Refusing my Alpha mate

Chapter 3

Arthur

She was looking at me, staring deeply at me, but when our eyes met, she looked away and walked to the outdoor balcony. Clair was wearing a tight red dress that covered her collarbones, but which marked her waist more, and made her curves even more evident, her red hair was tied up like a bun on top of her head and some strands of it went down her face and back. She was beautiful as always, and driving me crazy like never before. Seeing her like this made my body light up and my heat rise, my suit was suddenly tight and uncomfortable, and I needed to talk to her. As she greeted all the Alphas present, my eyes went to the balcony, seeing her back looking at the landscape, and when I finally greeted everyone, I went to the balcony door.

"Were you watching me when I arrived?" I asked standing in the doorway, I saw her turn her face to the side, and I felt a light breeze that passed through her body and reached mine, bringing the sweet and floral smell that she had and making my wolf growl inside my chest. I saw her swallow hard as she turned to me.

"I was waiting for your family, you were late." She said, raising her eyebrows with a smug look.

"No, we weren't, we arrived on time." I said walking up to the balcony too. "But if you want to know, we took a while to get here because my father was sick in the car." I said it almost like a whisper, a confession. This subject affected me, and I wouldn't tell anyone about it, nor did I have any idea why I told her. I rested my elbows on the balcony and turned forward, facing the forest.

Clair's eyes widened, I saw her swallow hard again, and then she joined me, supporting her elbows too.

"Is it because of the medicine?" She asked softly as if she was afraid of my answer.

"Yes, he had a dose of chemotherapy yesterday afternoon, and he gots very sick afterwards, my mother said he didn't need to come, but you know my father." I said trying to smile.

"He wouldn't miss a party for anything. Clair added and smiled too.

I'm not sure how much time passed, but we stayed together just looking at the scenery and enjoying each other's company. I have to confess that I didn't quite understand it, but I liked being around her. Until a knock from the door behind us made us both turn around.

"Clair darling, it's time for the dance." It was Ethan, he was a tall and strong man, with green eyes and brown hair, which was now gray on the side due to age. He extended his hand to Clair, who took it and followed him into the hall, but before walking through the doors that divided the spaces, she looked at me over her shoulder. And that simple look made my entire body shiver.

"I declare the Ball officially begun." Ethan and Clair got in the salon and he announced into the wind, and as soon as his last word was spoken the orchestra began to play, and he pulled Clair into his arms as he danced beautifully with his daughter in the ballroom.

I smiled, watching the two dance, and that slutty redhead who always wanted to look so tough, there looked like a princess dancing so softly that her feet barely seemed to touch the floor. I turned to my parents who were supposed to join the other Alphas and Lunas who were composing the dance with Clair and Ethan, but my father swallowed hard and put his hand in front of his lips before sitting down.

"Aren't you okay, darling?" My mother's words only made my father shake his head, his bile was visible rising and falling through his esophagus, he was definitely not going to dance today.

"But dance with your mother, Arthur." He said making a gesture with his hand. "I'll be fine." He said, taking some ice from the glass that was on the table and putting it in his mouth.

I looked at my mother, who at the same time had all the concern for my father in her expression, and also had all the desire to fulfill her duties as Luna, I reached out to her, and she smiled before hugging me and we went to direction of the dance floor. My mother and father always liked to dance and they danced very well, It was easy to lead her, and since she taught me it was even more rewarding. We danced together until the song ended, but the orchestra soon changed into another, and Alpha Clark, who was to our right, already asked to dance with her, when I turned to the left Clair was lowering her hand, after letting go of her father, I without even thinking, just grabbed her hand in the air and pulled her into my arms, continuing to dance. I felt her try to protest, but I kept her body firmly next to mine, and amidst the twists and turns she ended up giving in, but not before making a face.

Her smell so close to my nose was driving me crazy, and having her so close to my body made me feel the bulge in my pants grow out of control, she had a bizarre effect on me, which I didn't know how to explain it. And when the song ended, I pulled and brought her closer, and in one movement I spun her around and leaned her back, so much so that she had to use the hand that was on my shoulder to hang onto my neck, I felt her tense up and her eyes were wide and staring at me, my mouth went dry seeing her so close to me. I heard applause in the background and it made a smug smile appear on my lips, which made Clair quickly climb up let go of my arms, and stomp away to the balcony again. I didn't understand, but I followed her to the balcony and found her leaning against the railing again.

"Is it really that hard to dance with me?" I said smiling, approaching her.

"Why did you do that you idiot?" Clair turned to me to shout in my direction and point a finger in my face, then she turned back to the landscape.

"Hey, what did I do? I just danced with you." I responded trying to understand. I approached her, but she palmed my chest and pushed me back.

"You think it's easy, right?" She started talking and I heard her voice choke, was she crying? "I fought my whole life to create my image, to be respected or to at least accept me taking on a position that is rightfully mine, for you to come after 10 years away, disrespect me in the meeting, and now want to put on a little show with me, making me look like a vain girl." She screamed completely out of control.

"Clair, you're overreacting, It was nothing, and I already apologized for the meeting." I tried to justify myself, but she wouldn't listen to me.

"Just stay away from me, Arthur." Clair screamed and walked out the door before slamming it hard making a loud sound.
