Raging Barons – Silver: Chapter 18
-:- SILVER -:-
Spending time at the hospital the last couple of days has kept me churning over what happened and how the fuck could our parking area be a danger to the women that work for us, because that can’t stand, we have to make sure they get into their vehicles safely. It’s the least we can do.
Looking at my watch, I know I’ve got to get back to the clubhouse, get showered and changed, then dash to the club. Why I am hanging around here with Eden, watching her like a damn bodyguard, I don’t know.
Walking back into Eden’s room, I see Shar has arrived and is arguing with the nurse on duty. Folding my arms over my chest, I lean against the door frame and take in the scene happening in front of me.
“We told you, Eden is coming with us. She will stay nowhere else and I don’t care what you say, it’s really fuck all to do with you now is it?” Shar is nearly nose to nose with the nurse who is standing her ground.
“I cannot release the patient until we have a fixed address, and not an MC clubhouse.” She sneers. Now that has gotten my interest.
“You stuck up pile of shit, who do you think you are?” Shar shouts in the woman’s face and when I see her entire body tense, I take a step forward gaining both of their attention.
“What’s your agenda here?” I ask the nurse, because something doesn’t feel right. “She will have her own room, with adjoining bath, three or four meals a day, depending on what she wants, she’ll have multiple people helping her, making sure she is alright. So, with that in mind, why don’t you tell me what the real problem is?” and I check out her name tag, which says she’s called Beverley.
Throwing her hands on her hips, she glares at me a moment, then storms out of the room, much to Shar’s amusement. “Take that bitch,” Shar shouts at Beverley’s retreating back, cackling like a witch.
I know she has an issue as she had a few hook-ups with Mav and when he kicked her to the curb she didn’t like it. But I’m not getting into it Shar as she’ll cause more than a drama over it.
Looking over at Eden, she is sitting on the side of the bed, fully clothed with a look of utter shock, embarrassment and I think of awe as she’s staring at Shar.
Shar slaps my forearm, grinning like a loon. “Well done, Silver. Now let’s get our girl out of this place.”
I nod, grin at Shar’s enthusiasm, but hold my hand up. “Just give me a minute to get Eden signed out. You make sure you have everything at the ready in case we have to do a runner. I’ll need to contact the clubhouse for someone to bring a vehicle because I’ve still got my bike parked outside. You two being dropped off wasn’t a great decision.” I wink at Eden, who’s still looking shell-shocked at the situation in hand.
As I’m at the desk getting Eden released, I watch as Meat walks past, enters Eden’s room, and two seconds later walks past again, holding Eden’s arm and guiding her out, with Shar behind smirking at me. “Come on, Silver, don’t drag your ass. We’re off.” Shar giggles, then full out laughs as she skips. Yeah, she actually skips. What the fuck is going on here?
By the time I’ve got the paperwork signed and the bill paid, I dash outside to find no sign of Meat, or the women. “Fuckin’ hell.” I snarl, rush to my bike, and get the hell out of here and back to the clubhouse.
Riding into the compound, prospect Petey gives me a nod, then closes the gate behind me. That has my eyebrows raising because the gates don’t normally close during the day. This means something is going on that the club is not happy about or we are under some kind of threat.
After parking and entering the front door of the clubhouse, I don’t see Eden or Shar in the common room, and before I decide where to check for them, I hear Shar laughing in the kitchen, so of course that’s where I head.
Entering the kitchen, I see Shar and Eden sitting at one table, with a drink in front of them and Meat making pancakes. Now, if they are eating pancakes, I’m not moving from the kitchen because I want some of them.
I drop into a seat next to Eden and give her a wink and smile. The blush that runs up from her neck into her cheeks makes me grin and I turn to Meat. “I’ll have some of them Meat if you have some spare.” As always, Meat doesn’t speak, just gives me a nod and carries on with what he’s doing.
“How are you feeling, Eden?” I ask, because I have to say she looks bewildered with everything that has happened.
“I’m doing okay, still hurting, but each day will get better. I’m just thankful I didn’t get any broken bones.” She states, but I note Meat stiffens for a second or two. He has to feel the same as we do about women getting hurt, I think to myself.
“Why am I here?” Eden asks quietly.
Shar jumps in before I can answer, “I told you Eden, we are going to make sure you don’t get hurt again. We’re looking for this asshole and when we do, I want to kick his nuts so hard he’ll be wearing them as a necklace.”
Eden’s eyes round up when she hears that and before we say anything else, she gives a small giggle, then it develops into a husky laugh, which has us all looking at her in shock, and shit, it’s the sexiest laugh I ever heard.
Meat places an enormous plate of pancakes in the middle of the table, bacon, maple syrup and fresh fruit, so we have a good choice since he only had a few minutes to prepare.
Shar grabs a plate and piles it up, grinning as she takes her first bite, then she hums with pleasure. “Oh my god, Meat, this is delicious. I love your pancakes. Do you want to come and work at the coffee house a couple of mornings a week to hold pancake mornings?”
Meat looks at her, shakes his head no, then walks out of the kitchen, leaving us all staring at his back. “The man’s a food genius, but shit, he has no personality at all.” Shar grumbles between mouthfuls.
After we eat Shar takes Eden to her room and I head for Axel’s office. I need to be updated on what the fuck is going on around here. Something is obviously going on, and as I’ve been at the hospital, they have not kept me up to date.
