Chapter 10. Friends?
I looked up to see that all the students had left the room already except one person.
I grabbed by bag and walked to the door not looking in his direction.
I was about to step out the door when I felt a hand pull me backwards making me nearly fall.
"What the hell!" I yelled at him.
"What? Its not my fault you're so clumsy." Mason said coldly.
"What do you want Mason?" I commanded.
"Oh right....umm." He seemed pretty nervous and I must say, Its a gorgeous sight. He scratched the back of his head looking down at his feet.
"Spill it dickhead." I instructed.
"I'm sorry." he mumbled.
"What I cant hear you." I spat.
"I said I'm sorry, are you deaf now?" he exclaimed.
A smile crept up on my face and I cant feel any more but pleased at this very moment Who knew Mason knew words such as 'sorry.'
"Wow, who knew you could be sorry and a jerk at the same time." I went on.
"What are you sorry for though?" I added.
"Do I have to say it?" he whined.
Mason actually whined. He's so adorable when he's vulnerable.
"Yes Mason. You do have to say it." I scolded.
He took a deep breath and looked to the ceiling before returning his gaze to me.
"I'm sorry for being a jerk to you." he sighed.
"And?" I questioned.
"And what?" he looked at me baffled.
"'I'm sorry for calling you Tiny Tot behind your back.'" I mimicked him.
He looked at me with a straight face.
"I do not sound like that." He retorted.
"Wait, how do you know I call you that?" He questioned.
"Jake" We both said at the same time.
"Of course." he added.
"So can we be friends?" I hoped.
"Don't push it Maguire." he threatened using my last name.
"What? A girl can hope, can she?" I pointed out. I was more than hoping to be friends with him. I wanted to help him get rid of that darkness he has within his soul. I really don't want him to end up like Sab......
I wont even say it.
"Fine. You can be my friend but don't gaze into my eyes the way you do. Its creepy" he sighed.
"What do you mean by that?" i questioned him, a tad offended.
"You think I cant see it in your eyes? Its like you're trying to look deep within my soul. Your eyes are so big it makes it even creepier." he snapped.
My face fell instantly. I hate it when people tease me about my eyes.
He seemed to realize what he had just said and he furrowed his eye brows looking down at me.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean the last part about your eyes." he quietly said.
I didn't respond to him for a while.
"Are we done here?" I said eventually.
"uh yeah, i guess." he responded sounding unsure.
I began to turn around but he grabbed my hand.
'Way to go Mason. You made her wanna cry' I heard him thought.
I pulled my hand away from his and looked up in his eyes questionably.
"Are we cool?" he asked hesitantly.
"Yeah." I sighed.
I left Mason and evacuated the room.
I was so baffled it wasn't even funny.
Mason and I are now friends. What the fudgecake?
Am I happy about this, heck yeah. Now I get the chance to slowly build his trust for me and eventually he'll spill his past and his secrets to me and I can help him heal and everyone will live happily ever after.
I walked outside to see a guy by my car. The more I got closer, the more a smile slowly crept its way up my face.
"You took forever in there. I thought Mason ate you for lunch." Jake complained.
"You knew Mason was in there talking to me?"I questioned.
"Psssssh yeah, I was the one who persuaded him to apologize to you. You see...he's not really a jerk. He's just pretty guarded. Hardly lets people in." he explained.
"Oh I see." I sighed.
"So, can you give me a ride home? My car's at the shop." he looked at me scratching the back of his head.
"I'm not being rude or anything but why don't you ask Mason?" I questioned looking up at him.
"I rather not be in the car with Mason and Mikaela. Besides, it'll be more fun getting a ride from you knowing I'll get the chance to talk to you more." he beamed.
I smiled at him.
"Okay get in." I responded.
He got in and gave me his address and we were on our way.
"So tell me something I don't know about you." Jake inquired.
"Well, I'm from Florida." I said the most basic thing about me.
"What really? I had no idea. I just thought you transferred from another school within this state." he gasped. Pretending he didn't know already.
"Nope. Tell me something that isn't true about you that people say is." I challenged.
"I'm not a player." he responded.
"I know." i replied looking at him before turning my attention back to the road.
"How?" he asked me.
"I just know." I replied not knowing what to else to say.
"Thanks Ellie." he sighed.
"For what?" I asked him.
"For not judging me." Jake said smiling showing his dimples.
"No problem." I responded.
"So you excited about the dance coming up?" He asked, grinning. I swear, his bubbly personality is contagious.
"Heck yeah. Who doesn't love Halloween!" I squealed.
He giggled in response.
"So Elena." He dragged. "What made you decide to move to the city?"
I thought about my answer for a while.
Oh Jake, well I was sorta abducted by these scientists who studied me because I have the ability to read people's minds and I have purple eyes.
Yeah, I can't say that.
"My sister got a job offer here so I had to come." I lied smoothly.
"So what about your parents?" He inquired, looking at me keenly.
"Oh umm, they're...." I paused to choose my words carefully. My parents were a touchy subject for me.
"They're not around." I finished, keeping my gaze on the road.
"What do you mean they're not around?" Jake asked again. He is so inquisitive.
"They got eaten by zombies." I sighed.
"Wait what?" He exclaimed. "Zombies. Really Elena?" He added in monotone voice.
I giggled a bit. "Pssh yeah. Don't you watch Walking Dead?"
"Yeah I love that show!" He grinned.
"What other shows you like?" I asked, trying to change the subject.
"Ummm, Supernatural and The Originals." He gleamed.
"Oh so you like everything that has to do with supernatural powers." I said, impressed.
"Yeah they fascinate me." He smiled.
"Oh right here. This is my stop!" He suddenly shouted which caused me to press my brakes too quickly. Jake almost crashed into the windscreen because he refused to wear his seatbelt.
"Sorry." I apologized.
"Yeah its cool." He smiled.
I looked at his house and it wasn't what I had expected. It was a wide two story house that had a huge garden at the front.
"Nice house." I admired.
"Yeah. My mom would love you for saying that." He joked.
"Bye Elena. Thanks for the ride." He smiled.
"Yeah sure." I replied.
With that, he got out the car and waved goodbye once more.
Laters Jake.
