Chapter 16. Confessions
I heard the thoughts he had while he was in bed with me.
I saw the darkness in his eyes lessen but I want all of it to disappear. And I know just how to do it.
Laying down in my bed, I came up with a plan. If he decides to tell me everything about himself, I will do the same in return.
I can't go on alone. I need someone like Mason there to hold me when the world gets too heavy on my shoulders.
Does this mean that I like him in a way more than friend, i'm quite not sure as yet but I know he felt something more for me last night.
I sat up in bed and noticed that a piece of paper was there with Mason's handwriting.
'I'll tell you everything tomorrow before the dance.' - Mason.
Does this mean what I think it means.
I sorta expected it though after last night. We weren't the same as before. We became much closer after that night.
After I had shed my tears, he actually held me in his arms. He seemed uncomfortable for a while but he adjusted and I slowly saw his walls coming down.....and it was all for me.
He told me that he'll be here for me and he wasn't going anywhere.....
I asked him why and he said five words than I never thought were possible for him to say to me.
"Because I care about you " he had said.
Because of last night, because of the way he looked at me, I knew he wasn't the same Mason I met that very first day of school.
Having absolutely no time to waste, I took a shower and put on some sweats before calling Mason to come over.
I sat on the stool at the island in the kitchen, eating a bowl of fruit loops, waiting impatiently for him to come.
Kalina left early this morning for work. She's always busy these days. I can't believe she slept through my crying last night. I was definitely sure I had been crying pretty loudly.
Oh well. The minute I put spoonful of cereal in my mouth I heard the door bell ring.
Mason.
I opened the door still chewing and saw Mason standing there looking a bit nervous.
Okay that's an understatement.
I had put it in my contacts after I had bathe so now I was sporting green eyes.
My hair was still in a messy bun and I was sure my eyes looked as hollow as last night.
When I had finish chewing, I swallowed looking up at the now amused Mason. I guess me chewing was funny to him?
"Hi" I breathed.
"Hi" he sighed.
"Co-Come in" I stuttered now a tad nervous.
I led him to the couch and I sat with my legs folded facing him.
He looked as handsome as ever. He had on a blue shirt that matched his eyes perfectly and jeans with a pair of blue converse.
"Awwww poor Mason Is nervous." I said pouting trying to lighten the mood.
He giggled at that looking at me with a smile on his face.
"I'm sorry for crying like that last night. I knew I had put you in a very uncomfortable situation ." I apologized.
"No no don't be sorry. You have nothing to be sorry about." He reached out putting his hand on my leg.
I looked at his hand and he retrieved it quickly.
"Okay I know why you must think that it was uncomfortable for me. I have this hard exterior and I have a reason. That reason i'm willing to tell you " he said slowly looking down at the ground.
I knew what he was going to tell me but I listened anyways.
He stuttered, paused, fidgeted, the entire time telling me about his mother's death and how it had affected him.
Before he could finish I stopped him because I couldn't stand to see him in so much pain.
"I know everything." I whispered grabbing his hand in my mines.
"What? How do you know?" He questioned looking baffled.
I took a deep breath.
I took up the mirror I had placed on the coffee table and held it in my hands.
"Please don't freak out and leave" I whispered to him looking deeply in his eyes.
He looked quite take aback of how close our faces were. So he just nodded.
I then took out both contact lenses in front of him.
I looked up to see him staring at me wide eyed his body stiffen with shock.
"This is the real color of my eyes." I confessed pointing at them.
"What? You're joking right?" He asked , his eye brows furrowed with confusion and shock.
"No. It changed from green to this color on my 16th birthday. Why? Because, of my ability " I paused.
"I have this ability to go into people's minds, know what they're thinking, have thought, what they're feeling..everything. They have different names for people like us. Psychic, Mind Reader, Mentalist and so on. That's what I am." I explained watching his reaction and reading into whatever if he's feeling knowing if I should continue with what I was saying.
He gave a slight nod asking me to continue.
I took a deep breath kind of happy that he's allowing me to finish before saying anything.
"I can't really do all of that though with these specially made contacts. I have to touch the person to actually know what their thinking but without them, i'm free to do whatever." I continued.
"So does that mean you know what I'm thinking then." He questioned a doubtful look coming across his face.
"Yeah, you don't believe me" I told him.
"Anyone could've guessed that. Okay tell me what i'm thinking now." He challenged.
I sighed and looked into his eyes, I giggled at what I heard and he furrowed his eyebrows looking at me.
"You're thinking about sneaking liquor tonight at the dance and spiking the punch bowl." I blatantly said.
"Like are you really going to do that? That's so cliché!" I added.
His eyes widen at what I said and he stood up abruptly. I knew he wasn't going to leave so I didn't bother getting up myself.
"How the fuck did you do that!" He exclaimed looking at me with wide eyes.
"Psychic. Remember?" I sighed.
"Please sit back down " I added looking into his eyes pleadingly.
He cautiously sat down looking at me with a funny expression. Realization then hit him.
"So that's how you know about my mother." He replied blankly.
I nodded.
"What else do you know?" He said looking a bit edgy.
"I didn't look deeper. Last night was the only time I had the chance to look Into that head of yours, because the other times I had in my contacts" I said tapping my index finger on his forehead.
"I know you care about me and you want to be the one there to always protect me, also." I added looking away.
He didn't say anything after that. I looked back at him and he was staring at me, with....admiration.
Wait, what?
"I like your real color eyes better" he confessed looking deadpan in my eyes.
I blushed then.
I bit my bottom lip unsure about what I wanted to do.
I stopped thinking and just acted.
I hugged him.
"Thank you for not freaking out." I whispered closing my eyes inhaling his cologne.
"Elena?" He breathed.
I pulled away looking at him questionably.
"What's going on with you? It seems like there's something bothering you." A concerned look plastered along his face while he looked down at me.
I felt moisture in my eyes then and I quickly ordered the tears to stay away.
"Oh umm...there is something else that I wanna tell you." I looked up at him, my heart beating fast.
I took a deep breath before divulging into the hardcore mess I was in.
