Chapter 31

Enjeru

“Good Micah now try landing.”

“Whaaa.”

He comes crashing to the ground wings and all and I can’t help but laugh.

“That’s not funny this is hard.”

“No, it really isn't watch Angelique.”

Angelique flies up doing a flip in the air before landing softly on her feet.

“See it’s not that hard.”

“If it’s so easy you try.”

“I can’t,” I reply bitterly.

“Why not?”

“I don’t have wings. They were cut off by some very nasty Angel’s.”

“Enjeru...but at the cemetery...”

"Those weren't true wings they were made from light. Mine are gone."

"I'm sorry I didn't know..."

“It’s fine. That’s why I made my enchanted skateboard I can fly while riding that when it's in hoverboard form so it all good.”

He looks so distraught, but I brush off every attempt he tries to make at comforting me. I know I’ll never fly again with my own wings, but I’m just glad one of us can. He gets up attempting the landing again and this time at least his feet touched the ground before he goes head first.

“Come on Micah you can do this. Just relax you’re over thinking this way to much.”

He nods closing his eyes. His chest rises and falls as he takes deep breaths. When he opens his eyes there’s a light that’s different in his eyes. He runs forward taking off as we taught him then he’s in the air. He’s doing all manors of tricks then he comes towards me. I start to stand back, but something makes me stop. I remain rooted to the spot my eyes burning into his. He lands without so much as a stumble.

“Took you long enough.” I joke.

He smiles wrapping his arms around my waist I hug him back.

“I kinda miss the white hair. It looked good on you.” He says twirling one of my dark curls around his finger.

“White is only for Angel’s something I’m not. Black suits me much better.”

“Hmm.” He hums.

He pulls me in tighter to him then suddenly my feet are off the ground.

“MICAH!!!!” I sherik as my grip tightens around his neck.

“Just hold on. I’m going to teach you how to fly again.”

“Micah I don’t have wings, and my board is gone if I fall I’m going. . .”

“I’m not going to drop you. Just trust me.”

He says it with so much assurance that I shut up. I peek down and everything looks amazing from this high. The flowers all blend into colleges of colors bursting from the green mass that are the ground. Angelique waves, and I wave back enjoying this flight. It ends all to soon as we land carefully on the ground. Micah is grinning looking proud, and I just roll my eyes.

“Thank you. I guess I forgot what it was like to have wings.”

“Anytime babe anytime.”

“Well since you’ve mastered that mister it’s time spar.”

He groans knowing he’s about to get his ass kicked. I chuckle enjoying his reaction. He and Angelique begin walking off, but I stop. I see a movement in the corner of my eye. I turn to the Sakura tree and I feel my heart stop. There’s my mom smiling gently at me. She looks like a wisp of smoke. Like at any moment she could be blown away.

“Mom. . .”

She nods smiling wider. I start towards her, but she begins to fade.

“Mom wait.”

She continues to smile, and by the time I get to the tree she’s gone. All that remains is a single blossom sitting neatly where she stood. It appears to have just bloomed even though the tree lost its blossoms weeks ago. I pick it up gently cupping it in my hand.

“So this is your final answer. I think I understand.”

“Hey Enjeru come on!!!” Angelique yells.

I turn closing my hand around the blossom.

“On my way!!!”

They continue out of the garden area. I give the tree one last glance before running to the exit. When I turn to leave I swear I see my mother waving, and smiling. But as soon as I blink there’s nothing.
