That night, Millie went out to eat alone. The restaurant was quiet in the deep hours of the night. But looking down from the 20th floor, Yerwick’s vibrant nightlife was on full display.

She cut a small piece of steak and savored it. As she recalled what had happened with Winston earlier, she felt an unexpected sense of calm.

“Oh, Mr. Webson, don’t you know me by now? I’m the most loyal person. If you fancy me, then …”

A woman’s coquettish voice reached Millie’s ears. She looked up and saw Jake with his arm around a woman. They seemed intimate as they were about to sit down.

“Tsk. What a jerk! And he claims Winston’s behavior doesn’t reflect on him. They’re the perfect example of birds of a feather flock together,” Millie grumbled to herself.

“Mr. Webson, what makes her better than me? Surely, I’m the better choice to be the face of Webson Group?”

Millie propped her head on her hand, zoning out as she listened to the woman’s complaints. It became clear that she was vying for the ambassador position. So, the “her” the woman mentioned had to be Rachel.

Millie thought the woman wasn’t even in Rachel’s league. Her friend was a top celebrity, irreplaceable and unmatched.

“Get lost.”

Suddenly, Jake’s deep voice filled Millie’s ears, and her eyes lit up.

The woman was taken aback “You.”

“What about me? I told you to get lost,” Jake snapped, his temper flaring.

Confused, the woman asked, “Why are you suddenly so upset?”

“You’re nowhere near Rachel’s level. How dare you compare yourself to her?” Jake sized the woman up and scoffed. “Do you really think you’re a big deal just because I’m having dinner with you? Leave, now!”

Realization dawned upon the woman as soon as those words left Jake’s lips. He had lost his temper because she had criticized Rachel.

But she hadn’t said anything outrageous! She’d only asked what made Rachel better than her. Jake didn’t even bother to show her some respect and simply told her to leave.

The woman felt that he was being completely unreasonable. Did he think his wealth gave him the right to act so entitled?

The woman bit her lip as she stared at Jake. Then, she couldn’t hold back her tears and shot back, “Fine! I’ll leave!”

Jake sighed, ruffling his hair in frustration before picking up his glass. Just as he was about to drink, he heard Millie chuckle.

He hesitated briefly. “Millie?” Jake called out and quickly made his way over to her.

At that moment, Millie was chewing her steak. “Yes?”

“What are you doing here?” Jake looked at her in surprise.

Millie lifted her head to gaze at him. He was wearing a flashy, multicolored suit jacket that was almost impossible to describe. Beneath it, the collar of his white shirt was streaked with lipstick smudges. His appearance gave off the air of a playb

“I’m having dinner,” Millie replied flatly.

“Millie, could you do me a favor?” Jake asked with a grin.

Right away, Millie answered, “I’m useless. I don’t have the capabilities to help you.”

Jake clicked his tongue. “I haven’t even told you what the favor is, and you’re already turning me down?”

“Yes, I’m useless,” Millie remarked. It was as if she was talking to herself.

Jake offered, “I’ll pay for dinner and buy you a bag!”

Millie looked at him with amusement, clearly indicating, “Do you really think I’d care about those worthless things?”

Jake put his hands together in a pleading gesture. “Millie, please. Is Simon planning to collaborate with Rachel?”

“Yes, that’s Simon’s plan. But I don’t know if it’s happening or not,” Millie answered truthfully.

Jake asked again, “Did you set up the connection?”

Millie hummed in response. Jake, visibly displeased, inquired, “Given how close we are, why didn’t you help me?”

“Are we that close? I don’t think so.” Millie continued eating. Her attitude made it clear that she wasn’t interested in pretending to be close to him.

“Winston’s behavior is his own issue. But you and I have known each other for ages, haven’t we?” Jake said lightly.