Knocking on the door, I wait until Axel shouts come in. “Mornin’ Pres, can you update me on what’s happening?” I ask as I plant my butt in the chair in front of his desk.
“We’re gonna have Church tonight, and we’ll know more then. Target and Drag are checking with people they know on the streets. It’ll hopefully get us information and we may know more about the step-sister then. I’m sure the bitch has gotten herself involved in something and they are going after Eden to get the dollars this bitch owes them, but don’t take that as gospel. I could be wrong.”
“Why is the gate closed, Pres?”
“I decided, as Eden is going to be here and she’s already had two incidents, that it could bring trouble and I want to make sure Mia and Eden stay safe. If anyone wants to get to them, they’ll have to come through the gate or fence, plus all of us.” Axel gives that evil grin, “Please let them try, I really want to get my hands on them, because you can be sure there is more than one involved in this shit.”
“Who’s at the club? I didn’t get out of the hospital yesterday. I couldn’t bring myself to leave her. She was on my watch when she got hurt and it’s left a nasty taste.” I lean forward in my seat. “There’s something about her Pres that has me wanting to protect her.”
Axel grins, “Is she your’s, Silver?” I shoot back in my seat and stare at him. What the fuck, mine? Can she be mine? Everyone knows I’ve wanted to settle for a long time, but I found no-one that remotely took my interest. Is she mine? Is that why I feel protective towards her?
Axel laughs, shaking his head. “Get the fuck out of here and make sure you’re at Church tonight. We closed the club for a couple of days, so it reopens tomorrow.”
Showering and changing clothes has me feeling better, but I’m tired. No doubt sleeping in a chair at the hospital was not a good rest. I’m going to check on Eden then speak to everyone I come across, see how much I can find out. Someone will tell me more than Axel did.
Knocking and entering Eden’s room, I smile to myself when I see her fast asleep with Mia on one side of the bed and Shar on the other; they have obviously been whispering. Giving them both a nod, I murmur, “How’s things going? Is she okay?”
Mia nods and stands, walking around to me and indicating I follow her outside into the hallway. Mia closes the door behind us and turns to me, keeping her voice low, “I think from what Eden’s said her step-sister Shirley has been living off Eden’s salary, she was just living in that house while Eden paid for all the food and utilities. After Eden lost her last job Shirley kicked her out. It’s wrong, Silver, that house should have been hers, not Shirley’s, and although it’s horrid to say I hope her mother is suffering a little for what she’s laid on Eden.”
“What do you mean, laid on Eden?”
“Well, this Shirley is a lazy piece of shit who’s been going out at night dressed up to the dogs, then coming back and sleeping all day. When Eden finished cleaning up after her night working at the bar, she’d get up in the morning and it was all messed up again.” Mia rubs her forehead with her palm. “Silver, I think this bitch has put Eden’s name forward to pay whatever debts she has, or someone has done that? I’m really worried about her.”
“I’m gonna find out more about what’s happening, Mia. We have Church tonight, too. I think between us we’ll be able to put the pieces together. Are you staying with Eden?”
“Yeah, for another hour, then both of us have to leave her. But she’ll be okay in her room, won’t she?”
“I’ll come back in an hour before you leave.” Turning, I walk away as I want to get as much information as I can before I come back to sit with Eden.
First thing is to check with Specs, see what he’s found so far. Entering Specs office, he grins, “Didn’t think you’d take too long before you came to me. So far, I found that this step-father Stan was living in a trailer park with his daughter Shirley, a run-down dump of a park too. He met and quickly married Eden’s mother. Now I’ve no way of knowing if he cared about her or not, but they were only together a couple of years before she died. Then he inherited the house and the insurance that paid out. When he died, he’d made a will that left everything to his daughter, and effectively cut Eden off from everything her parents would have left her. It’s a crock of shit, for sure. This Shirley hasn’t worked a day in her life that I can find, anyway. But Eden has never been out of work. It’s been easy to follow her from one job to another. She’s had three so far, until Club Whisky, which is job number four. Nothing, and I mean nothing, shows that Eden has ever been in trouble throughout school or work. So why the fuck would anyone go after her?” Specs lifts a sheet of paper, “This is the shit from Shirley, that bitch has been gradually getting in with a bad crowd, thinking her shit don’t stink, well it stinks now because she’s got Tommo the dealer on her ass and he’s put her to work in his whorehouse, she’s having to service his men to pay off her debt. Trouble with that is she’ll never be free as they’re feeding her drugs to get her well and truly hooked.”
I stand staring at Specs, my brain racing, Tommo, we all know of him, we’ve been edging him off our turf, but this could mean we’ll be going to war with him and ending his reign of terror in this town.
Specs looks at me questioningly, “You okay, Silver? There is nothing more we can do at the moment.”
“Yeah, my mind is racing with all you’ve told me. Church tonight, so I’m sure we’ll be discussing this. Thanks man, I’ll catch up later.” I head out of his office with my mind doing double time. I’m not happy with what we’ve found out, but until we know everything, we can’t make a course of action.
Axel slaps my back, catching me by surprise. “Go to bed for a while Silver, you look washed out. It’s an order. I’ll make sure Eden’s okay while you rest.” And that’s what I do, head off to bed for a few hours’ sleep.
