Raging Barons MC – Book Three – Silver

Raging Barons – Silver: Chapter 2

-:- EDEN -:-

Driving back to the house, I cannot believe that I lost the job, and the bar is closing. I needed that job as I know with everything going from bad to worse this last year, I’m going to end up homeless.

Parking in the driveway, I look up at the house that used to be my mothers. We lost dad to cancer when I was 5 years old and after a while mum took up with Stan. Now I never liked Stan, but he wasn’t abusive. He just ignored me as much as he could.

He knew mom wanted to leave the house to me, as it was our family home before he was with my mother. She never did a last will and testament so everything went to him as her husband, hence, he left everything to his lazy, whore of a daughter and I have nothing. The bitch is even charging me a massive rent to live in my family home. I hate her, and she’s going to love the position I’m in with losing my job.

Stepping out of my junker, I throw my purse under my armpit and walk up to the front door. Taking a calming breath, I open the door and walk into the hall to be met by Shirley.

I know she knows I’ve lost the job by the look of delight on her face. How she knows I’ve no idea, but whatever happens next will not be good for me, I’m sure.

“So, Eden, it’s rent day tomorrow. You either pay up or get out.”

“You know what, Shirley, you’ve been living off my earnings for long enough. I pay you rent, which pays for all the amenities, so you don’t work, you just sponge off me. I’m moving out. You can finance yourself from now on.” And I push past her as I run up the stairs to my room. I’m going to get packed what I want to take, and then I don’t really care where I go from that point as long as it’s far enough away from this bitch.

As I’m packing the clothing I want to take with me, I cannot help but smile. Even though I’m leaving my home behind, I know my parents would want me to be happy and not live as I am at this point. I push my mother’s jewelry box to the bottom of the suitcase and place towels and bathroom items on top, making sure the box won’t move around.

I place two suitcases, four boxes, and half a dozen carriers next to the bedroom door. That is what I’m taking with me. The rest I’m happy to leave behind, and the bitch can do as she likes with it.

Looking around, I nod to myself. Time to get the food I’ve purchased and Shirley can go hungry for all I care. This is going to be a wakeup call for her as she sits on her ass all day expecting everything to drop in her lap.

Entering the kitchen, I open the fridge and take out eggs, peppers, milk, ham, and cheese. All I’ve purchased. I make an omelet with the makings from the fridge, then pack everything I’ve purchased into a box and open the cabinet doors, surveying all that I’ve supplied.

“What the fuck are you doing?” I hear snarled from behind me, and I look over my shoulder and see Shirley standing with her hands fisted at her sides.

Turning to look at her, I keep myself calm and state, “Well, I’m taking the food I’ve purchased. Not my problem you’ve purchased nothing to eat, now, is it?” and before she can say anything else, I hold my hand up to shut her up, “Shirley, it’s time you grew up. Yes, you and your father stole my home, but you’ll not have it long as you’ve no job, no prospects, and no idea how to survive. Good riddance is how I feel. I’ll survive and flourish because I don’t mind hard work and going without until I get to where I want to be.”

“I’ll call the cops and tell them you’re stealing.” She grins, thinking she’s won something.

“Oh well, that’ll be okay with me. I have all the receipts that show I purchased and had the store deliver here, so go ahead, call the cops.” I snap back at her, then turn and grab everything, placing it all in boxes, leaving her with empty cabinets.

I walk back and forth to my junker, pile it all in as carefully as I can, then head up to my room and pick up the last of it, then it down and pack all that in, too. The last thing I grab is the bedding and throw it on the passenger seat, squeezing it down so I can see out of the windows when I’m driving.

Taking one last look at my home, I blow a kiss to my parents and drive away, leaving Shirley standing on the doorstep with her hands on her hips, hopping mad.

Driving around for a little while I stop at a new coffee house that just opened, and as I walk in the smell hits my senses. It is a fantastic aroma. How can anyone not love the smell of coffee beans? It smells rich and, to me, comforting.

