Chapter 330

The Caldwells had a good reputation and were on good terms with everyone. So why would anyone want to kidnap Millie?

“The rules of this game are all wrong! I object!” Millie shouted.

“Shut up!” Michael scoffed. “You have no say in this.”

Millie fell silent and looked at the bricks beneath her. Her thoughts raced as she wondered who could be so despicable as to target her.

Was it Winston? But this didn’t seem like something he would do. Although he was repulsive, he wasn’t the type to stoop to such a lowly act, especially not against her.

It must be Joanna then. However, Winston had rejected her marriage proposal. So, she shouldn’t have had the time to think about targeting Millie.

Millie couldn’t make sense of it. She looked over at Michael munching on chips, who happened to glance her way.

“Want some chips?” he asked her.

“Let me go. I’ll give you ten times the amount your employer is paying you,” Millie offered.

Michael replied nonchalantly, “In the underworld, we’re not motivated by money. Don’t try to buy me off. I have my principles.”

Millie pouted. “How can you talk about principles when you’re doing shady work like this? Let me go and work for me instead!”

Michael sized her up and couldn’t help but laugh. “Work for you? Are you planning to starve me to death?

Millie was baffled by Michael’s reasoning. “Sir, I’m Millie Caldwell. Would I let you suffer? You’re just insulting me!”

Michael grinned. “It’s good that you realize I’m insulting you. But take a look at your cur. nt situation. How do you expect me to work for you? You’re the kind of person who gets kidnapped so easily. I’d just be wasting my time trying to find you!”

Having said his piece, Michael grew annoyed and ordered his subordinate to tape Millie’s mouth shut.

“Is he shutting me up because he can’t argue with me? Yes, that must be it Surely he wouldn’t think I’m noisy?” Millie thought.

Yet, in the next second, Michael spat, “What a noisy woman!”

Millie was infuriated. The whole situation made no sense!

They had abducted her without asking for a ransom. So, what could they possibly want? Were they actually planning to leave her suspended until the next morning?

Millie wondered if she would suffocats inhed quietly.

As Michael munched on chips and hummed a tune, Millie gazed at the distant scenery. For some reason, she felt at peace.

“What’s the deal with you rich folks? It seems like all you do is offend others,” Michael remarked.

Millie lowered her gaze before casting a quick look at him.

Michael continued, “Ordinary people like us don’t have to deal with problems like getting kidnapped.”

However, they did have the problem of needing more money. With that, he rose and stretched.

Michael then approached Millie. He looked into the distance and said, “I wonder if by tomorrow morning you’ll be home safe or end up in a worse state.”

“Look, I’m being honest here,” he uttered while patting Millie’s slender shoulder. “You’re really skinny.”

Millie remained silent.

“Alright, now, I’m being honest.” Michael circled back to his point. “I’m having a hard time with this.”

Millie rolled her eyes. He would have been better off staying silent.

“Hey, do you have any unfulfilled dreams? I could help you achieve them,” Michael suddenly suggested enthusiastically as he sat beside Millie.

Millie shook her head. She didn’t have unfulfilled dreams.

“I saw on the news a few days ago that you and your wealthy husband got divorced. Is that right?”

Millie was taken aback by how much Michael enjoyed gossip. She stayed quiet and stared at him.

Suddenly, Michael burst out laughing. “How about we tell him you’ve been kidnapped and see how he reacts?”
