Raging Barons – Silver: Chapter 9

Church went better than I thought it was going to, but I’ve got these two fuckers to sort out now, and then I want to get to know our two new prospects. Both I think are going to be great, but you never can tell until you’ve spent some time with them.
Striding in my office, I sit behind my desk, and nod to the chairs in front for Silver and Fox to plant themselves. “Okay, I’m not fucking about. Fox, why don’t you tell us why you’ve not been at the club doing your share of the work?”
Fox fidgets in his chair and I can see Silver is about ready to boil over and he’s normally easygoing. He’s got to be mighty pissed off for his face to be set like stone.
“I’m sorry Silver, I know I’ve let you down. My sister asked me to carve her a headboard as she knows I love working with wood. I did it for her and then someone she knew wanted a dresser made. I did that,” rubbing his hand over the back of his neck he looks up at me and then Silver, “I got so many orders I’ve been working 16-hour days to get them done so I can come to the club and do my job.”
I lean forward and look at Silver squarely. “Can you manage the club on your own? Are you up for taking it on as manager, you will of course get a higher cut of the profits?”
“I already came to that decision before I came to the clubhouse after work. We’ve all been working so hard to be ready for opening. I’ve got the staff now and if I need more, I can organize it, so yeah, I can do the manager position on my own.” Silver turns to Fox, “All you had to do was talk to me, and we could have had this discussion earlier.” Looking back at me, “Can I go now, Pres?”
“Yeah, off you go.” I’m not happy about what’s happened here because these two were close, and it’s easy to see some damage has been caused.
Fox jumps up and places his hand on Silver’s forearm, “I’m sorry man, I never meant to leave it all in your lap. I should have spoken up instead of trying to get it all done and get back to you.”
Silver nods at Fox without comment, then leaves the office. Fox turns to me as he throws himself down in the chair once more.
“Okay, so you’ve been doing this work. Are you now caught up?” I ask, and believe me, I’m trying to be reasonable.
“No, as quick as I finish one order, I have two more lined up. I just can’t seem to stop getting orders.” Fox looks mortified at his position, but I’m finding it quite amusing because here we have a business that’s flourishing and that’s what we’ve been trying to do. I lean back in my seat, pick up my cellphone and text Mia, then wait.
A knock on the door and Mia pops her head into the office. I flick my fingers for her to come to me and she walks in questioningly, but says nothing.
“Mia, if you had a brother who could do woodwork and has orders that are lined up, what would you do with that?” I ask her because I know her well enough now, that any minute the excitement and ideas are going to flow.
“Woodwork, like making things out of wood, you mean?” Mia asks, to which Fox looks at her and responds.
“Bed headboards, dressers, dining tables, cabinets, you name it.” He states, and his reply has me a little shocked, I have to say.
“Well, I would find a property with a workshop at the back, and a showroom at the front. A receptionist, an apprentice and then make sure that the prices were well worth the time and effort of doing it and name it something like ‘Bespoke Furnishings’. That says they are exclusive one-off pieces, not this manufactured garbage we see.” Mia sits on the chair Silver had vacated, leaning forward and looking closely at Fox.
“Okay Mia, so this is your next project. Work with Fox, get him set up, and making him and the club money with whatever he needs.” I say, stand and leave the office, knowing Mia will grill the shit outta him until she knows everything.
I see Silver at the bar, leaning on the counter with his elbows and his head down. He looks pretty out of it and I know it’s because he feels like he lost Fox as a close brother.
Sitting next to Silver, I slap his shoulder and nod at Fizz who is tending bar. When he places my beer in front of me, I nod again, then turn my back to the bar counter and lean back, looking to my left at Silver.
“You know he’s run off his feet. Feeling pretty sick with himself for letting you down. You’ve not lost him, Silver; he just needs time to get back into stride.” I say quietly, because I want this conversation to stay between us.
