. Unfortunately, no one answered. She massaged her throbbing little head.
Just as she was about to get up, her phone rang.
"Hello, Nancy. Are you feeling better?" Doris could not help to smile gleefully as she said those words.
By Nancy's judgment, Doris did not know about Jill's antics the day prior.
At this moment, what she asked should be the wound on her shoulder.
"I'm feeling much better. Everything is all right! Thank you for asking," Nancy answered reassuringly.
"Oh, that's nice. It seems that the drug had already started to wear off. Can you feel anything?" Doris asked.
"Ah, do you mean? Don't worry about it! The injury is not even that serious." Nancy pretended to not understand Doris' question.
"Come on. We are friends, aren't we? Why do you feel like hiding it from me? Jay called me yesterday and told me about Jill and her daughter. That you were..."
Everything about yesterday rushed back into Nancy's memory.
Nancy blushed and nervously said, "Well, I'm fine now... Are the kids making any trouble for you?"
Doris snorted disdainfully and said, "That is so
hypocritical..."
She then changed the topic and said, "Nadia and Bobby show great concerns for my baby. Especially the little boy! He keeps on asking me how I got pregnant. I don't even know how to answer him..." Nancy simply smiled and said, "Procreation had strangely caught Bobby's attention recently. Charles and I are still trying to find a way to deal with it. Can you explain 'the birds and the bees' to him?" "No way! Bobby is your son, so you should teach him that. Pick him up this afternoon, okay? I'll be right here!" Doris said.
"I'd like to spend more time alone with Charles. I hope that's okay with you. Please, Doris? Mrs. Fang, can you do me this favor?"
"No, I can't. I'm pregnant and I usually feel sick. I also need to be taken care of. So, no, Nancy. I'm afraid I'll have to return your children to you..." Then Doris shouted at her phone and said, "Ugh! Fine, Nancy! Just remember, I won't go to the kindergarten to pick the kids up today!"
"Got it! Thanks, Doris!" Nancy said with a smile.
After the call ended, Doris rubbed her face once. It was not that she didn't want to pick up the children, nor that she didn't want to see them. It was just that Bobby had too many questions, which overwhelmed her at times.
Last night, Jay immediately called Charles after turning Caspar over to the police. Jay thought that it would be best if Doris fetched the children from the kindergarten -especially given how busy Charles was with Nancy. And so, Jay had promised Charles that Doris would do so.
At the time, seeing how weak Nancy was as she curled up on the sofa, Charles agreed without hesitation.
And so, Doris drove to the kindergarten and picked up
the kids.
As they returned home, Doris asked the servants to prepare their favorite dishes.
She sat on the sofa and watched her favorite soap opera.
Jay had also returned home after a long day of hard work. He was so tired that he opted to take an early shower.
Bobby and Nadia played Legos in the living room. They were too occupied that they didn't pay much attention to their Aunt Doris.
Doris seemed to be occupied with her show as well. She didn't seem to care about anything else.
Doris would cry whenever she watched romantic dramas.
Before long, the lady had already gone through a whole box of tissue.
Nadia was the first to notice Doris sob. She turn to Bobby and whispered, "Bobby, why is Aunt Doris crying?"
Bobby, who concentrated on building his Lego castle, inadvertently looked at the TV. Bobby saw a man and a woman, who cried as they held each other.
The actress cried, "I'm pregnant. The timing could not be any worse. What should we do?"
The actor cupped the heroine's face with both hands and said, "I know it's difficult for you to learn that you are pregnant, but you don't need to worry. I take full responsibility of it!" The boy frowned. He then walked towards Doris.
"Aunt Doris, can you please stop crying?" Bobby reached out his hand and wiped her tears away.
She continued to sob and said, "Oh, my God! The heroine is pregnant... Unfortunately, their baby came in a really bad time!"
