Chapter 427
Without the fashion show, all our hard work would've been for nothing. Was all the effort I put in about to go down the drain?
Lianne leaned in and whispered, "Evelyn, don't worry. All we need to do is present the original drafts, and we can prove you're innocent. I believe the officers will see the truth and make sure you get justice." I managed a grim smile, too upset to appreciate her comfort. I felt like my heart was hanging by a thread, ready to drop and shatter at any second.
Ethan couldn't keep it in anymore. He stormed up to Whitney and grabbed her by the collar.
His eyes were burning with rage as he roared, "What are you two even up to? Are you two under the impression that all the bad stuff you've done isn't enough? Why destroy Evelyn's dream? What are you plotting?"
Whitney gasped for air under his grip, her face turning crimson, but she still managed a sneer. "Mr. Grayson, you're seriously underestimating us, aren't you? All we're doing is seeking justice and defending our rights. Grayson Group doesn't get to make all the rules. Us regular people have dignity, too!"
With a smirk, Caroline chimed in, "Exactly, Mr. Grayson. Do you think we're all fools? Evelyn clearly plagiarized Ms. Fenton's designs, yet you're still twisting the facts. Do you think you can do whatever you please because you've got power and connections?" "You!" Ethan fumed, his body shaking with anger. He would've punched them if I hadn't held him back.
I fought back tears and said shakily, "Officer, please, just give me a little more time. 24 hours-no, 12 hours! 12 hours, that's all I ask. I'll gather all the proof to clear my name!"
Officer Watson thought it over and nodded. "Alright, but this is your one chance. If you can't back it up with proof, I'll have to consider it an infringement. I hope you understand the consequences."
I nodded firmly.
"Evelyn, don't worry. I'm with you. Let's hurry back and find the proof," Lianne whispered.
I nodded without thinking, feeling like the world was crashing down. My dream, once full of hope, had flipped into a nightmare in no time at all.
I wanted nothing more than to run away, but I had to pull myself together and face what was coming.
Ethan shot a cold, murderous look at Whitney and Caroline. He wanted to rip these hateful women to shreds, but he forced himself to stay calm and come up with a plan.
Whitney and Caroline looked even more smug. They surveyed the crowd, satisfaction written all over their faces.
The crowd was buzzing with
whispers some shaking their heads and sighing, others grinning, eager to see Grayson Group fall. The whole plaza drowned in noise and
chaos.
I felt like my very soul was being ripped apart.
Ethan pulled me into his arms and whispered, "Evelyn, don't be afraid. They're just losers. If we don't make it this time, there's always next time."
I looked up at him through my tears, managing a bitter smile.
Then, I took a deep breath, turned to the restless crowd, and said confidently, "Listen up, everyone! I Evelyn Wiley, swear I've never stolen anyone's designs! What I create comes from my experiences and life it's all original!
"All I ask is for the chance to prove my innocence. If I fail, I'll face whatever consequences come my way, but until then, please don't dismiss my efforts and dreams!"
My words rang loud and clear across the plaza.
Silence spread through the crowd as they turned their attention to me. Some of them nodded in quiet agreement, while others remained unsure and unconvinced.
