He called several times, getting no response. The living room was empty, filling him with dread. He rushed to the bedroom but stopped at the door. He felt like opening it would erase Julia from his life. The thought intensified.

He

retreated to the living room,

telling himself, "It's okay. I'm overreacting."

He took a deep breath, opened the bedroom door....

The living room and bedroom were empty. He scanned the house, realizing how empty it was. Things related to her were missing; it felt cold and desolate.

He clenched his fists, looking at a note on the dresser.

"Captain

Mond,

I'm

gone. Hope you

and Sierra enjoy all 108 positions!"

Shaw felt a crushing weight in his chest. He crumpled the note, his heart aching. Gone? Where did she go?

He couldn't believe that. He needed to explain. Julia was his girlfriend ans she was just playing hard to get. Girls did that sometimes.

He pulled out his phone, dialing Julia's number. His usually steady hand trembled A recorded message played, repeating until the call ended.

Shaw suppressed his emotions, examining the apartment again. He'd lived with Julia for five years, but hadn't noticed anything. The photo wall was gone, her favorite artwork was gone, even her towels and toothbrush were gone. She was completely gone.

He ran into the bedroom and opened the closet. It was empty except for his uniforms. He slapped himself.

"Shaw, you idiot."

He knew how much she loved the photo wall. He didn't even think about it. And he was fooled by Julia's excuse about the missing clothes.

If he'd been more attentive...

Where was she? Why didn't she talk to him? Even if it was a breakup, he deserved to know!

She loved flying; she wouldn't just disappear. He went to Skyways and found Director Thompson. "Director, where's Julia?"
