Chapter 226
The motion-activated lights had been switched off as Naomi fell asleep. The lights from the streets shone inside.
It was not too bright, but it was enough for Scott to see.
As the doors opened, the lights on the corridors switched on. The motion-activated lights also lit up. Scott could see her sitting on her chair, lying on the table.
Naomi was in a pajama set. She placed her head on her hands like a student falling asleep in class. She was facing the door, too.
She was sound asleep and did not hear the door opening. She was still calmly asleep, unfazed by anything.
Scott entered and shut the door lightly. It clicked so softly that it was almost inaudible.
There were two chairs by the table. He walked over to her, pulled a chair, and sat next to her. Facing her, he leaned back against the chair and crossed his legs in a relaxed manner.
Scott sat still and watched her. The lights were switched off once more, and darkness enveloped them. He said nothing nor moved.
Naomi had no sleeping problems. She always had a calm mind, so once she fell asleep, she would sleep straight to dawn unless something occurred or if she was woken.
That night, Naomi had been worried about Scott all the while, which was why even though she was asleep, she was not sleeping as deeply as before-especially when Scott sat down next to her. The smell of alcohol wafted over to her. She groggily woke up from her dreams, her eyelids fluttering as she did.
Naomi's surroundings were dim, hence why she did not notice the person next to her. Or perhaps, she had already seen him, but her mind had not processed it yet.
As she slowly came to consciousness and her gaze got used to the darkness, she finally saw the person sitting next to her, watching her intently. It seemed he had been there for a long time. Naomi was stunned. She thought she was dreaming for a few seconds, but she sat up and looked around, especially out of the window. The street lights were still bright. It was still night.
Scott had returned.
When she finally processed that, she said, "You're back."
She looked at him with much clearer eyes. She was awake.
"Mh." Scott looked at her. From the moment she started waking up, he never took his eyes off her.
Naomi nodded, though not being able to find the words she needed.
She had just woken up, so her thoughts were still a little slow.
Right at this moment, there was a knock on the door. Naomi paused for a while. She finally remembered what she wanted to do.
She got up and said, "The things I bought are here."
She was about to go and open the door. When she stood up, Scott stood up and said, "Sit."
He went to open the door.
Naomi stood up with both feet. Her ankle still hurt, but it was not as painful as the past few days. Nonetheless, it reminded her clearly of her situation.
