"Now that you know the child is Nash's, does that make you even more reluctant to give it up?" His voice was quiet but edged with accusation. "Is that what this is about?"

She shook her head. "I already told you-I don't care who the father is."

"But Nash was the one who had you first, wasn't he? He was the one who took that from you. Don't tell

me you didn't feel at least a little relieved-maybe even a bit grateful?"

"No," Caroline answered without hesitation. "David, I hate him too."

She hated that he had saved her, yet refused to set her free-that he insisted on having her, yet never took any precautions.

She hated that he offered no future, yet kept appearing in her life, dragging her back into his world.

H not for this child, everything would have been much simpler.

"You despise him, yet you insist on giving birth to his child?" David took a step closer, looking down at her. "You'd even risk your life to protect it?"
