Chapter 93 -
Asher decided to leave the clubhouse after staying for a while.
After he got into his car, he looked at the time. It was almost time to get off work. Asher then called Noelle's number. When she picked up his call, he said to her, "I'm back. I'll pick you up at the company and have dinner afterward."
"I probably won't have the time today. I have an appointment with a very important client. You should have dinner on your own. No need to wait for me."
Asher still wanted to say something, but Noelle had already hung up his call.
Asher frowned as he lit up a cigarette. Noelle was strangely cold toward him. There was no joy in
her voice when she heard that he was back, and it made him very uncomfortable.
After giving the cigarette a few more puffs, Asher flicked the cigarette butt away and then drove directly to the Steward Corporation.
Once outside the company, Asher stayed inside the car and waited for Noelle to leave. After about ten minutes, staff from the company began to leave. However, Asher did not see Noelle at all.
There were a lot of people shuffling in and out for a few minutes, and most of them were soon gone. Only then did a familiar figure appear in Asher's eyes. It was indeed Noelle.
Asher was just about to get down from the car when a Mercedes Benz suddenly drove by and stopped in front of the company. The car window was wound down, revealing a young man no older than thirty years old that was driving the car. He honked and then waved his hand at Noelle.
When Asher saw what was happening, he instantly stopped himself from getting down from the car. Instead, he wanted to see just what Noelle was up to.
Noelle had just left the company and was walking directly toward the Mercedes Benz with a faint smile on her face.
Asher could not hear what they were saying because of the distance. All he saw was Noelle entering the car of that stranger which then drove away.
It was only at this time that a hint of anger slowly appeared on his face. After a moment, he stepped on the gas and followed the Mercedes Benz in front of him.
The Mercedes Benz was cruising at a low speed, and it finally stopped in front of a restaurant about half an hour later. Asher then saw Noelle walk into the restaurant with that man.
Could it be that the important client was the man in front of him?
The restaurant had a good atmosphere. Each sofa was quite tall, and they could hide a man perfectly well when seated even if he was 6-foot tall.
However, Asher could hear the conversation between Noelle and the man, so he immediately walked over and sat on a sofa behind Noelle.
"This restaurant serves the best steak in the entirety of Rollinsford. If they were to call themselves number two, no one would be bold enough to call themselves number one," The man said with a smile and ordered casually. He then continued, "When we were at university, I was several years your senior, right? I remember I saw you once during an activity organized by the university. You were already quite beautiful back then, haha."
"Oh? I didn't know that you're my senior." It took a lot of effort for Noelle to decide to have dinner alone with Tony. To spend time with someone she did not like alone... That alone was torture for her.
"Perhaps this is fate," Tony said with a smile. After a moment of silence, he continued, "Noelle, you know about the feelings that I have for you. I've always liked you since several years ago. When I heard that you got married, I almost fainted from crying too hard. I thought that we'll never have a chance to be together, but I didn't think that God is watching over me, allowing me to see you when it's time for me to get married. What I want to say is, if you don't have any objections, should we find a time so that we can meet our respective parents?"
"Huh?" Noelle was stunned. To be perfectly honest, Noelle did not expect to hear something like this from Tony. They had only become closer in the past three or four days. The request was beyond her expectations, and it was also too sudden.
The only reason she was interacting with Tony was because she was mad with Asher. She did not want to have more to do with Tony.
Noelle was caught off guard when she was asked that question out of the blue, and so she said, "Isn't it a bit too fast? I'm not ready yet."
Tony did not give up. Instead, he pushed on, saying, "I know that this is too fast, especially when we've just gotten together. However, we've known each other for some time. You know the person that I am. To be honest, there are plenty of beautiful women in my dad's company. However, only you remain in my heart. Noelle, please believe me. I'm being sincere with you. I guarantee that I will only treat you well. I don't like to force others... However, I want to force you when it comes to this. That's because I love you so much, Noelle. Please, do as I ask. Can we please find a time to see our respective parents?"
Noelle knew who she loved more and knew who she wanted to get married with. If Tony wanted to see her parents, then she had no choice but to reject him. There was a threshold to
everything. If Asher found out that they had met each other's parents, he would never forgive her.
She was not one to play with fire when she knew it would consume her.
Just when Noelle was about to reject his proposal, a familiar voice came from behind her, "There's no need for that. I'll agree to it on her behalf!"
Noelle did not expect that Asher would be sitting behind her. When she heard what he said, she quickly stood up only to be greeted by Asher's icy cold expression. She had never seen him so distant and cold. Noelle's heart skipped a beat, and she realized that she might have taken things too far. She quickly explained, "Asher, this is a misunderstanding. Tony and I are just ordinary friends!"
"Is that so?" Asher suddenly snorted coldly. "I thought that he was just a client of yours. Noelle, if you like him, just agree to it. There's no need to consider my feelings."
At this time, even Tony was caught unprepared. If it were some other man, Tony would not even bat an eye. However, the man in front of them was Asher Crawford, a man that could change the entire outlook of Rollinsford. Even the best among them would not dare to flaunt their arrogance before him, let alone someone like Tony who had not made a name for himself yet.
Tony was worried about Asher's revenge, so he said, "Asher, I know that you're someone very influential, and you're not someone that I can deal with, but I hope that we can have a fair competition when it comes to Noelle."
Tony acted preemptively to stop Asher from finding any excuse to retaliate.
"Fair competition?" Asher approached their table with a chilling smile on his face as he said, "You are overestimating me. If I have the ability to beat you up, why would I want to have a fair competition?"
After saying so, Asher grabbed the bottle of red wine on the table and immediately smashed it on Tony's head. There was a crash and the bottle shattered, and the red wine instantly dyed Tony's coat red.
"Ah!"
A few young women next to them screamed before covering their mouths.
"Your name's Tony Jacobson, huh? Remember, I didn't hit you because of Noelle, I hit you because I don't like you! As for chasing after her... that's your own right!" With that, Asher grabbed some tissue paper to clean his hand as he walked out.
"Asher!"
Noelle quickly chased after him. However, when she reached the restaurant's entrance, Asher had already driven away, leaving her with nothing but the booming sound from the car engine.
It was at that moment Noelle's eyes became dull as her expression was filled with regret. She knew that Asher was really angry this time, and knew that he would not forgive her easily. Noelle regretted it. Why did she go along with Candace's stupid idea? She knew that it would only make Asher angry. Why did she still do it anyway?
Noelle wanted to chase after him and explain everything to him, but Asher's car had already disappeared from her view. She quickly grabbed her mobile and gave Asher a call, but Asher did not pick up at all.
Afterward, Noelle called a taxi home. She was holding one last hope that Asher would go back home, but it was empty. It was clear that Asher did not come home.
She sat on the sofa as her eyes began to well up, and tears started streaming down her face. Noelle, you're such a fool!
Noelle was very remorseful. At this time, her mobile phone on the coffee table began to ring.
She quickly picked it up, only to see that it was Candace calling her.
Noelle adjusted her emotion for a while before finally picking it up.