“Don’t matter Pres. He can do as he likes. I’ve more than enough on my plate with the club. I work a hell of a lot of hours and will do even more now. I’ve no time for him at this point.” Silver nods, then stands and after looking around the common room looks at me, “Night Pres.” Walking away without a pause.
“Damn.” I whisper to myself, I hate it when my men are not on good speaking terms, especially when they were close.
A pair of arms wrap around my middle and I turn slowly to bring my woman into my body, tucking her in close. Her nose sits under my chin and I hear her take a deep breath. I have to chuckle as this is one of her comfort tells, filling her lungs with my smell.
“You okay, babe?”
“Yeah. Fox is bashing himself up something terrible for leaving Silver in the lurch with the club. He knows it’ll take some mending, but the relationship is worth the fight.” Mia takes another deep breath, “We’re going to look at some properties as soon as we can, set it up as a business, I’ll talk to TwoCents and PT tomorrow as they’ll help me get it all up and running.”
“Okay. Are you ready to go to bed?” I whisper in her ear, then run my tongue up from her earlobe.
“Yeah, let’s go.” Turning to head to the stairs, Mia looks up and smiles. “We’re going to call it RBMC Bespoke Furnishings.”
“Good, that’s good, babe.” When I look up, I see Target, Chaos, Stitch and Meat sitting at the other end of the bar, so I lean down to Mia. “Get to bed, I’ll be up in a little while. I need to speak to Stitch and Meat.”
I watch Mia head to the stairs, then turn and walk over to the group of four. Tapping on the bar, the prospect hands me a beer and I sit, take a large swallow and then turn to Chaos, who’s chuckling.
“You okay, Pres?” Chaos asks.
“Yeah, I’m tired tonight. Trying to keep everyone at work and get this place in order is getting on my nerves. We need to organize the prospects better because the cleaning is going down the drain again.” I growl at the thought of the rooms that are desperate for showers cleaned and bedding changed.
“Has everyone got a set of jobs that they do?” Stitch asks.
“We try to give them a couple of days at one thing, then move them around, otherwise it gets mind-numbing. Gate duty is okay, as we have the gate-house, but if you do too much of it, your mind switches off.” I know, as I’ve done more than my share of gate duty.
“Why don’t you hire a cleaning company? Plenty of them around now. Or even open your own and employ women to do it, but get this place done as part and parcel of it?” Meat states as he’s looking around the common room. I know that he keeps the kitchen spotless and he’s organized it like it’s never been before, so on that alone, I’ll consider his suggestion.
“It’s worth looking into, because Mia has been working herself to a standstill lately, trying to do everything.” Which I’m not happy about at all. “I’ll think on that Meat, speak to Mia and the officers, see what comments I get on it.”
Target stands and nods at Chaos. “You ready to leave?” They both kept the rental apartment and seem like they are going to maintain it, even though they have a room here if they want one.
“Yeah. Are you two settled for tonight? I’ll be here in the morning to walk you through everything.” Chaos says as he picks up his kutte as we don’t have to wear our kuttes inside the clubhouse unless we want to.
“We’re okay. See you early in the morning.” Stitch responds and Meat nods.
They both leave, shouting to the others still in the common room, and I turn to Stitch and Meat. “Did you need anything tonight? Go into the kitchen, get a drink and something to eat if you need. You have everything in your rooms, but if you need anything at all, you just ask, don’t go without. Tomorrow you’ll start your positions and I’m really looking forward to eating your food Meat.” I cannot help but rub my hands together and grin.
“I’ll be up and make breakfast, so you tell your woman she can stay in bed a little longer.” Meat states with such a straight face that I hope one day to see him let out a laugh worth listening to, even a god’s honest smile would be a start.
“Thanks man.” I slap his shoulder, nod to Stitch and head to my woman and a good night’s sleep, I can’t wait to wrap my arms around her, cuddle her to me. Fuck, there’s that cuddle word again.
