Chapter 28. Meeting the Family
Being Psychic does have it’s perks. Maria taught me so much and I’ve never been so eager to do something in my life.
But before I do, I have to speak to Mason. He didn’t attend school for the entire week.
I was in my car, parked outside his house, deciding if I should try putting the most obvious password on the box so the gate could open. Which was 1234.
I stepped out of my car and inhaled deeply. He’s there and I sense that he knows that I am too.
I pressed the button and I spoke into it, hoping he would reply.
“I’m sorry miss, Sir Mason does not want to be bothered at this moment.” A man with a British accent said politely.
“Tell him that I really need to speak to him. Its important.” I replied anxiously.
I didnt hear a response so I went back in my car.
I was about to drive off when I saw the gate slowly beginning to open.
Well I guess he changed his mind.
I took my time and drove into the yard.
I then noticed that there were a few more cars parked on the outside other than Mason’s range rover. There was a yellow Porsche, white Ferrari and two jeeps. One blue and the other black. Looks like his family is home. Maybe, I should come back another time. I am so not ready to meet his family. Just I was about reverse back out, I saw a lady with blonde hair step outside smiling heartwarmingly, looking at me. Well. My car. I doubt that she could see me.
I sighed and parked my car and walk towards the lady.
“Hi you must be Xayla. Mason has told me so much about you.” She hugged me.
Seems as though he told her my real name.
“Uh hi. I hope only good things.” I joked.
She giggled at that. “I’m Rebecca, Mason’s mom. Well, through adoption, if that clears things up a bit. Mason doesn’t like it when I refer myself as his mother so he calls me aunt to prevent me from doing that ” she blabbered, a bit nervous.
“Oh I understand.” Smiling into her eyes, I replied.
She gave me back a smile in return. “Won’t you come in.” She offered, opening the door.
I walked in and admire the place just to make it seem like I haven’t been here before. Which I have.
I followed her into the kitchen where I saw a man with black hair and grey eyes, standing around the stove, with an apron on.
“Dear, look who it is.” Rebecca called to her husband, I assume.
The man turned around with a surprised look which then turned into a pleased one.
“Hi my name is Anthony. You must be Xayla.” He wiped his hands in a cloth before offering it to me.
I shook his hand.
Well she looks quite lovely.
I heard him say.
“Its nice to meet you. You have a lovely home.” I smiled.
“Thank you. I must apologize for what’s going to happen in the next three seconds.” He looked apologetic.
“What..” Before I could continue ny question I heard a scream coming from behind. When I looked around I saw twin boys racing towards me with a huge grin on their faces. They both had dark hair and grey eyes.
“Hi i’m Harry” one of them hugged me saying.
The other stood by looking bummed that he didn’t get to hug me first. I looked at him and smiled and he grinned back.
“Hi, i’m Garry.” He smiled.
Harry let go of me and Garry stepped in for his hug. I love them already. So innocent. Innocent minds.
“What’s the commotion going on back here?” I hear a female ask. I let go of Garry and look up to see a blonde girl with grey eyes staring at me with a surprised expression. Probably wondering who I am. She looked like she was around 20. In college, I assume.
“Ohhh right. You’re Mason’s girlfriend.” She said as a matter of fact.
“Oh no , just a friend.” I quickly rushed in to reply, slightly embarrassed. I can bet my cheeks are red.
“Whatever you say. I’m Anabelle by the way. The sister” She smiled, stepping closer to hug me briefly. I hugged back.
“Xayla.” I murmured my name.
“I know.” She stepped back, looking at me.
I stood there under the gaze of Mason’s adoptive parents, twin brothers and sister. I saw Rebacca’s gaze shift to the door of the entrance to the kitchen. Eventually everyone’s gaze fell there. I turned around to see an annoyed looked Mason. Staring at me.
I gulped, getting a bit nervous all of a sudden. I haven’t seen him in a week. I’ve been worried sick. At least I know he’s okay.
Bullshit, he could’ve texted me and tell me that he was okay. But nothing.
My facial expression turned into fury while I stood there looking at him.
His eyebrows furrowed while he examined my face. He still had the annoyed expression on.
Rebecca cleared her throat, breaking us out of our glare off. “We’ll leave you two alone.” She smiled awkwardly.
“No need. Xayla come with me.” Mason said flatly. With that, he turned and walked away.
