Please Come Back, Honey!

Please Come Back Honey! Chapter 18

Chapter 18

On the other end of the call, Zachary spread his lips into a sweet smile. “Oh, that's perfect! Which girl is this? I bet your taste in women is great, Old Mr. Christopher. I'll meet any girl you recommend to me.” Trevor's expression turned grimmer than before. He practically wanted to step on Zachary's face and crush his friend's skull. “Well, what do you think of Emma?” Christopher asked. Bang! A loud noise came from the other end of the line, followed by Zachary's loud wail. “F*ck! That burned!” After moments of chaos, Zachary's voice came from the other end of the call. “Sorry, Old Mr. Christopher. I spilled some coffee earlier. I didn’t catch what you said. Can you repeat yourself?” Christopher was no longer as patient as before. “I said I want to introduce you to Emma,” he uttered in a flat tone. “Uh... Old Mr. Christopher. I'm afraid I just got a new girlfriend, so I don't think it'd be nice to cheat on her,” Zachary replied. Christopher was speechless for a moment. Didn't he just happily say that he would meet any girl I introduced to him? “I have other matters to handle, Old Mr. Christopher. I'll talk to you another day. I'll visit you soon, okay?” Zachary frantically ended the call after that, prompting Christopher to throw his phone aside with a grumpy look on his face. Trevor, on the other hand, seemed a little more pleased. “You don't have to worry about her. She might already have a boyfriend,” Trevor muttered after he gracefully ate a spoonful of his meal. “Are you serious?” Christopher asked curiously. Trevor didn’t seem too happy as he explained himself. "Yeah. It's a guy who just turned 20.” Trevor figured that he would tell Christopher about this since the latter wasn't a fan of relationships where the man was younger than the girl. Trevor was certain that Christopher would urge Emma to stay away from someone so young. Much to Trevor's surprise, however, Christopher began to chuckle happily. “A young man’s perfect! He'd be youthful, energetic, and fun to be with. That's perfect for someone gentle and soft like Emma.” Trevor was at a loss for words. After letting out a sigh, Christopher continued, “As I said, someone as nice as Emma would definitely have other men pursuing her. Some guys might treat her like trash, but I'm sure there are people out there who would treat her like gold.” The old man was clearly targeting Trevor with his words. All of a sudden, Trevor no longer felt like eating the delicious meal in front of him. He forced a few more mouthfuls of food into his belly before he left the Bateson Residence. While Trevor was on the way back, he received a call from Crystal. She sounded rather sorry for herself as she spoke to him on the phone. “Aren't you in the office, Trevor?” “No,” he replied flatly. “I made some stew for you this morning, and I brought it to surprise you in the office. I hadn't expected you to be out,” she mumbled in a whiny tone. Crystal started to enjoy household chores like cooking and baking after she stopped taking as many acting jobs as before. Every now and then, she would bake some teatime treats for Trevor. Sometimes, she would also prepare lunch for him. This was something that Emma used to do every day in the past. Crystal had even learned how to make coffee as Emma used to make a cup of coffee for Trevor every morning. After being fed by Emma for the past few years, Trevor had developed high expectations for food and drinks. He sometimes felt dissatisfied by the coffee he got in cafés because he felt like Emma's was better. When Trevor heard that Crystal had prepared stew for him, he somehow recalled a memory of his time spent with Emma. This made him feel more frustrated than ever. “Grandpa told me to go over for lunch, so I left at the very last minute,” he explained to Crystal in an impatient tone. However, Crystal didn't seem to notice the impatience in his voice as she continued to question him. “Why would Grandpa ask you over to lunch out of nowhere?” “I'm driving now. Bye,” Trevor uttered before ending the call. He had intended to go back to the office initially, but when he pictured Crystal waiting for him in his room, he decided to turn the steering in the direction of Zachary's office instead.
