Chapter Refusing To Be 104
Chapter 104
The night view of Starlight Road is famously beautiful, with bright lights shimmering on the wide asphalt road, like a road to heaven that stretches all the way to the unseen distance.
Aveline lowered the car window, letting the sea breeze blow in.
The cool sea breeze poured into her neck, making her heart feel chilled.
Maya controlled the steering wheel while reminding her, "Don't catch a cold."
"Just let it blow for a while." Aveline rested her hands on the car window, leaned her head on her arm, closed her eyes, and enjoyed the freedom brought by the wind.
"Maya, I've made up my mind. After I die, you can scatter my ashes into the sea."
Maya suddenly hit the brakes and stopped the car by the roadside. "Anabelle, it's not funny to joke like this in the middle of the night."
Aveline pushed open the car door and got out, breathing in the sea breeze with its distinct smell. "Originally, I wanted to buy back the Blackwood's family mansion and have you bury me under the plum tree in my family's yard. It would be fitting for me to return to where I came from. Besides, my father will never see me again in this lifetime.But..."
Aveline paused when she said this. "He didn't give me this opportunity. Well, it doesn't matter. After all, ashes are just ashes, and it doesn't make much difference where they are buried."
Maya was already hugging her and crying. "How can it not matter? If you are buried at the place you want, I can visit you and pay my respects. If you are buried in the sea, do I have to go find the Dragon King to borrow a water-avoiding pearl just to see you?"
Aveline chuckled at her teasing. "You, you're such a funny person."
"Aveline, look, you look so beautiful when you smile. Can you smile more?"
"Okay." Aveline lifted the corners of her mouth high. "Actually, after experiencing so much, I have come to accept many things. Life is like this. The more we want certain things, certain people, the harder they are to attain."
"But upon careful thought, I once wholeheartedly loved someone and experienced the emotions that only exist in words. Now, everything has drifted away with the wind, and I should let go."
Maya held her tightly, unable to let go for a long time. At this moment, she blamed herself for being ordinary, without power or wealth, to the point where she was helpless in helping Aveline.
Every time this happened, she felt extreme disgust towards those capitalists who stood above the world. They easily took away everything that others cherished.
She secretly vowed that one day she would earn a lot of money and climb to the place she hated the most,
to look down on this world.
But at that time, would the person she most wanted to protect still be there?
Maya took Aveline to a barbecue restaurant by the seaside. Aveline ordered a bowl of plain porridge and watched Maya enjoy her skewers and drink, venting her frustrations.
Tonight, she had said a hundred times that she wanted to skewer Alexander and Nora and grill them on the barbecue grill.
As Aveline drank her porridge, she smiled and opened her phone.
The conversation box that had always been pinned to the top, with the nickname changed to "Mr. Sterling,"
Aveline clicked on his profile picture.
His profile picture hadn't changed, it was still a set of couple photos they took together. He was in black, and she was in white.
If you clicked to enlarge it, you would see a woman in his black shadow, and in her profile picture, his shadow was there.
Back then, she was still proud of her photography skills, saying that this was called "You are in me, I am in you, inseparable like shadows."
Aveline pressed the delete contact button. When that pinned message disappeared, it was as if he had completely disappeared from her world.
