Rift in the perfect picture

Chapter 395

Chapter 0395

I was slightly confused. “A secret? About who?”

“About you,” Pete said firmly despite his tense expression.

“Oh. Tell me then.” I didn’t believe Pote could know any secrets about me.

Ever since I had a small name for myself on social media, be it for something good or something bad, but almost everything about me had been dug up and displayed on the Internet. What secrets could I possibly have?

Pete took a deep breath. “Ari…”

He gritted his teeth as he swallowed the words that had been on the tip of his tongue. It seemed to be something hard for him to reveal as his head was hung low.

I was also feeling slightly anxious as I wanted him to hurry up and rush back to his wedding. “Well tell me then.

Suddenly, he looked up at me with a pained expression “I always thought I would have a chance to be with you if you didn’t know about it.

“That way, you would be able to be with me without any worries or restraints. But I was wrong, and I had lost completely. Ari, actually, you and-

Suddenly, there was a loud knock coming from the other side of the door, causing Pete to immediately

fall silent.

We locked eyes and saw the panic in each other’s eyes. It was only then did Yasmine’s voice sounded

from outside.

“Ari, open the door!”

I sighed in relief and turned to look at Pete. “It’s Yasmine. There’s no need for you to worry about her. You can say whatever you want to say. I don’t have any secrets between us.”

Although I had said that, I had forgotten that Yasmine wasn’t alone. Leo came swaggering in with Yasmine. The second he saw Pete and I, a meaningful look spread across his face.

“Mr. Shelman, I did not expect to see you here. Here’s a gift from me to congratulate you on your marriage. Should I give it to you now, or should I wait until we return to the wedding venue?”

There was a small hint of rage on Pete’s face. He had personally instructed his secretary to buy Leo his plane ticket.

Pete glanced at Leo before looking away. He could not be bothered to answer Leo after being interrupted halfway through his conversation with Ariana.

I was also feeling slightly exasperated as I knew there was no way for us to finish our conversation.

“Let’s go.” I turned to look at Pete and asked, “Will you come with us, or will you return on your own?”

It’ll be slightly troublesome if Pete and I were spotted together. So, I added, “It’ll be much quicker if you return on your own.”

I reached my hand out, wanting Yasmine to help support me, but she didn’t seem to get the hint. On the other hand, Pete walked up to me and asked in a deep voice, “Are you able to walk?” “Ari, are you alright?” Yasmine asked after noticing that my movements were slightly slow.

I was just about to say that I was fine when I was swept off my feet. Pete carried me up, and I heard him say, “I’ll just bring you to the car.”

Inside the car, the atmosphere was slightly tense.

Pete said, “Don’t worry, m–my wife said she’d help me hold Nicholas off.”

Leo seemed intrigued. His gaze kept falling between Pete and me as he said, “Actually, what exactly is happening right now?

“I’ve only joined in on the drama halfway through, so I don’t really understand what’s going on. Could someone explain it to me?”

Yasmine rolled her eyes and reached out to cover his mouth. She smiled and said, “Darling, just shut your mouth.”

Leo obediently nodded in silence. I sighed silently. It seemed like Pete also knew that Annie had no feelings for him, but it seemed like he had accepted it as he called Annie his wife.

Thinking back about Annie’s words, perhaps Pere also wanted Annie and Nicholas to get together.

Pete’s wedding

ng was held in his family’s villa. The green lawn had been decorated to exude a romantic atmosphere.

I could see several well–dressed guests with wine glasses in their hands while they mingled around.

The car drove to the gardens at the back. We entered the villa through the underground basement. It was almost as if we were partaking in a secret transaction or something.

Our goal now was to head to Annie’s powder room to call Nicholas out.

It was my first time being in Pete’s house in Gowland, but I wasn’t in the mood to admire his home. His house was too big and, even though Yasmine was supporting me, I still struggled with each step.

By the time we finally arrived at the powder room, I was already exhausted and covered in a sheen layer

of sweat.

When we reached the door, Pete turned to look at me. There was a heavy expression on his face as he pursed his lips tightly. His usually bright and confident eyes had also sharpened considerably.

Although he did not speak, I could hear the silent goodbyes he was saying.

He was telling me that the second he pushed open that door, he would be someone else’s husband. He would have the responsibility to carry on his new family.

Some feelings were meant to be buried deep until even Pete himself forgot that he had once had them.

I met his gaze and answered his grand farewell. After seconds that felt like an eternity, he smiled. At that moment, both of us had let go of our relationship.

“Congratulations on your wedding!” I said to him.

“I hope you’ll find your happiness,” he said to me.

He turned around and took a deep breath. He used his hands to stiffly pat his cheeks as he forced a smile on his face.

The second he opened the door, Nicholas‘ deep voice sounded from inside the powder room.

“I am not interested in you. I don’t like people who throw themselves at me. If you use Ariana to trick me again, then I’ll stop any collaborations we have immediately.”
