Chapter 24. Faint
Okay so its Monday morning and i’m at school by my locker with a killer headache. Its like a stabbing pain behind my eyes and its unbearable. The slightest noise is like a sledgehammer hammering into my skull.
I hate Mondays. I mean, who doesn’t. I heard someone approach me but I kept my eyes closed with my forehead against my locker. The person cleared their throat and I turned my head slowly and opened my eyes.
“Oh not to be a bitch or anything, but I have a killer headache and I rather not be bothered.” I told the person and closed my eyes again.
The person pushed me to face her and slapped me hard in my face. What the fuck.
“That’s for stealing my boyfriend. I told you to stay away from him but you refused.” Mikaela hissed.
“You didn’t have to put your slimy hands on my face though!“I screamed at her making the headache I had even worse.
“So you admit in stealing him from me then. I warned you before but you didn’t listen. Now i’m going to make your life a living hell.” She snapped.
“That’s so cliche though. ′I’m going to make your life a living hell.’” I sighed, mocking her.
“You watch your back Elena.” She sneered. And with that, she and I never really seemed to notice, friends, strutted off.
What can I say. Behind every dumb bitch, is a pack of dumber bitches, cheering that dumb ass bitch on so she can become an even dumber bitch.
That dumb ass bitch sure can slap though. I rubbed my cheek trying to soothe the stinging sensation. I bet its red right now. The bell rung and that reminded me of the headache I have, which now hurts even more.
I grabbed my stuff and slowly closed my locker. English here I come.
I walked in the classroom, held my face down, took a seat and put my head on the desk.
I heard someone took a seat beside me but I didn’t have the strength to look up.
“Elena what’s wrong?” Mason asked me his tone laced with seriousness and concern.
I looked up to see him looking at me worried.
“Killer headache and your ex slapped me in the face. So far, my day is not going so good.” And with that said I rested my head back on the desk.
“Well that explains why your cheek looks so red.” He said clearly amused by this.
I looked up at him and gave him a scowl. He cleared his throat and composed himself.
“Sorry. Why did she slap you?” He said with fake concern.
“Oh she said I stole you from her.” I stated blandly.
“I was never hers.” He said annoyed.
“But you called her your girlfriend.” I replied.
“Because she went around telling everyone that she was. I was pretty bored so I went along with it. She entertained me by..” He went on but I cut him off.
“Hey there buddy, I do not want to know the details.” I scoffed.
“Maguire and O’Brien, be quiet.” Mr Smith instructed.
I turned away from Mason but he continued to talk.
“So did you and Jake talk at all since Friday night?” He inquired.
I looked at him with a frown. Didn’t he hear what Mr Smith said.
“So is that a yes?” He questioned.
“Yes, now will you shut up. I don’t wanna get a detention.” I muttered.
“So what did he say?” He asked again ignoring what I said about being quiet.
“Can we talk about this later?” I whispered, annoyed.
I felt the pain in my head intensify by the second. I rubbed my temples to soothe it.
“Is he still upset with you or something. I mean he has no reason to be.” He continued.
I felt like my head was about to explode.
“Mason shut up.” I forced through my teeth.
“What?” He asked. Apparently he didn’t hear me.
"Shut the fuck up!” I screamed at him. The hammering in my head got even louder.
“Ms Maguire, did I hear correctly?” I heard Mr Smith questioned.
“Xayla, are you okay?” Mason whispered coming closer to me.
“I have this fucking killer headache and it won’t stop.” I screamed out once more.
I stood up and then froze at the sight I saw.
I saw myself being strapped to a bed with five men in white coat hovering around me, injecting a needle in my arm and putting this helmet thingy with wires coming out of it.
I squeezed my eyes shut and then opened them to see every eye of every single student in the classroom on me.
The next thing I see is the ground coming closer and then blackness.
What the fuck. Did I just pass out again. I heard voices around me and then a stern one giving orders.
“Mason carry her to the nurse’s office immediately.” Mr Smith ordered.
“Yes sir.” I felt a hand around my neck and one under my thigh, lifting me up off the ground.
I was aware of what was going on but I couldn’t open my eyes.
“Xayla please wake up.” I heard Mason whispering in my ear , worry laced in his words.
I can’t Mason. I really can’t. I’m trying but I can’t. I could feel his heart beating fast against my arm.
“Oh my what happened?” I heard a female voice I recognized to be the Nurse.
“She said she was having a headache but I continued to ask her questions and then she started to scream and then she just fainted. Is she okay? Will she be okay?” Mason rambled
“Let me have a look at her.” Nurse said calmly.
I felt Mason’s hands leave me and my back rested against something soft, bed like.
The Nurse opened my blouse a bit, well I believe its her. I then felt something cold and round on my chest. I assumed she was checking my heartbeat.
“Her heart rate seems fine but I don’t know why she fainted. It could be the headache that made her faint but i’m going to have to call the ambulance because she shouldn’t be knocked out so long. She also has a very high fever.” She explained.
I felt someone hold my hand and I know it was Mason.
“I’m not leaving you Xayla. I’ll be right here by your side.” He softly whispered and pressed his lips against my hand.
Why can’t I wake up.
A couple more minutes later that felt like hours to me. I felt someone move me unto something somewhat harder than a bed. I felt myself jerking around and heard a siren howling above. Where the hell am I.
“I’m here Xay. We’re in the ambulance on our way to the hospital.” I heard Mason say, squeezing my hand.
“Did you alert her parents?” I heard a man ask.
“The nurse at my school called her sister. She’ll be meeting us there.” Mason told him, rubbing his thumb on my hand in a circular motion.
I heard the van stop and voices saying some medical stuff I didn’t understand. I didn’t feel Mason’s hand in mine anymore and I started to worry.
I was in the bed that had the wheels on it. I can’t quite remember the name of it. Darn me for not watching enough of Grey’s Anatomy.
“Xayla!” I heard Mason shout.
“I’m sorry sir but you’ll have to wait outside.” I heard female voice say kindly to Mason.
I felt something prick my skin on my arm and then I felt something going into my nose. At least I could breathe better now.
Whatever they gave me made me feel so relaxed and all the pain I had been feeling, went away. I guess it was morphin.
I heard Kalina’s voice but it wasn’t so clear. I guess she was behind a door or something.
I heard a door open and I smelt her perfume. A strong scent of lilac.
“Xayla, please wake up.” She whispered, her voice trembling. I felt her hand on my cheek rubbing it softly.
I heard her began to softly cry.
“Please tell them i’m allowed to see her please. ” I heard Mason say pleadingly.
I felt Kalina leave my side and a door closed. I guess I was alone now.
“Xayla, whatever is happening to you, you can fight it. All you need to do is open your eyes. Its that simple. Open them. Please.” Mason pleaded squeezing my hand.
“Please open your eyes.” I could hear the pain clear in his voice.
I tried my best to squeezed his hand but it didn’t work.
I tried and tried. I only managed to move my pinky.
“Xayla, did you, did you just move your finger?” He asked sounding hopeful.
I tried my best to move it again but I doubt it was that much effective.
“I’m here. I’m right beside you. I’m not leaving. Not now. Not ever ” he whispered taking my hand to his lips.
