Chapter 231 Embarrassment
A vein throbbed against Charles' skin as his jaw tightened.
"Hiram, find Nancy's car and look over the surveillance video! Find out the culprit no matter what!" Barely managing to restrain his fury, Charles rattled off Nancy's license plate number to Hiram. "Yes, sir!"
In fact, Nancy wasn't thrown out of the minibus by anyone.
It was after she was thrown into the minibus that these men went to a remote area away from the city.
Maybe they were afraid they took the wrong person, so they waited for her to wake up.
After all, Nancy wasn't a damsel in distress and quickly reacted when she woke up to find several men looking at her.
Fortunately, they weren't animals and didn't lay a hand on her.
"Are you Nancy?" one of them quickly asked her when he noticed that she was awake.
"Sir, I don't know you. Why did you kidnap me?" Despite her terrible situation she politely asked him without a hint of fear.
"You don't have to know that. Since you really are Nancy..." The man pulled away from her and winked at his subordinates. "Slap this woman twenty times, and then break two ribs!" "Please, I have an operation today. Please let me go.
The patient is waiting for me!" Nancy glanced outside the window and noticed that barely anyone was there, so shouting wouldn't do her any favor. For now, her best course of action was carefully talk to her kidnappers since none of them look like outlaws.
Sure enough, the man was completely shocked for a moment.
"We took that woman's money already. We can't just let her go. Evelyn is waiting for the money to save her!" another man argued.
Once she heard that there was a patient in the man's house, Nancy quickly said, "I'm a doctor. What's wrong with your child? Let me see if I can help..."
"It's blood cancer..." Pure pain filled the man's voice as he answered in a whisper.
"Oh, that's terrible. I think... I think I can contact the best doctor for your child and give her the best treatment. Given the right care, she could recover!" Right after the words left her lips, the man next to her slapped her despite her desire to help being completely genuine. "Bitch, that kind of disease can't be cured. We only got half of the money. If we don't get the rest, Evelyn will die faster. Bro, don't be fooled. All the women in the world are cunning foxes. You shouldn't believe her!"
"He's right!" All the other men quickly echoed the sentiment.
Just when Nancy was about to say something, another man kicked her.
A loud thud sounded as she smashed against the seat.
Fear was pumping through her veins but she forced herself to calm down, taking solace in the scalpel she had with her.
After she managed to slowly slip it into her hand, she quickly aimed for the man who kicked her.
Rich red blood quickly spurted everywhere, accompanied by the loud screams of the man.
"She has a knife! Be careful!" the man snarled and roughly grabbed her hair in a tight grip.
Without any hesitation, Nancy stabbed the man's arm and made him let out another deafening howl. Despite the man's foot connecting to her head, Nancy desperately held onto her consciousness, fighting against the loud buzzing between her ears.
A crack on the door attracted her hazy eyes and she eagerly reached out for the exit. Before she could jump out, someone behind her kicked her down again.
Although she did her best to hold on, her body couldn't take it and she fell into a dead faint as she fell out of the minibus.
Just a moment before she passed out, she saw the minibus begin driving away.
Before her consciousness left her, Nancy's last thought was that Evelyn's father must have been the one to save her. It seemed like her words were effective. Fortunately, the forest guard found her soon enough and called the ambulance in time to send her to the hospital.
After an intensive check-up, Nancy's lasting damage would just be a deep cut on her shoulder. It was probably caused by the man who took away her scalpel.
That was where the blood was from.
However, Erin didn't know any of this and could only panic at the sight of so much blood all over Nancy's body. Tears welled up in her eyes and she ran down her cheeks at the thought of Nancy being on death's door.
"Dr. Nancy, please don't die. If you die, I won't work here anymore."
Since she was too weak, she relied too much on Nancy's protection.
Intense fear filled her whenever she thought of Jessie and Anna.
"The result isn't even out yet. Don't say ominous things!" Jay coldly scolded her.
Like a bucket of cold water was splashed on her, she raised her hand and slapped herself in the face. "I'm talking nonsense. Damn it. Dr. Nancy will be fine. She's such a good person!" Ignoring their conversation, Charles merely coldly looked at his watch tick the seconds away. Finally, after another excruciating twenty minutes, the operating room's doors slowly opened. A doctor pushed past the doors with Nancy on a hospital bed.
"How is she?" Charles coldly demanded. Worry filled his every fiber. There could only be two reasons why she was out so soon. One was that she was fine, and the other was that... Charles didn't even want to think about it and slowly walked over.
"Mr. Fu, don't worry. Dr. Nancy just hurt her shoulder and has a slight concussion. Nothing else."
A sigh of relief nearly turned Charles boneless. "That's good."
He quickly ordered someone to push her towards his exclusive ward.
"Lucky she's fine. I'll pick up the kids this afternoon. Don't worry," said Jay, putting the books Charles' bought on the bedside table.
"Thank you for your help." Charles sighed tiredly.
"No need to be so polite with me. Tell me if you have any news. I'll go back now." Since Nancy was fine now, there was nothing else Jay could do to help. If he stayed any longer, he'd only make trouble. "Okay, you can go back first." After saying that, Charles went into the bathroom, walking out with a soaked towel he began to use to gently wipe the blood stain off Nancy's face.
On the other hand, Jay went to pick up the kids.
Back at home, Doris' eyes kept twitching.
Whether she stood or sat, she couldn't shake off the uneasy feeling that crept into her.
After a moment, she lowered her gaze to her belly and said, "Baby, other women's morning sickness lasts for a month at most. Am I going to vomit until I give birth? I'm pregnant with just you and I'm suffering like this. I really don't know how Nancy made it through with two children!"
Right as she was wallowing in her self-pity, the sound of a car from the yard snapped her out of her thoughts.
As soon as she walked to the French window of the living room, she was greeted with the sight of Bobby and Nadia getting out of the car.
"Why are these two kids here? I haven't seen them for a few days. I miss them so much."
"Godmother, I want to see your belly! I want to see if the baby has grown up again!" Bobby, who recently got very interested in the little baby, hurriedly ran in with Nadia's hand in his tight grip.
"Slow down, Bobby. Don't fall down." Doris flushed red in embarrassment.
Both children quickly ran up to her. Bobby looked up at her and said, "Godmother, let me touch your baby. Is that okay?"
"Bobby, the baby hasn't moved yet. You can't touch him, " Doris awkwardly explained.
