Chapter 4. In His Arms
"Hello, my name is Mason. You must be Elena." He said in the most sultry way I had to do a double take as to see if it was really Mason.
I looked at him obviously confused. I was about to respond to him with my usual sarcastic comment, but something in his eyes held me. I couldn't speak nor could I move. Its like I was trapped.
First I was attempting to look deeper in his eyes to help myself with an explanation as to whether or not he was genuine, and the next thing I know, I couldn't even retract myself.
Its like there were walls built up inside his soul and I was trapped behind them. Is he so messed up that he managed to put these walls up with the motive of keeping people out of his soul and heart?
I attempted to use my powers to break the wall enough for me get out but it didn't work.
I tried again and I could feel I was in my body again.
"Why the fuck you were looking at me like that? Its like you were gone for a minute but then you came back to reality." He pondered more to himself at the last part.
I turned to face the board ahead but as I did so, I felt this striking pain at the back of my eyes. It started off as like a prickling sensation but intensified within the second.
I then heard a scream coming from a girl in the classroom, but then I realized that girl was me.
I closed my eyes as a way to try and soothe the pain but it did nothing.
That's when it started again. The voices.
'What the hell is wrong with her?'
'Is she dying?'
'What's happening to her?'
'Why isn't Mr Smith doing anything about this?'
The voices pierced through my ears making the pain intensify.
Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, I heard a distinct voice that I could recognize any where.
"Elena are you okay?" Mason asked apparently worried about me.
The minute I heard is voice, it went completely black.
*************************************
Am I blind now?
Well that's fricking awesome.
Way to go Xayla.
You're screwed now.
Kalina's going to kill me.
"Is she going to be okay?" I heard a voice above me say.
"Well I think she's just suffering from a rather intense migraine, so I think she will be" A female voice noted.
Intense migraine. Right. That's what I wished it was. Actually I have no clue what it was. First I was looking into Mason's eyes.....
Mason
Who is Mason
That, I must find out. This has never happened to me before. No one and I mean not just any one should be able to put up such huge walls with a means to guard their emotions. Is he so messed up that he needs them?
"Okay nurse. When she wakes up, please don't tell her that I was the one who carried her when she fainted." A voice I recognized to be Masons told, I assume, the nurse pleadingly.
Why wouldn't he want me to know that it was him?
Wait, I fainted? Ohhh so that means then I'm not blind. My eyes are just closed.
Well , now I feel stupid.
"Okay, dear. I won't say a word." The nurse said to Mason.
I heard a door shut and I took that as the queue to try and open my eyes.
As I did that, I saw a surprised looking middle age woman with a stethoscope around her neck. Yup. A nurse.
The surprised look on her face was replaced with a caring one.
"Miss Maguire, I'm really happy that you're awake but you know the rules. No colored eye contact lenses." The nurse said sternly.
What does she mean by no contact lenses. How does she even know I had them in.
I tried to sit up but I felt a bit dizzy.
"I think you should lay down for a few more minutes." The nurse said clearly worried that if I fainted again, she wouldn't be able lift me up herself even though I'm 5 ft 2 and weigh 108 pounds.
I laughed inwardly at her before I got up anyway.
I went in the attached bathroom of the room I was in and splashed some water on my face.
I held my head down looking at my hands still wondering why in bloody hell wouldn't Mason want me to know that he did a kind deed in carrying me to the nurse's office when I fainted.
Wait, I was in Mason's arms. He carried me. I was against his chest. Close enough to hold his face in my hands and.....
Shut up Xayla. He's a messed up, impassive douche bag. A douche bag who carried you to the nurse's office when you fainted. Douches don't normally do such kind deeds.
I sighed and looked up in the mirror to look at how of a mess I was.
The first thing I noticed, were my eyes. Well, my eye color. They weren't green anymore. They were their usual color.
Bright pink fused with blue to give off a purply look.
But I had in my contacts this morning.
Oh no, did Mason see them and freaked out that's why he told the nurse not to let me know he carried me here because he wanted nothing to do with me and he thinks I'm a complete freak....breathe Xayla.
I took a deep breath to calm my nerves. I've been doing that a lot since morning.
I guess that explains why the nurse told me that I should know not to wear "colored" contact lenses. Thank god she didn't believe they were real, because I wouldn't have any excuse as to why other that the plain truth.
Oh nurse, nothing to worry about. Its just that I have this weird ability to read people's mind, know entirely what happened in their past as a kid, sense and absorb emotions radiating off them.... all by gazing into their eyes. Which therefore made my eyes this unique color.
That would've been eventful. She would've laughed me to scorn if I told her that. I doubt she would've believed me.
I hurriedly run my fingers through my hair and left the privacy of the bathroom.
"Thanks for all you did here for me. Wait, what exactly did you do." I questioned her.
"Oh, a classmate told me it seemed like you were having a terrible headache so I gave you a pain reliever by injecting it into your vein...." She told me clearly making sure not to mention Mason's name.
"Oh okay. Ummm...did he...did my classmate see that my eyes were this color?" I asked her.
"That I had in contacts?" I added.
"Oh no, you were practically passed out so your eyes were closed the entire time." She said to me
Whew! That was a close one.
"Okay. Is my bag here?" I asked her. I figured that I should call Kalina and ask her to bring my spare green contact lenses from my drawer. Hopefully she doesn't snoop around my room before doing so. It was her day off from work so I wasnt worried that I had bothered her.
Before getting an answer from the nurse I saw it on the chair in the corner of the room. I quickly took out my phone and dialed her number. She answered the phone right away and I quickly told her what had happened, excluding the part about using my powers on Mason to know more about him. I just told her that the headache came back and I had fainted during English class. Simple.
Kalina came 15minutes later with my contacts in her hand her face contoured with annoyance. Why was she annoyed, I don't know. Not like she was doing anything important or anything.
I took them from her and muttered a thanks.
"We'll talk later Missy." She told me sternly before walking out the office. Always playing the mother role.
I quickly put them in my eyes privately in the bathroom without the Nurse knowing, before saying a thank you to her for looking after me.
I walked out and realized that time had pass and it was now the middle of fourth period. I decided to just go home since the nurse told me I could if I was comfortable driving.
So that I did.
