Chapter 50. Noah Hunter Is Your Daddy

Briana

I couldn’t be prouder of my youngest. Mason was the first to introduce himself to their father without any barriers.

I thought it would be difficult since the triplets didn’t have a good impression of Noah, but my children are intelligent.

When Riley and Brixx followed Mason’s lead, my chest felt stuffy.

I bit my lip and bent my head to look at Noah, who had looked up at me at the same time.

He was exchanging handshakes with his children. His large hands looked enormous compared to their little ones.

Our eyes held for a tender moment, and I could feel a blend of emotions swirling in his eyes.

He sprang to his feet and subtly wiped the corners of his eyes with the tip of his index finger.

Thank you, he mouthed.

I nodded but could also feel tears escaping my eyes.

I felt a little tug in my hand, and I hunkered down so Mason and I could see face to face.

Mason’s little hands worked their way to the bottom of my eyes, tracing it with his index finger.

“You were crying.” He said, wiping the tears away.

I nodded and bit my lip.

It’s because I was happy. You are growing up too fast.” I replied, brushing his downy hair back.

My chest swelled with pride for my boys.

His two brothers‘ ears perked up. “You hurt Mommy?” Riley shouted and threw an accusing glare on Noah’s way.

His voice was loud enough that my four brothers came barging in. They all wore. worried frowns on their faces.

Noah looked stumped. He mimicked my action and knelt in front of Riley to take his hand and put it to his chest.

“I didn’t champ. Scout’s honor.” He told him

“If you are lying, I am going to klak you again” He warned.

Riley’s words left me in shock.

Oh my gosh!

“Riley, Noah did not do anything to hurt Mommy, alright.” I tried to soothe my son’s ruffled feathers and mouthed “sorry” for Noah.

On the other hand, my brothers were watching us.

“Folks, it was nothing. I was just happy. You know how I sometimes smile through. my tears.” I informed them.

If my boys were protective, my brothers are the worst. Maybe it was due to our decades–long separation.

They wanted to make amends, but I told them it was unnecessary.

I am my own person. I can fight my own battles alone..

They wouldn’t let me unless I promised them I would holler if I ever needed their help.

My brothers left us again after confirming that everything was fine.

“I am sorry, Noah.” I apologized when they were gone.

Noah waved his hand off to stop me from explaining.

“You don’t have to apologize. There is no harm done. And if ever there is, I will grin and bear it. I deserve them.”

‘Noah.” I warned, not liking where our conversation was going.

Noah drew a long breath and held up his hand to assure me it was okay.

“I am just glad the

triplets were so protective of you.”

He admitted, but I could see how he was trying to hold his emotions.

I feel the same way,

I was so proud of them. I may not have given them the perfect family, but at least know that I instilled in them the concepts of love, family, and security,

Noah’s face twitched, and I realized there was more to it than a simple apology.

“In truth, it was I who should apologize for the years that I abandoned you and chose to believe someone who is not worthy of my trust,”

What he said opened up old wounds,

“Noah,” I warned, not wanting to be reminded of them now because it would ruin the day.

“I am zipping my mouth. But later, I wanted to talk to you about what happened five years ago. I want you to hear my side. It’s not because I wanted you to pity me but because I want you to understand.”

I looked at him, and he looked like he was trying to compose himself.

What happened five years ago was a sore topic for me.

“I am not sure I am ready to hear them.”

I saw his pain before he shut his eyes.

“I understand.” He muttered.

I sniffed, and so did Noah. Accidentally, we looked at each other’s red faces. We both laughed, and the maudlin mood was lifted.

It was the ice that broke the gloom between us.

“Shall we?” He asked me and the children.

“Where are we going?” Riley asked, still feeling suspicious.

On impulse, I crouched down and held Riley’s face in the palms of my hands. He was protesting, but I wouldn’t let go.

“It does not matter. Your daddy will take care of us.” I told him.

“Our daddy? You mean this baddle is our daddy?” Riley shouted while his two brothers looked at us confusedly.

“Yes, your daddy.” I nodded to confirm.
