Chapter 249

The car jerked to a halt, and Joanna gasped for breath, her face turning pale.

“Get out,” Winston ordered icily as his gaze swept over Joanna.

Joanna bit her lip. “Win, I know I was wrong.”

“I said, get out!” He cast another cold glance at her. Though they were just a few simple words, they were impossible to defy.

Tears welled up in Joanna’s eyes as she asked, “This is the highway. Are you going to leave me here?”

“Ms. Lowell, aren’t you extremely capable? How could a mere highway be too much for you?” Winston narrowed his eyes.

He added, “Remember this, Joanna. You can use me and bring trouble to my family. But if anything happens to Grandma, I won’t forgive you, even if you saved my life.”

While s

speaking. Winston pointed at Joanna. It was the first time he had spoken to her so gravely.

Joanna felt like she had been slapped in the face. “Is Mrs. Greer Senior really that important?”

“What do you think?” Winston countered with a frown. “Joanna, if you don’t respect Grandma, you can forget about marrying into the Greer family.”

Joanna felt utterly aggrieved. “I do respect her, but she humiliated me in front of reporters! She told me to step down from the stage and said I wanted to be your adopted sister! Win, what more can I

do?”

Yet, Winston didn’t respond and simply waited for her to get out of the car..

Right then, Joanna’s temper flared up, her emotions turbulent. “I’ve endured so much for you. Do you want me to be like Millie, serving them hand and foot like a maid?”

As soon as her words settled, Winston’s face turned cold. Did she just say Millie was a maid serving his family hand and foot?

“Get out.”

Winston couldn’t be bothered to argue with her any longer. Joanna didn’t even come close to measuring up to Millie!

In the next second, thunder rumbled in the distance.

Joanna looked up at the sky and clenched her fists before turning to Winston.

“Win, it’s going to rain…” Was he really going to leave her there?

But determination was etched on Winston’s face.

Joanna bit her lip and stared at him for quite a while. Then, she furiously opened the car door to get out and thought, “Fine! I’ll get out of the car. He’ll come back to coax me, anyway.”

The moment she slammed the car door shut, Winston drove off without hesitation.

Joanna watched his car disappear into the distance, seething with anger. “Winston Greer! You’re a jerk!”

She couldn’t believe that he had actually left her stranded.

Winston, on the other hand, glanced back at her through the rearview mirror. He realized he had been too lenient with Joanna. That was why she became arrogant and behaved without restraint.

He reckoned it was time for her to face some consequences.

However, Joanna regretted it as soon as she got out of the car. She called Winston, but he didn’t answer. So, she crouched down by the roadside and texted him.

“Win, I truly understand I’ve messed up. I promise I won’t do something like this again in the future.”

“Win…”

The rain started pouring down heavily when Winston entered the ward.

Then, he heard Gloria comment, “Wow, Yerwick has really been getting a lot of rain and snow these past few years.”

“Where have you been all afternoon?” Brian asked Winston.

Winston raised his head and noticed fresh fruits on the bedside table.

“Mills was just here to visit Grandma. She left when she saw it had started

Gloria explained.

Winston paused momentarily, and a bolt of lightning illuminated the entire city. “Did she just leave?”

“Yes, didn’t you two meet in the elevator?” asked Gloria.

Winston thought about it. He did see a familiar figure as he stepped out of the elevator earlier.

“Mills is truly a wonderful woman. Our family really lost a gem.” Gloria sighed.

If it hadn’t been for Millie looking after her so diligently after the car accident, she wouldn’t be as successful as she was today.
