Chapter 192 Disappointed
The next morning, Nancy woke up in such a bad mood that she had to skip breakfast. Fortunately, the children were not there to see her listless look on her face.
She had several operations for the day, and luckily her foot didn't hurt much. But even so, she could not stand not working when her patients needed a doctor to tend to them.
And because Charles was nowhere to be found, Nancy took a taxi to the hospital.
1 should not ask him to drive him to work anymore,' she thought.
A pang of sadness hit her heart.
Nancy had gotten used to his presence every morning that this one felt quite odd and unfamiliar to her.
And although she thought no one would notice her long, brooding face, Jessie suddenly came over at her as soon as she entered the hospital.
"Oh, you don't look well today. Didn't you sleep well last night?"
Since Nancy was already disheartened, she didn't have the mood banter with Jessie.
So instead of replying, she just walked straight to her office.
"I've warned you time and again that you should be careful with Charles. Look at you! He cheated on you, didn't he? You should've listened to me. Tsk tsk!" Jessie couldn't hide her condescending tone. After all, the smug smile on her lips gave away her real thoughts. There was just no way she'd worry about Nancy. The woman just really liked sticking her nose into other people's business.
At this thought, Nancy couldn't help turning around and retorted, "I don't care being cheated on. Okay, Director Jessie?"
"Oh, okay! If you're really that stubborn, I guess I can't do anything," Jessie replied in a sarcastic tone and left.
Meanwhile, Nancy reminded herself to cheer up and wear a smile while talking with her patients.
"Director Nancy!" Erin greeted her eagerly.
"How is the patient with an infected wound?" Nancy asked right away.
"He's alright now. I didn't expect that Mr. Fu would come. I'm sorry. I didn't expect that..." Upon opening up the topic, Erin was immediately on the verge of breaking down. Everyone knew what happened last night,
including Erin.
The ever so kind Nancy patted her on the shoulder and comforted, "It's alright. You need to take a rest. I know you were exhausted from last night."
"Alright. Thank you, Dr. Nancy. I'm really sorry again." Erin rubbed her eyes and prepared to walk out. However, when she was about to reach the door, she suddenly turned around and said, "Director Nancy, I'm just wondering. It seems that a lot of strange things have been happening to us recently. And I don't think last night was any different. More than that, you were recently injured, and then Mr. Fu met that strange woman. Why do I feel like someone is manipulating it?"
Upon hearing that, Nancy was stunned to her seat. She had always been a simple woman who would never think ill of other people. But now that Erin mentioned it, she couldn't help but doubt everything too. "Director Nancy, I'm just guessing, but I think we should pay attention to it, whether it's true or not. It won't hurt if we investigate a little. What do you think?" Erin suggested.
The woman was a very cautious person who always worked diligently and tried her best not to offend anyone. She would always be the first one to come to work and the last to leave. But apparently, even such cautious person like her could offend Jessie.
It was because she knew how vicious the latter was that she reminded Nancy to be careful around her.
She thought that Nancy was a completely different woman from Jessie, who was just inherently conniving and greedy.
And while the former was focused on being an excellent doctor and treating her patients, the latter was busy plotting against her.
In fact, Jessie didn't even seem like a doctor. All what Nancy was thinking about was how to treat her patients.
While Jessie was thinking of more ways to extort money from them. She was really unethical, to begin with.
Erin, who wasn't as oblivious as Nancy, saw through her and noticed everything. She felt that after Anna came, Jessie began to be even more arrogant.
Anna was an arrogant girl, and if she was instigated by Jessie, she might do something.
"Well, I know you said this out of kindness. I'll think about it carefully. You can go to work now," Nancy replied with a genuine smile.
"Oh, okay." Erin then left.
'Very few people are as considerate as Erin in this hospital,' Nancy thought, sticking her palm against her forehead as she thought deeply. Although Nancy wanted to believe her words, she had no evidence and couldn't jump into conclusion that easily.
Maybe she should wait for an explanation from Charles?
But she had nothing to do with Charles! How could she ask for his explanation?
In fact, she didn't intend to ask for an explanation in the first place.
But Bobby and Nadia were prompting her to do so, and the kids were old enough to demand and know everything.
Initially Doris didn't want Bobby and Nadia to know about what happened to their father, so she kept her mouth shut.
However, when she sent them to school, something terrible happened.
As soon as they arrived at the gate, some women began pointing fingers at the two kids as if they had committed a shameful crime.
"Hey, do you know that their father was caught last night and hasn't come out of jail yet?"
"Really? What did he do?"
"I heard that he was cheating and was caught molesting a woman."
"My god! Rich men just do whatever they want, huh. No matter whether they have children or not."
People, who didn't know much about Charles, aside from being extremely wealthy, would never dare to talk ill of him. They were just too intimidated by his domineering identity. But now that he was in trouble, they suddenly had the guts to belittle him without knowing the full story.
More than that, those pitiful gossipers didn't even feel sorry for both Bobby and Nadia.
The kids were clueless about the entire incident, and yet people slandered about them as if they had just lost their father's love and affection.
"Godmother, they seem to be talking about daddy." Nadia suddenly stopped walking and gazed at Doris with a pair of pitiful eyes.
"Just ignore them. They are just talking nonsense. Come on! You'll be late." Doris didn't want the kids to think about these things, so she tried her best to divert their attention. Unexpectedly, the crowd was even more excited when they heard Doris coaxing the children.
"Hey, what are you talking about? The news has come out. Haven't you seen it? Humph! Stop making us look like the bad guys!"
"That's right. I guess this woman is the same as Charles!
Those women's mouths were indeed sharper than a knife!
In fact, they could most certainly kill someone with those sharp words coming out of their lips.
And they would not even pay anything for it!
But little did they know that they annoyed a person with a short temper. She'd never let anyone talk crap about her, her family, and friends when she was around.
So she walked up angrily and roared, "You bitches! Would you fall ill if you don't gossip for a while? Come on! Keep talking if you want me to rip your mouths apart!" "Hey, bitch! Why are you mad? Did we talk about your man?"
"No, no, no! She looks so fierce and uncivilized. No man would ever dare to marry her. Any man who will marry her will die early. Humph!"
And like a dagger blazed with flames, those words pierced through Doris, firing up the fury in her.
"I'll let you know what 'die early' means today!" After yelling at the top of her lungs, Doris rushed forward and grabbed the older woman by the hair.
Then, reaching out her hand, she landed a hard slap on the woman's face.
The two kids were left dumbfounded at the sight of their aunt going ballistic. But instead of stopping her, all they could do was stare at Doris in utter disbelief.
"You, bitch! You'll regret this!" With eyes wide open, the woman screamed in horror.
The woman might be good at talking, but not at fighting.