Hearing a giggle, I open my eyes and see a young woman smiling at me from behind the counter. “Yeah, I know the feeling, girl.”

I cannot help but smile back at her. She’s a pretty redhead with the most gorgeous green eyes. I step up to the counter. “The smell is just amazing as you walk into the place. It hits you and has my mouth watering.”

“What can I get you? We have everything you can think of.”

“I’ll have an Americano, please.” I say and look around at the place. It’s a great coffee house, with a seating area and two counters with grinders, coffee machines and a serving area for panini. I really love it and I hope they will be successful as the town needs something like this.

Paying for my drink, I take a seat at the window and take a deep breath of the coffee, allowing it to calm me and stop the feeling of panic I keep getting when I think of what I’ve done.

“Are you okay?” the young woman asks me, and I turn to smile at her.

“I’m okay. Thank you for asking.”

“My name’s Shar, and if you need help, please tell me.”

“Oh, I’m okay. Thank you Shar. My names Eden. I just lost my job, so I’m a bit fed up. I’ll find something else, I’m sure.” I tell her, but I don’t tell her I’m now homeless and worried sick about where I’m going to lay my head because the small amount of savings will not go very far.

“What job do you do? I’ve just taken on staff here or I could have hired you.”

“I was working in a bar, bartending and serving tables. I’ll find something else; it’s just asking around and I don’t mind leaving town if I have to.” I hadn’t realized I may have to do that, but I really have nothing keeping me here now, so why not move on if I have to? It’s certainly a question I’ve never asked myself before.

“Oh, Club Whisky is going to be doing interviews for staff in the next couple of weeks. Let me call my friend, and ask her if you can go for one. I’m sure she’ll be the one holding them.” Shar goes into the back of the store then reemerges a few seconds later, holding her cell to her ear.

“Mia, are you doing interviews for the club?” I watch as Shar is listening to whoever she’s speaking to.

“I’ve a young lady here who’s just lost her job bartending and serving tables, so she’ll be ideal. Can you get her an appointment for an interview?” Shar isn’t scared of asking, I think to myself and she’s only about 5’ 5” in height, so she’s a small firecracker by the looks of it.

“Okay Mia, thanks babe. I’ll talk to you later.” Shar walks over and throws herself into a chair opposite me at the table. “Mia wants me to get your cell number, then she’ll call with a time for your interview. She’s my bestie, so I knew she’d get you an interview and I bet you get the job.” She winks at me, and I cannot help but laugh at her antics.

I give Shar my cell number, and we spend another half an hour talking when she’s not jumping up to serve anyone that comes into the shop. She is so friendly that I’m positive this place will be successful simply because people will love her.

As it’s closing time for the shop, I thank Shar for helping and I head back to my vehicle. I check no one is watching with intent because you only have to look at the piled-up interior of the junker to see I’m moving or homeless.

Driving away, I feel a pinch of fear of what’s going to happen to me next. But, swallow it down quickly because I cannot afford a pity party at the moment.

I know a place where I can park and be safe, well I hope I’ll be safe. It’s a field outside of town that has a dirt track at the side of it, the dirt track is shadowed with trees, and will give me privacy and security, as it’s not used anymore that I know of, anyway. I just hope it will be a safe place until I can get a job and somewhere to live.

I park as near to the trees as I can, selecting a tree with plenty of branches that will hide me from the road. Plenty of fields around, so if I have to pee, I can at least find somewhere safe to do it. But I’m hoping that if I go to the mall late in the evening, I’ll be able to manage until the morning and hit a coffee place, or go back to the mall.

Taking out some wipes, I clean my hands and face, brush my hair and push the driver’s seat back as far as it will go, then push a pillow behind my head and the comforter over my body, tucking it up under my chin. I’d made sure all the doors are locked before I cleaned up, so now all I have to do is rest and as I listen to the silence of the area, I cannot stop the lone tear that runs down my cheek.
