Seven Days Seven Nights

Chapter 162

Chapter 162 First Day At Work
Nancy shook her head. “It’s nothing!” Some things had been repeated twice, and she didn’t have the courage to say it a third
time. “Since I’m your younger sister, I should play my part, and you should fulfill your duty as the older brother.” Afterward, she
quickly closed the door and left.
The rush of emotions, combined with the cold night air, sobered her up considerably. Initially, she had thought of leaving but gave
up when she opened the door and saw the pitch-black darkness outside, shivering from the cold while wearing only her pajamas.
After hesitating for a moment, she turned around and entered the guest room. Perhaps due to the alcohol, she felt warm under
the covers, and drowsiness soon overcame her.
The next day, Nancy’s alarm rang early in the morning. She didn’t stay in bed and immediately got up after the alarm went off.
Fortunately, she had too many clothes and hadn’t brought all of them with her when she moved, so there were still plenty of
clothes she could wear. When she came downstairs after washing up, she saw Nicholas was already there and had prepared
breakfast. “Come over and eat with
me.”
Although Nicholas had gotten on Nancy’s nerves the previous night, he was still worried that she might wake up with a headache
or an upset stomach from the alcohol. Therefore, he woke up early and made her breakfast.
She checked the time and then looked at the spread of food on the table. She couldn’t help but feel tempted. However, she still
held onto her pride. “No, thank you. Today is my first day of work, and I’m about to be late.”
Seeing her walking away, he called out to her, “It’s desolate out here. Are you sure you can get a cab? Sit down and have
breakfast. I’ll send you to work after you’re finished.”
Nancy had no choice but to admit that Nicholas had her cornered. It was indeed difficult to hail a cab out here. While it was
possible to get one, she would certainly be late by the time it arrived. “Are you sure you’ll take me to the hospital?” she asked,
unsure.
“Do I look like I’m lying?”
She stopped talking and began eating her breakfast. The food was just the right temperature. The oatmeal, in particular, was
prepared perfectly, with the texture she liked. It warmed her belly as she ate it. Once she was done, she thanked him sincerely,
and they left in his car.

The journey took about half an hour, which passed quickly. Upon arriving, Nancy took out her phone. and transferred some
money to Nicholas. “Thank you. I don’t want to owe you anything.”
He looked at the cash he received and was quite exasperated. That woman treated him like a chauffeur.
Once at the hospital, Nancy first went to the HR department to report for work, and then she went to find her mentor, who
happened to be Evelyn.
When she saw Evelyn, she felt that the other person seemed particularly warm and familiar. Evelyn’s full name was Evelyn
Yancy, a rare talent in the field of cardiac surgery and a leading expert in cardiology. As a woman, achieving the rank of
professor in cardiology at her age and being able to stand out among a crowd of male doctors was truly remarkable. Therefore,
Nancy had a sincere admiration for her.

She remembered during her studies, her professor had shared some stories about Evelyn. He mentioned Evelyn was a medical
fanatic and would stay away from home for months on end just to finish her research.
At the tine, Nancy didn’t fully understand his words, so she went back and did some research of her own. Just reading the
Wikipedia page about Evelyn was enough to leave Nancy in awe, not to mention the depth of the content. At that moment, she
quietly harbored a small wish-to become Evelyn’s mentee and work under her someday. She never thought it would actually
come true.
When Nancy entered her mentor’s office, Evelyn was in the middle of reprimanding someone. Her voice resonated with authority,
and her demeanor was notably stern. This stark contrast was a far cry from the Evelyn that Nancy had encountered during the
dinner with her classmates, leaving Nancy taken aback.
She stood at the door, hesitating to interrupt, and patiently waited for Evelyn to complete her task before entering the room. As
Nancy finally stepped inside, a surreal feeling washed over her, filling her with disbelief and momentarily leaving her in a daze as
she gazed into space.
Evelyn spoke up first. “Did I scare you?”
Nancy immediately shook her head, then asked, “No, it’s just that I’m not sure how to address you. Should I call you Mrs. Moore
or follow everyone else and call you Professor Yancy?”
Evelyn smiled and shook her head kindly. “Both are wrong?”

“What?” Nancy was instantly flustered.
“In the hospital, you can call me Dr. Yancy, just like everyone else. In private, you can call me Mrs. Moore.
“Sure, Dr. Yancy. I came to report for work today.”
Evelyn nodded in satisfaction and then asked, “Were you startled by hearing me scold someone on your first day?”
“Nope.” Nancy quickly shook her head.
“Since you happened to witness it, I’ll give you a bit of a warning. I’ll do my best to take care of you guys off work, but I’m known
for being strict at work. I won’t tolerate any sloppiness. Mistakes are allowed, but try to avoid them. Repeating the same mistake
or blatant negligence is absolutely. unacceptable. Also, your attitude in this industry is crucial. Take your time to understand
these things.”
After reporting to her mentor, Nancy returned to the HR department.
The HR department had arranged an orientation for new employees, mainly introducing them to the hospital and the various
rules and regulations they were expected to follow..
The morning passed quickly, and the orientation was relatively easygoing. At noon, Nancy went to the cafeteria and had just
joined the line when there was suddenly a burst of cheers from inside the
cafeteria.
Following that, she saw everyone looking at her with a smile. The younger female doctors and nurses, in particular, were
beaming and had radiant smiles. Even Nancy, a woman, couldn’t resist their smiles.

She was puzzled. Such a warm reception couldn’t possibly be for a new employee like her. So, why were they beaming?
Finally, after getting her lunch, Nancy found a random seat and sat down. Immediately, Toni Bailey eagerly sat down beside her.
Toni was Nancy’s colleague who had started work at the same time as her and was also in the same department. They had gone
through the morning’s orientation together, so they were already quite. familiar with each other.

“Hey, Nancy, did you see that just now?” Toni asked excitedly.
“See what?” Nancy couldn’t make sense of it.
“Mr. Jadin!” Toni didn’t even touch her food as she spoke excitedly and sternly.
Upon hearing the name, she was momentarily stunned, and then her face displayed a look of disbelief. “Jaded? Is that
someone’s name?”
“More or less. That’s what everyone calls him.”
“What?” Nancy was shocked once again. She blinked her eyes, unable to believe what she had just heard. “Are you certain that
person’s name is Jaded? The word that means overworked or worn out? Did someone randomly give him that name? It sounds
awkward somehow.”
After Nancy finished speaking. Toni was the one left in a state of shock. She had just taken a bite of her food but was so taken
aback by Nancy’s words that she ended up swallowing it whole, choking in the process.
Toni reached for her cup and was about to take a sip of water when suddenly, a strikingly handsome. and gentle-looking man sat
diagonally across from her, two seats away from Nancy.
Gazing at the familiar and captivating face, Toni was instantly speechless and stammered, “M-Mr. Jadin, h-hello!”
Nancy overheard and turned to her side, gathering the courage to greet him. “Mr. Jaded, hello!”
