Please Come Back Honey! Chapter 4

Chapter 4

When Susanna heard that Emma wanted to focus on her career, her eyes brightened with excitement. “Our company is offering an opportunity to study scriptwriting abroad, so just let me know if you want to focus on this line of work. I can help you ask President Zurich about it.” Emma used to be a drama and film major back in university. Even though Emma had adapted to her role as a full-time housewife immediately after her graduation, Susanna could not bear to watch Emma's talents being buried just like that. So, she offered Emma the chance to work as a part-time scriptwriter. No one, including Trevor, knew about this matter. The public was not aware of Emma's involvement since she used a pseudonym—Winter. “Are you serious?” Emma was shocked to hear what her good friend had suggested. “Of course.”

Susanna's tone was firm. “President Zurich has always admired your talent. Even though you're just a part-time scriptwriter, President Zurich would definitely be willing to sponsor you for personal development courses as long as you're willing to officially join our company as a full-time scriptwriter.” Susanna was working in Alpha Productions, which was a company started up by the retired superstar, Wesley Zurich and his good friend. Their company had the most famous screenwriting, production and celebrity teams under them. All the dramas and movies they released in the past few years were huge hits in the market. “Sure. I'll sign it." Hesitation did not linger on Emma one bit. Getting a divorce and leaving the country sounded like her best way forward at that moment. Once she was out of the country, she would no longer have to face anything that happened in Jonestown. Well, at least her heart would no longer ache constantly. Trevor was interstate for about three days this time while Emma waited patiently for his return. During one of those days, Susanna brought Emma over to sign an agreement with Alpha Productions.

After that, Emma paid a visit to the Bateson Residence as she figured that Christopher should have a heads-up about the divorce. After all, he was the only person in the family who sincerely cared about her. About half an hour later, a teary-eyed Emma walked out of Christopher's study and coincidentally bumped into Trevor, who had just returned from his trip. He was dressed in a gray suit, which accentuated his slender limbs with a cold but elegant aura around him. The tense muscles around his eyebrows held the maturity of a thirty-year-old man while the look in his eyes clearly radiated the quality of a person with influence and power. At that moment, she realized how she had once fallen for this attractive outer shell—exclusive to the public—before turning her gaze away. As usual, Trevor's eyes only lingered on her face for about a second before turning elsewhere. “I'm sorry I'm late, Grandpa,” he said to Christopher.

Christopher had asked to meet Trevor for some family matters, but he did not expect Emma to ask for a meetup until moments before this. More so, he did not expect the news of their divorce. The old man could not bring himself to wear a smile when he thought of how insistent Emma was about the divorce. “You shouldn't be apologizing to me,” the old man grumbled. Then, he waved his arm and stormed off while leaving Trevor and Emma behind. Trevor frowned and gazed at her as if she did something wrong. He looks so annoyed with me. He probably thinks I talked bad about him in front of Old Mr. Christopher again, she thought. So, she tugged her lips into a smirk as she met his gaze. “Don't worry. Whatever your grandfather and I talked about was all for your own good.” With that, Emma turned and left after finishing her sentence. Earlier, she had told Christopher that she wanted a divorce and that Christopher should support Trevor's relationship with his love interest. Clearly, she did not want to hold him back by staying in the loveless marriage.

I'm doing all this for his well-being, right? Trevor's face darkened when he heard her tone; he could tell that there was some spite in her voice and expression. Throughout the three years that they had been together, she had always been a gentle, polite and kind figure. It was, therefore, understandable for him to feel particularly annoyed when she spoke in such a sharp and offensive tone. He pulled on his tie to loosen it before he swallowed his rage and walked out to look for his grandpa. About ten minutes later, Christopher found Emma in the kitchen and he stopped her with a grim look on his face.
