Chapter 244

In the hospital garden’s pavilion, Winston asked Joanna, “Have you seen the news?”

Sitting across from him, Joanna paused briefly before nodding. “Yes, I know about it.”

“There are a lot of negative comments, but don’t take them to heart. They’re not important, okay?” Winston comforted her with a frown.

He feared that the harsh comments would lead to more issues for Joanna. Everything was chaotic enough as it was

“I understand, Win.” Joanna nodded obediently. “But Win, do you know who leaked the news?”

Winston cast her a quick look, an inexplicable irritation rising at the mention of it. Eli was still investigating the matter.

“Win, I…” Joanna parted her lips. It seemed like she had something to say.

Winston adjusted his collar and looked up at her. “Do you have something to say?”

His voice became more somber, causing Joanna to hesitate. Already annoyed, Winston grew more impatient at her stammering. “Just spit it out!”

Joanna pressed her lips together, rose, and moved to sit beside Winston. Then, she reached out to hold his arm.

Winston’s eyes followed her

as his gaze moved from her hand to her face. She looked pitiful, as if she was reluctant to speak but had no other choice.

“Win, I think Millie might be the one who leaked the news.”

Winston froze momentarily. While he had suspected Millie himself, hearing it

from Joanna still unsettled him.

“Don’t make accusations without evidence,” he replied with displeasure.

His words elicited a frown from Joanna. In the past, whenever she accused Millie, Winston would believe her and confront Millie, But now he told her not to make accusations without evidence.

Joanna refused to accept it and pressed on, “Millie doesn’t like me, so she wants to get rid of me-

“Joanna.” Winston cut her off with a deep voice.

Joanna lifted her head and stared at him. “She hates me because I took you away from her, and she’s trying to get revenge!

“First, she dug up the Snowdrop incident to shame my family. And now, she accused me of being a mistress. Isn’t it obvious she’s trying to destroy me?”

Tears welled up in Joanna’s eyes as she continued, “Win, you know I’ve never asked for anything from you all these years. I never even pressured you to get a divorce. But being labeled as a mistress is just too much.”

She lowered her head after saying that. Almost instantly, tears began to stream down her cheeks.

Winston gazed at Joanna, emotions surging like a whirlwind from within him.

“I’m willing to accept everyone’s criticism. Maybe I was truly in the wrong. But Win…”

He heard her choking up, her voice carrying a sense of grievance as she added, “If things continue like this, I don’t know how much longer I can endure.”

Winston felt deeply conflicted. He raised his hand and gently patted Joanna’s shoulder.

She then wrapped her arms around his waist and sobbed in his arms. “Win, I really don’t understand why Millie is determined to drive me to the brink like

this.”

“Joanna, I’ll get to the bottom of this and give you an answer.”

Winston lowered his gaze, calming Joanna’s emotions. She looked up, tears glistening in her eyes.

Not far away from them, Millie’s footsteps slowly stopped. As she observed the two hugging before her, she frowned slightly before slowly approaching them.

Despite witnessing their embraces countless times before, for some reason, her heart would pound violently whenever she saw them together.

Millie pursed her lips, clenched her fists, and said flatly, “Grandma’s fine. Mom sent me to call you back.”

Winston looked up when he heard that and met Millie’s indifferent gaze. He promptly withdrew his hand from Joanna’s head as he began to stand. However, Joanna held him tightly.
