Chapter 55

Regan POV

Isabelle looks pitiful in the wheelchair. The elders stand there, looking at the girl, some with sympathy, while Xander and Navier cast scathing glances at her. I can feel myself beginning to tremble, as the elders wait for the Alpha twins to speak. The elders are earlier than anybody expected them to be. We tight we might have a few more days at best, but that looks as though we were wrong. Dead wrong. Had Isabelle had some knowledge they were here and that's why she had started to stir up trouble?

"Elders" Xavier bows his head respectfully thwards the small group that are clustered together in front of us. "Forgive our rudeness. We were not expecting you to tum up quite so soon."

"That is evident," the man at the front, with a large bushy beard and white hair said with a snort and a look of disapproval on his face. However, that is no excuse for how this girl is now being treated. It's obvious that she is unable to cause any trouble. in the condition she is currently in and yet you are treating her with hostility, as though she is some sort of enemy. What exactly are you celebrating?" he asked, tilting his head and regarding the Alpha twins silently, a questioning expression on

his face.

I can feel myself glancing at the twins as my anxiety begins to grow. I am afraid of the elders. They intimidate me. They have the power to abolish packs if they choose to. The pack is silent as everybody waits for the twins to speak up. Alpha Jackson, or rather the twins's father is silent, watching his sons as they are officially in charge of the pack now and he won't interfere unless he deems it necessary. He trusts his sons to take care of this.

"We are celebrating our mate's eighteenth birthday party sir" Xander speaks up respectfully, even as they continue to stand. in front of me protectively.

This of course, only makes the elders even more curious, their heads craning as they try to look at me more closely.

"Who is your mate?" one of the elder women asks, their voices tinged with curiosity.

"I am," I said quietly, shocking myself and the twins.

This was the first time I had openly acknowledged it out loud and to another group of people no less. I swallowed nervously as the elders glanced at me, some of them looking at my neck and taking note of the twin's mark on me that was visible to their eyes. "You are marked," The first man said and then looked at the Alpha twins. "But neither of you are?" he raised a brow, looking thoughtful.

Shit. That hadn't occurred to me that could be a problem. While the twins had marked me without my consent, I was not about to mark them until I felt like I was ready to. I clutched both of my hands together, wringing them, while Isabelle smiled viciously in the background, a look of triumph on her face. She was enjoying this, enjoying our discomfort as the. elders continued to press us for information

"No sir, that is for our mate to decide, Xavier said steadily, refusing to be intimidated.

"Dominick they are young, another elder said to the first man, her tone surprisingly gentle, "does it matter that the Alphas have not been marked?" she asked.

Dominick frowned. "Actually, in this instance it does, considering we are here to hear Isabelle Ramona's case against the Alpha twine. If she has been wronged, there is every chance that she could retain the title of their chosen mate as intended, if the Alpha twins have not stuck to their word or broken a contract illegally."

No. No way He had to be kidding 7 stared at the elders in disbelief, while Isabelle continued to gloat in the background, her smile growing wider and wider. Xavier looked at the elders angrily. "You have no right to do that he snarled, looking on the verge of attacking, his hands clenching into fists as I eyed him nervously, wondering if I needed to step in and prevent him.

"We have every right" Dominick countered back, sneering at Xavier and ignoring his clenched hands, as the other elders nodded, shining awkwardly on their feet. "It is why we are the elders and why we are here. Not to mention oversering your father's trial as well" he concluded. "However, that is all something that can wait until the morrow" he added, glancing around at the park members who were all staring hard at him.

If anything. Dominick looked pleased with the reaction he was receiving from the pack, as though he enjoyed antagonizing

everyone.

"I think that is an excellent idea" Alpha Jackson strode forward, Leaking up the tension and speaking quietly. "My sons are celebrating with their mate right now. Please, allow me to show you to your accommodations he suggested as I tried not to breath a sigh of relief that the chilers would be gone.

I no longer felt like celebrating my birthday, more worried about the elders and the so-called trials tomorrow as the Alpha shot a glance at his sons, warning them to behave.

The elders sighed but nodded, looking grateful. Dominick glanced at the Alpha twins, his lower lip curling. "Very well. I expect to see you and elle Ramona in the study tomorrow morning to discuss this matter, as well as Regan Lourdes. For now, Isabelle remains at this party, like any other pack member, until this matter is resolved" he added as Xavier and Xander stood there motionless.

"Thank you so much Alpha Dominick," Isabelle's voice is gleeful as we glare at her and Heather. "I appreciate your compassion towards me"

Dominick inclines his head.."I hope that you are able to recover fully Miss Ramona," he said gravely, glancing at Isabelle and shaking his head "and that you get a good night's rest in preparation for what you are going to undertake tomorrow

"I'm sure that I will," Isabelle said, smiling cunningly at us as the elders began to silently follow behind Alpha Jackson.

I looked at the twins who were both clenching their jaws as they glared at the back of the elders. Both of them looked fit to be tied, their frustration evident by the stiffness of their posture and the darkness that was brewing in their eyes.

"Xander" I put a hand on his arm and then turned to Xavier "Xavier, the elders can't do that, can they?" I asked lowly, "They) can't make you take Isabelle for your mate if you don't want to surely?"

Xavier looks guarded. "It's unusual for an elder to show this much interest in pack business to begin with but if they rule that we broke some sort of contract illegally, or wronged Isabelle in a way that is deemed to make it detrimental for her to ever be able to make a match or pairing in this pack or subjects her to what they deem a threat to her existence, then they may make us do just that" he said as my mouth parted in shock.

"It won't happen," Xander said, trying to sound reassuring "We were careful with the contract and how we worded it. Even though we broke it. Isabelle knew the possibility that we would find our mate. Not only that but there are other ways to make things right if the elders deem that we are in the wrong."

But my heart was already beginning to sink as I looked at the glint in Isabelle's eyes. She looked smug, as did Claudia. As though she knew something we didn't. I felt unc

"What kind of ways?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

Xander and Xavier looked at each other. "We can offer reparations, such as money, property, and stocks in our various companies, Xander said quietly,

Looking at my stepsister though, I had my doubts that she would go for that. She wanted my mates, I could tell I gritted my

teeth.

How could you decide something like that? How could I?

His tone was filled with despair at the very thought of doing something like that, while my anger was growing. Take one of my mates from me? To only have one of them, made my heart begin to feel as though somebody's hand was squeezing it from the inside. The thought of separating the twins from me killed me inside. I had never realized how much; I had enjoyed having both of them as my mates until right then. I would not let Isabelle get her greedy grubby little hands on any of them, I vowed, looking her right in the eyes, no matter what I had to do to keep them. Even if it meant, I had to do something that would be against their so-called rules and regulations. My wolf began to whisper into my ear, while I listened, prepared to give the fight of my life, if it came down to it.