“Excuse me. It was very nice meeting you all.” I smiled at everyone and gave the twins another hug. They’d started to eat cheetos.
“Come back and play with us.” Harry shouted before I got out of sight.
“Sure thing.” I shouted back.
I lost sight of Mason so it took me a time to find him. He’d been standing at the foot of the stairs, looking at me expectantly. I walked up to him and looked into his eyes. He looked away immediately.
“Follow me” he replied, his voice sounding strained. I followed behind him up the stairs, and into a room I believed to be his from the last time I had came to his house.
For a guy’s room it looked pretty tidy. Well he had a maid so that was expected. I stood there at the doorframe admiring every detail of his room.
It had been painted a shade of blue that matched the color of his eyes. He had a computer desk with a laptop on top and a chair in front. His bed looked like a king size and he had a couch beside the door. He actually had a couch, in his room. I also noticed that he had an attached bathroom.
I looked to where he was standing and I saw him looking at me, annoyed.
“What are you doing here Xayla?” He inquired.
I looked at him like he has lost his mind. “Oh well sorry for actually giving a shit about you to actually stop by to see if you were okay because apparently you didn’t feel the need to reply back to my messages or return my phone calls.”
He looked at me blankly for a while.
I stared back at him expectantly, waiting for an explanation.
“Well I see you’ve met my family.” I muttered.
“Don’t bullshit me Mason. I want an explanation.” I snapped.
“Explanation for....?” He trailed off.
“Why havent you been in school for a week and why haven’t you return my calls? You practically went ghost with no explanation whatsoever.” I hissed.
“There is no explanation.” He stated, blankly.
“Are you seriously lying to me? ” I questioned dumfounded. “Me of all person”
“Well if you wanna know so badly, why don’t you just get into my head like you did the last time. Intruding in my personal thoughts.” He growled at me.
I stood there and looked at him. “Fine.” I muttered before walking up to the mirror on his dresser. I removed my contact lenses and turned to lock the door.
I walked towards where he stood, in the middle of the bedroom. His body looked stiff but I ignored that.
I looked up into his eyes. He seemed tensed so I gently rubbed my fingers along his chiseled cheekbone.
“Mason.” I whispered. His body seemed to relax under my touch. “I want you to tell me what you’re going through. I don’t have wanna have to read your mind to know. You should be able to trust me.”
“I trust you ” he sighed, looking into my eyes and I believed that he did trust me. I felt a wave of grief wash over me and I knew it came from Mason.
I took his right hand in both my hands, and faced his palm upwards. I rested my right hand on top of his and closed my eyes.
I inhaled slowly and took a small portion of his grief.
I opened my eyes to see him looking more than pissed. Not the reaction I was hoping. I must’ve done something wrong.
“I know what you did Xayla.” He stated, furiously. If he knows what I did, why is he upset.
“So why are you upset?” I baffled.
“You know you’re not suppose to do that. You know what will happen to you. You promised me that you would never absorb any negative energy from anyone even if that person is me” he gritted through his teeth, looking down at me.
I looked at him apologetically. “I’m sorry. I had to.”
“So you know now why I didn’t come to school.” He stated.
“No.” I replied.
“Didn’t you read my mind just now?” He questioned..
“No. I just read deeper into what you’re feeling.. I want you to be able to tell me anything. I want you to tell me yourself why you were absent and why you avoided my calls.” I claimed.
He looked away from me then not saying anything. I waited patiently for what he was about to tell me.
“It was my birthday on Monday.” He announced, still avoiding my eyes.
I waited patiently because I sense there was more to it than that.
“It was also the day my mother died.” He added.
Okay I did not expect that. I didn’t know what to say so I just hugged him. I wrapped my arms around his neck and hugged him. He hugged me back, burrying his face into my neck.
We stayed like that for who knows how long but I was the first to let go.
“I have a present for you.” I whispered looking at him.
“But you didn’t even know about my birthday, how can you have a birthday present for me?” He asked, looking confused.
“Trust me, I have the perfect gift for you. Even though it would’ve been much better if it were your birthday and not five days after it.” I joked.
His face came back to the blank one he had on before. “Okay.”
“Its at my house.” I announced.
“Okay, let’s go then. I’ll drive.” He offered and I nodded in response.
I know for sure he’s going to appreciate this gift I have for him. Let’s just hope I remember exactly how to do it.
